Marcus imo, your method is by far the best on this list, I have tried them all over the years, but The Circle of Speed is the easiest and most consistent way to hit it flush every time, and the extra distance is just fantastic!
Thank you so much, you've made golf fun for me again.

Speaking of distance with what Marcus Edblad teaches. One thing he said has helped my swing maybe more than any single thought. To make the trail hand overtake the lead hand. For years I have had trouble hitting through the ball. Seems like such a simple thing but for me it was troublesome. Marcus basically remade my golf swing. At 72 i have regained all the power I need (at least from the senior tees I now play from). Marcus Edblad is a great instructor.

      I agree 100%.
I've tried all these swing method and Marcus' is by far the best, for me.
Initially, my biggest problem was just trusting that the ball wouldn't go flying straight into the trees on the right.
The release is crucial for this, but it's so easy to learn, and I still can't believe the extra distance I'm getting.

What you need to do is use the swing that doesn’t hurt your body. My left knee is screwed so i use the Marcus Edblad method and try to stay on my trail leg, still single figures at 63.

@GolfTestDummy You left out Shawn Clement's 10, which would move his method from second equal lowest score of 67... to TOP score of 77 ! Thanks for your channel and hope you finally sorted your pinched nerve.

Over the past five years, I think I have dabbled in all of these methods too, as well as some others. The one that I am sticking with now is Marcus Edblad. I get the purest strikes with his methods. Also, I like having just one main swing thought, which is to start the hands going down first. It does produce a nice draw, with great distance, more often than other methods for me. I really wanted to like Jim V's system, because it is so logical and Jim is so good at explaining and demonstrating it. I just felt like I could not consistently get the distance I want from this swing. Thanks for this video, Chris!

As a long time subscriber, I just want to say how much I enjoyed this video.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
I have also tried every swing method on here, over the past 10 years or so, and for me the Marcus Edblad swing is by far the best.
It's the easiest to learn imo, and from the first couple of shots at the range, that feeling of absolutely flushing it every time, is just so addictive.
The one thing you have to overcome is just trusting you won't hit the ball 45 degrees into the trees.🤣
For distance, consistency and ease, it's way superior to the others, in my humble opinion.
Anyway, thanks for a great channel, I have really enjoyed sharing your journey with you.

Thanks for the synopsis. I have a personal experience to add. I have been a Moe Norman guy for better part of 20 years. It was the first and only way I have played golf. I was pretty successful getting down to a 7 handicap. However In last couple of seasons I have taken up Venetos swing and am getting incredible results. The impact off the club face is amazing. Admittedly it takes a learning curve to remain still but if you commit to it and pursue it as Jim says it will not let you down. And if you do hit a bad shot you know exactly why. You did not stay still enough. I am 58 years old this year and consistently shoot in the 70s. Hoping to break par this season. Just my take!!

GTD, I admire your objectivity - an asset that most people do not recognize or appreciate these days...! I personally have tried most methods and found that I could play pretty well using any of them. I do believe that based on the persons experience, body type, tendencies, and preference of seeing a shot shape, one of these methods will fit a golfers profile better than others. The key is to choose the one that best fits you and then stay with it. After that you can reinforce that method through repetition and focus on the art of maximizing your particular strengths to play "your" best golf. For instance, work on your bag gapping, choose clubs that fit your game not your ego, and work on the mental side of scoring (like Dr. Izzy) - thx! for what you do!

I know you mentioned trying to learn straight from moe vs someone like Kirk Junge or Todd Graves BUT I recently discovered Kirk after trying JVGA, RSS, and Stack and Tilt and a little bit of Moe Norman and after not having a huge amount of success with any of them have been just trying to work on little tweaks in my natural swing to make it better. I realized that I am swinging pretty close to single plane and just discovered Kirk and his "setup 4 impact" method and it's SO SIMPLE and easy to incorporate! I've only been doing it for about a week and a half but already seeing much better impact position and ball striking. I didn't have to overhaul my entire swing and feels much more natural then trying to swing like Moe. Super excited to see where it takes me the next few months of really working his drills.
All that to say if you like the Moe Norman swing I think that you might like the Kirk Junge method even better if you haven't tried it already. Would love to hear your thoughts on that!
Loved the video, hope you heal up soon and can get back to swinging a club.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  8 месяцев назад

Thanks for all that great info, and I love hearing about that success. Setting up for impact as a simple concept in itself is just smart, so to see Kirk Junge incorporating that simple idea in with some Moe Norman stuff just makes sense. Golf instruction has just gotten so far out of control that it's almost insanity.

Interestingly, I did, and posted here, on the Single Plane when you were doing that. I developed a slice and over the top move. (Certainly not Moe Norman) but found Marcus Edblad. Did that and now have kind of combined parts of both. Moe for irons and Marcus for driver. Many of the others cause me back pain. I saw where someone talks about Joe Dante 4 Magic Moves. That worked great for me if I only wanted to play golf once a month and recuperate the other 3 weeks. Any lateral hip shift hurts my back. The Eureka Golf Swing by Steve Johnson is also pretty good. Hope you get well soon.

And then in one of your replies you said something that seems out of the blue::
"Truth is, what I've been finding lately lines up much more with Square to Square by Sam Goulden.

      @GolfTestDummy  8 месяцев назад +2

Thanks a bunch, and I'll try and answer as best I can. I've watched Sam Goulden off and on for a few years now, but I never formally reviewed his approach. After the Golftec series, trying to make it my own and simplify, I distilled my swing down to just a few "fundamentals", and I'm getting consistent, powerful, great shots. Or, at least I was before this mess I'm now with the pain. Those fundamentals line up a lot with Sam's S2S teachings, just by coincidence. Clubface awareness and always trying to keep the face looking at the ball, smaller swings, staying connected, setting up for impact, etc.

This is a brilliant honest review...and mirrors what I saw....I was shaking my head watching the golf Tec stuff.... wondering what you were doing.....I experienced the same thing with Zen...good and bad days relying on timing....
The only part I would disagree on would be that I think all the swings that make you tilt and turn your spine are more dangerous to your body....I killed my back with stack n Tilt....which was a shame as I hit it great...
I'm now stuck on RSS.... Easy on the body and simple...I've been lucky all the swings I've tried I've had proper instruction...Flowmotion Zen ...stack n tilt ... conventional and RSS...
Great review... really enjoyed this ....for me systems seem to work better ...I like the constraints of set up like this ..move like this...hit it like that....if it goes wrong....rinse and repeat ...no doubts

Hope you get well soon, this is most important!
I’ve followed you for a long time as my quest for golf improvement and consistency has taken a similar route to yours in that I’ve tried most of the methods you’ve evaluated.
Currently I’m into the Paul Wilson method and am finding some good results! I’m interested to know if you’ve had a look at him? By “turning the arms off” and swinging with your lower body, it is gentle on the back and seems to help get a better sequence of swing movement. It’s promising and my handicap is coming down. (It’s been a while!)
So maybe this is it for me… we’ll see!
Tinkering to improve seems to be my thing. Even though my friends think I’m nuts, to me it’s insane just doing the same thing each week hoping for improvement!
Thanks for doing what you do, I hope you’re getting paid well out of it, as it must be time consuming, but know that it is encouraging for many!❤

I have always tried different swings due to my Must have ten finger grip( damaged nerve in L hand thumb and index finger) and my back condition.
I've tried all those on the list.
My natural swing is good, I'm a long hitter, for my age(64), can hit my 6i 175+ m. ( infact, I found a Cobra XL 5i on the course, broken shaft. took it home got a good shaft on it and Today it got me 208m. it's a game improvement so it's further than my Z785 5i=190+)
My swings biggest issue is not always getting my hands at the ball before or equal to by chest turning towards the flag. that's my back.
Hands first, straight/draw. chest first, push/fade.
I found the closest to mine and the best to repeat with out forcing the swing in general is Marcus, as i have to stand more upright.
Tried Moe but just end up slapping it. first 5 swing are magical, long and straight, but again, back is the culprit, can't lean into the ball. feel like I'm fishing for it and then I shank.
tried Jim, again great swing . but I had trouble keeping still Back swing was to stiff in the end. Also had problems with What was a 45 angle.
Like wisdom too use his before my issues.

Very telling, the method to become elite is the same method that has so many obstacles. I played my best golf being taught by one of the very few “square to square” teachers, and have had my most recent success focusing only on teachers that “speak” to me and my mind set. There are more than a few ways to get to a goal, find something that works for you and stick with it.

have you treid DDPYoga for yor pinched nerve, which judging by your movement is in your lower back. I had a severely pinched sciatic nerve and needed a walking stick to get out of a chair and to move around, and started to do the DDPYoga Rebuild Chair to Standing program and within 3 weeks the nerve had been completely released. I've been doing DDPYoga now for 10 months and haven't had any further issues with my sciatic nerve. In fact at the age of 73 my flexibility now is better than when I was 40. Just letting you knopw there is a means to get past this.

I tried Gary Edwins swing and had lesson - 5/10. I was doing what they asked, but still the contact wasn't great and the coaches become confusing.
Moe Norman - 6/10 I think you can get by on this swing, but it feel awkward.
Stack and Tilt - 6.5. Again you can get by on this method. I had some great European coaching. But there are limitations on stack and tilt. Couldn't get the compression and contact solid each time.

I have left the rabbit hole of trying new swing styles. I build my swing up from impact and brushing grass in front of ball, and from there I add a backswing short enough to maintain that skill and long enough to give me standard lengths with my shots to play normal club tees.

I tried Single Plane but it just wasn’t right for me and Marcus’ swing took a LOT of work and I never turned the corner with it. OTTFI = Over the Top from the Inside - being pushed by My Swing Evolution - big trouble for me.

Body driven vs arm driven swing? Arms for me.
Left, center, right side pivot?? Left for me - Trevino says stay left against a wall...
Pushing (Marcus) vs pushing (Rotary Golf)
This OTT swing using right side seems powerful but when Christo show vids of his students they are WAY outta posture at impact. Tendency is gonna be to stand up and fall back for me.

Every method I've tried so far, and likely most methods that I would try in the future, can bring a relative level of success because I have a good feel and understanding of how the club and ball need to interact at impact.

So, I guess the question is, what is next for you and your platform? I really enjoyed watching your journey and had seen many if not all of the systems you presented. Kind of an Edblad acolyte myself. Have you checked out Craig Hanson WorldClassGolf? Not so much a system as he points out some real nuance stuff. Erndog Golf is doing something similar to you but more only using a teaching coach, mostly conventional. Best of luck on that pinched nerve. No bueno for sure!

Thanks a bunch. I've seen some things from both of those channels. I'm not sure what's next, but for the immediate future, I think my goal is to simply be able to swing a club again, haha.
