I like this very much. Everything you say here is valuable and makes such obvious sense (now that you point it out!). There is much too much noise, nonsense and irrelevance in golf instruction and it is great to hear the results of all your efforts to cut through it all for us and to summarise your conclusions in such a clear manner. 👍👍👍
Chad…that was the best all round total truth that us average golfers should hear on a daily bases It doesn’t matter what age you are but the average golfer with some kind of drive always wants to get better so the journey continues Your 5 step program to understanding just who and where we are … will help us along our way Next year you may want to add a step 6 That is…if you don’t put in the time the journey is long and the rewards are few Looking forward to another 5 years GTD
Really outstanding Chad. Especially not comparing yourself to other golfers, whether they are professionals or elite amateurs or your friends. Teddy Roosevelt once said that “Comparison is the thief of joy.” He must have been a golfer, or at least he should’ve been.
Lol, brilliant. That kind of ties into Buddha, who basically said expectations lead to disappointment, and if you can eliminate them, you can find true happiness.
The first comment is huge. not necessarily that people compare THEMSELVES to the tour swing but that virtually all the education online and most instructors are going to say "every pro gets in this position." I get it but also you are 100% correct that most of us will never see those positions or if we do we cannot functionally produce a proper swing from them. I instead have learned to focus on how my own body can make good contact in a good IMPACT position because that is something we all can actually acheive. Great vid man!
100%. The pros are not just pros because they "swing real gooder". They're pros because they have the total package and they are special. Tons of awesome golfers will never make the tour.
After thinking about this for a while it occurred to me that despite all of the golf instructions available there is very little emphasis on developing 'skill' as opposed to 'technique' or 'biomechanics'. I believe the first person I came across on youtube who talked about it well was Padraig Harrington (in particular concerning clubface control and various ways to do it) then that led me to Mike Malaska and eventually to Marcus Edberg (who talk at length about it). I believe that is something lacking in my game (although I hope to improve - it will take some time - as Marcus says!). Apologies if this is something you have discussed previously. I am new to your channel - arrived by algorithm via Marcus I guess!
No, you're absolutely in line with my thinking. The golf swing CAN be simple, in my opinion. Once you get a basic motion that's fairly natural for you, it should stop being an exercise in tweaking mechanics to find some text book swing, and become more about developing skill with your motion.
Excellent advice, Chad. Congrats on the 5 year anniversary. Still wishing you and your family good vibes for your wife. Love the new logo colors. I've said it before, if you're going to emulate any tour pro, make it a female tour pro. They more closely resemble our swing speed and power. Even though the ladies tour is head and shouldes above us, watching them can give us some idea of how good we can be hitting about as far as they do. I'm currently a 3 handicapper and I dropped from a 7 to a 3 simply by focusing on improving three things: approach shots, short game, and course management. This is coming from a guy whose driver is his nemesis, and I only carry it about 255. Cheers.
255 carry is great, honestly. Considering the average for male amateurs is about 215 to 220. Totally agree about the LPGA as well. Here's the crap part of RUclips.... The short game, putting, and strategy are video subjects that get WAY less views than driver, distance, and hero shots. The things that will help most golfers, don't get watched.
@@GolfTestDummy And some us are fighting Father Time more than others, lol! I definitely can't swing like a pro safely...and many of them shouldn't swing that way. Just look at all those pros that have back as well as other physical issues.
Just curious, as you had Golftec lessons about the same time i did. They base everything on a pro model. Did it not help you? It did me, especially the closer i got to those positions. Great video, definitely will use the info you provided.
These were very good tips!👍 Video and Trackman are awesome tools, but same time they can bee very depressing. It's not easy to get numbers and look like tour pros 😅
Haha, you're right. And here's something that launch monitors have taught us, that MAY be the best thing about them. They include ZERO data about how you looked or where your elbow was or how your feet were. It ONLY shows what the club and ball did. Face, path, descent angle, spin, launch angle, etc.
"Good golf doesn't have to be pretty." Absolutely. I tell my playing partners all the time, "We don't have to grade them, we just have to add them up. This is a math class, not an art class."
Track everything. Fairways, GIR, #putts (misses, break or speed or both) and my favorite category stupid shots. Recommend Shot Scope will do the tracking and give you yardage and tells you yardage average for all clubs. Plus no subscription.
Wise words my friend. 👍
❤️ Thanks big dog.

I can't believe it's been that long, haha. I'll be around until I get sick of the RUclips game or I feel like I'm doing nothing.

Congrats to the 5 years!
And of course to a very enjoyable YT channel 🙂
Regards from Sweden 🇸🇪
Thanks so much! Time has flown by.
You’re right smarter not harder!
That might even be a better thought than mine! Thanks.
Quality advice my friend
And a quality comment. Thanks, Robert!
Congratulations Chad.
Great, great, great stuff Chad! I really need to heed the 5 tips in your video more.
We all do, and I need to take my own advice more often. It takes a constant diligence.
Amen Amen Amen to all!

How can i keep the grip ahead of the club head at impact ?

@@GolfTestDummy agree 💯%
Great Video..... happy 5th anniversary
Many thanks! Maybe I'll be lucky enough to put up 5 more.
Great advice for us hackers Chad.
Most of us are hackers, haha. But also, a good many of us are in denial about it.
@@GolfTestDummy And some us are fighting Father Time more than others, lol! I definitely can't swing like a pro safely...and many of them shouldn't swing that way. Just look at all those pros that have back as well as other physical issues.
Number three is killer.
I think so, too.

I think it can help, yes. It's different for everyone, but most people will spends years chasing positions that never really help.
Totally agree with that. It really showed some mistakes I was making that was making it hard to square it up, so it helped me a lot.

Absolutely. We need to know REALITY.
