Love this video. It is spoken with so much truth for your viewers. The addiction is a serious issue that needs to be addressed with buying luxury goods. The chase is thrilling and wanting to obtain the next handbag becomes endless. How much is enough? I totally get it as I initially had two bags and now over 10 and still wanting more. This is when I need to honestly ask myself what is it about this that I really love, and trying to replace that feeling with another hobby.
Hey there blackchickadee1 thank you so much for your honesty and sharing something so personal. It's scary isn't it? Especially when you could use that money a thousand other ways and you have loved ones who would benefit from it too. Since i filmed this video a year has passed and i'm now at the 10 bag stage too - on my good days i tell myself that's it! On my bag days i keep thinking of 1 or 2 extra bags to add...I'm lucky that it's not affecting my 'financial responsibilities' in life but there's something wrong when you never know if you're going to stop. I think one part that helps is just to slow down - maybe add 1 bag every 2 years (instead of 3 or 4 in the same time) as it's hard to just stop 'cold turkey'. Very informative video, I love it when someone cares to explain things in detail. I would somewhat disagree on the part of bags being an investment. Yes, you can break even or make a little money out of it, more if you wait longer (as you said). But, those are the operative words though, wait longer. The only reason certain bag styles and brands retain their value is because of false inflation. Luxury brands are notorious with their annual price increase, not because the cost of material and labor increased, but mainly to maintain the illusion of unattainability thus keeping exclusivity and status. Discouraging those people who HAVE TO SAVE in buying their products. Add to that limiting production of certain items (birkins and double flaps) plays in the basic economic principle of supply and demand, giving them more license to increase their prices, people want what they cannot have after all. So, when a poor schmuck from the lower 99% sees their 7-10 yrs old holy grail bag in the 2nd hand market place for ONLY $2-3k they are being led to believe (and willing to believe) that they are saving an exorbitant amount of money because that bag now retails for $6-7k. And the seller is led/willing to believe as well that they made a great investment because they were able to sell their overpriced bag with ONLY $700-900 loss from what they originally paid for. The only reason a luxury bag is a good investment is cost per wear, because most of these brands impeccably constructs their product from only the best and sturdiest materials, and could last a lifetime or two if properly cared for. Anybody who thinks otherwise is only deluding themselves.
Hi Ruth thank you for your time in checking out my long video and your feedback - you are definitely correct! I totally forgot to mention that factor, the false inflation. It is definitely a major factor in the success of the chanel classic items on the second hand market, although i feel that birkin's success is more due to limited stock. The saddest part is that many companies are cutting costs while they raise the prices - i was going to mention it in my chanel video but the deteriorating quality is pretty clear. And yet the prices continue to rise. I will be giving you a shoutout in my Chanel video :) Thanks heaps!

Yes with the homeowners insurance for bags. I do not have any really expensive bags but you can add these to your homeowners along with your jewelry, Rolexes!etc...

It sounds like you have a beautiful bag collection and i'm glad to know you're looking into the world of possibilities that preloved offers :) Like you i would also love to add the Hermes Kelly to my collection but yes you're right that this is one of the few bag models which actually sells with a premium second-hand! Simply because it's really difficult to walk into Hermes and buy one on the spot. I was 'lucky' with my Birkin in that i found a lady in a desperate financial situation who needed to sell urgently but these cases are rare - it took me about 2 years before i stumbled across her. I've made bag collector friends on IG who grabbed their Birkin for a good price preloved while they were in France and Japan from local consignments - both countries which have a large number of preloved Hermes stock. Plus they got the tax refund. However if your goal is to grab the Kelly for as low price as possible, buying it new from Paris tax back is one of your best options! Would you be travelling to France anytime soon? I'm hesitant to recommend a particular reseller or website to you because in recent years i've come across a number of scammers who give you genuine everything (box, dust bag, receipt, lock etc) BUT they swap the real bag with a well made dupe. I'll also be in Paris later this year as well (October) :) In regards to fashion outlets in Italy, i personally haven't tried them but i'm pretty certain Milan is your best bet as the fashion capital. Would you like me to pass on your email to my friend who lives there and can show you around? In regards to Paris, i've done some research and will plan to shop at Printemps when i visit. If what i've read online is true, they offer all new members (it's free to join) 10% off unlimited number of purchases as long as your first purchase meets a minimum value. If you combine this 10% with the tax back, you can receive near 25% off - although exact percentage changes depending on which country you're from. I have to admit i haven't rewatched my video in a while but i think i mentioned i shopped at Harrods in this way and got a 23% saving in the end? Wishing you all the best and have a great trip!!

this video explains so much of what I had questions with, it also goes to show that Hermes / Chanel are companies that are... pretty smart: any company would want to have secure pool of cashflow for other investments, and if luxury bag buyers have to aim long-term to make money, they'll not redeem cash until a long time later, so these companies can totally invest their money into other things safely. Smart, really smart, although its also hella dangerous for the buyers, coz yes, I think luxury item collecting can easily become a serious addiction.

Great video. I decided that I wanted to get a few Louis Vuitton pieces. I had saved up 2,000 for the Neverfull GM. I watched the videos of the LV Neverfull totes. Sorry, but it did not seem like the totes were worth it: cracking, flimsy, etc.. I ended up with a vintage GM LV travel tote that has thick leather straps running up the sides and a thick leather bottom. Bonus, the inside is a nice leather that has a golden brown patina. Score. I also purchased a LV Papillon 30 with the accessory pouch that was vintage. I have over 1,000. Left now to spend. I never thought about purchasing bags for investments- not sure about that one. I am old school- a pension (getting now), stocks, and bonds, plus the old TSA. Great tips.

Haha i think all of us who enjoy luxury goods suffer some form of creeping addiction :P It's scary how large purchases don't feel large anymore! (losing perspective!!) Yes i feel that the separate bank account helps me to slow down my spending and save before i spend!
I'm saving up for a Jumbo flap, despite the 'heaviness" everyone says about it, still love that bag. And maybe I'd be lucky to score a birkin someday like you! You should check out the Evelyn, I love my ultraviolet epsom one, I use it everywhere and it's not so flashy too!
Oh wow yes that's an understated bag and yet with all the amazing luxurious quality Hermes is renowned for! Fantastic pick, especially in your colour :) My birkin has unfortunately been missing in action because i sent it to Paris for some repairs (took 8 months!!) and in that time found a buyer to sell it onto. I'm hoping to keep an eye out for another good deal or else maybe even try to pick one up in Paris...!! We'll see what happens :)

Hi Tammy thank you so much for watching! Great taste in the cute chanel backpack :) In march i'll be doing a detailed video on my chanels so hopefully you find that useful. I was watching the bag for several years and 95% of the sellers are located in Japan. I didn't want to pay import taxes and shipping to Australia so i was planning to purchase it while on holiday in Japan or pay my friend/family to pick it up (a lot of people i know have been hollidaying in Japan). After about 2 years of thinking about this purchase, i found a girl in Sydney who was selling it on carousel - her sister had just bought it from Japan a few months prior but was strapped for cash so had to sell it urgently. I got the bag for AU$2200 which is easily a saving of AU$1000+ compared to buying directly from a Japanese consignment. When i was first interested in this bag, it was only AU$1700! But then backpacks became popular and celebrities like Ariana Grande have been wearing it so the price tripled...I wish you all the best in finding yours!

Always use Pay Pal and PRINT out the terms from the resale websites. Make sure that the terms state that the bag is guaranteed to be authentic or your money back! That yellow bag is so cute! I am so sorry that the import tax is so high in Australia. Maybe you can find someone in America that can get the bags for you. Your import tax is awful!
Yes totally agree with you in regards to checking the terms thoroughly. Yes i love the Balenciaga Le Dix style (yellow bag)! Feel so sorry for Balenciaga that no one seems to appreciate how awesome the Le Dix design is....and yes our taxes are immense! Really appreciate your support :) I have to admit i personally have never tried trading bags so can't speak from experience but hopefully, if you do research on what price a preloved 2009 GST & preloved Mini fetch in $ if they were sold, that could be an easier way to compare their value. You're totally right that the leather type, plating type determine the worth - plus the condition of the bag and how 'used' it appears. It's funny that 24k plating should be worth more but there is the issue of natural tarnishing over time (silver has less maintenance issues) and also general issue of how popular/desired the bag model is by secondhand buyers. Mini bags are sooooo popular right now so that's probably caused the Mini to have inflated value at this point in time. I wish you all the best with your search and look forward to seeing you again!
CMK Thank you for the insight. I looked into it as suggested and the gst is equal in reputation to the classic flap bag. Also known as the "it" bag and is discontinued. So wont be offered anymore. My bag is "like new" condition and mallaries is selling them for 2700-3300 and yoggis is going for 2400 and bags are less in well kept condition. both reputable. thanks p.s. loved wedding video..super cute

Hello CMK I am afraid you were scammed when you bought this bag. The bag is a counterfeit. To begin with, when the price is to good to be true, it often is. The price is the very first red flag, authentic Birkins don't sell this cheap. Specially when they are so new. Another red flag is that the zipper-pull broke, there is no reason why it would break considering you used it so little and the bag is so new. Hermes uses the best hardware in the bags, the zippers are of the best quality, they last years and can take lots of use and abuse. Packaging doesn't imply authenticity, scammers can go as far as to sell you a fake bag with an authentic box and receipt. Your bag is not authentic and there are many more details I could go over to show you why I am sure about it. As I understand you don't have other Hermes bags to compare but I happen to collect Hermes bags for a couple of years and I can tell right away. Please feel free to e-mail me if it feels more comfortable for you. My email is leighgs123@gmail.com. The reason I feel is important to let you know is so get your money back, and you don't re-sell this bag thinking is authentic that wouldn't be fair for the next owner. I also think is very misleading for your viewers to learn about authenticity with a counterfeit bag. Hi sweetpea thanks for stopping by! I find the best option is to send your item in for a quote for repairs/servicing - as long as they accept it and hand you a quote, it proves it's authentic. You can always decline to proceed so it won't cost you anything but at least you have written proof they inspected your item. I have heard from others that you may be able to be emailed an electronic copy of your purchase - but i think this is only possible if you purchased from that local store. Do you think viewers would think i'm plugging a business? That was on my mind...I felt like there's probably pros and cons to each authenticator too. For eg. i know a lot of people contact the authenticators in the Purse Forum but i also came across negative articles online which accused the organisation of prioritising bags sold by each other or each other's friends, and would state a bag - belonging to someone outside TPF community - as (falsely) inauthentic so that the outsider seller wouldn't get the profit. Bizarre!!

How much is enough? I totally get it as I initially had two bags and now over 10 and still wanting more.
This is when I need to honestly ask myself what is it about this that I really love, and trying to replace that feeling with another hobby.
Hey there blackchickadee1 thank you so much for your honesty and sharing something so personal. It's scary isn't it? Especially when you could use that money a thousand other ways and you have loved ones who would benefit from it too. Since i filmed this video a year has passed and i'm now at the 10 bag stage too - on my good days i tell myself that's it! On my bag days i keep thinking of 1 or 2 extra bags to add...I'm lucky that it's not affecting my 'financial responsibilities' in life but there's something wrong when you never know if you're going to stop. I think one part that helps is just to slow down - maybe add 1 bag every 2 years (instead of 3 or 4 in the same time) as it's hard to just stop 'cold turkey'. Very informative video, I love it when someone cares to explain things in detail. I would somewhat disagree on the part of bags being an investment. Yes, you can break even or make a little money out of it, more if you wait longer (as you said). But, those are the operative words though, wait longer. The only reason certain bag styles and brands retain their value is because of false inflation. Luxury brands are notorious with their annual price increase, not because the cost of material and labor increased, but mainly to maintain the illusion of unattainability thus keeping exclusivity and status. Discouraging those people who HAVE TO SAVE in buying their products. Add to that limiting production of certain items (birkins and double flaps) plays in the basic economic principle of supply and demand, giving them more license to increase their prices, people want what they cannot have after all. So, when a poor schmuck from the lower 99% sees their 7-10 yrs old holy grail bag in the 2nd hand market place for ONLY $2-3k they are being led to believe (and willing to believe) that they are saving an exorbitant amount of money because that bag now retails for $6-7k. And the seller is led/willing to believe as well that they made a great investment because they were able to sell their overpriced bag with ONLY $700-900 loss from what they originally paid for. The only reason a luxury bag is a good investment is cost per wear, because most of these brands impeccably constructs their product from only the best and sturdiest materials, and could last a lifetime or two if properly cared for. Anybody who thinks otherwise is only deluding themselves.
Hi Ruth thank you for your time in checking out my long video and your feedback - you are definitely correct! I totally forgot to mention that factor, the false inflation. It is definitely a major factor in the success of the chanel classic items on the second hand market, although i feel that birkin's success is more due to limited stock. The saddest part is that many companies are cutting costs while they raise the prices - i was going to mention it in my chanel video but the deteriorating quality is pretty clear. And yet the prices continue to rise. I will be giving you a shoutout in my Chanel video :) Thanks heaps!

Yes with the homeowners insurance for bags. I do not have any really expensive bags but you can add these to your homeowners along with your jewelry, Rolexes!etc...

Like you i would also love to add the Hermes Kelly to my collection but yes you're right that this is one of the few bag models which actually sells with a premium second-hand! Simply because it's really difficult to walk into Hermes and buy one on the spot. I was 'lucky' with my Birkin in that i found a lady in a desperate financial situation who needed to sell urgently but these cases are rare - it took me about 2 years before i stumbled across her.
I've made bag collector friends on IG who grabbed their Birkin for a good price preloved while they were in France and Japan from local consignments - both countries which have a large number of preloved Hermes stock. Plus they got the tax refund.
However if your goal is to grab the Kelly for as low price as possible, buying it new from Paris tax back is one of your best options! Would you be travelling to France anytime soon?
I'm hesitant to recommend a particular reseller or website to you because in recent years i've come across a number of scammers who give you genuine everything (box, dust bag, receipt, lock etc) BUT they swap the real bag with a well made dupe. I believe it's a trend on the rise :(

I'll also be in Paris later this year as well (October) :) In regards to fashion outlets in Italy, i personally haven't tried them but i'm pretty certain Milan is your best bet as the fashion capital. Would you like me to pass on your email to my friend who lives there and can show you around? In regards to Paris, i've done some research and will plan to shop at Printemps when i visit. If what i've read online is true, they offer all new members (it's free to join) 10% off unlimited number of purchases as long as your first purchase meets a minimum value. If you combine this 10% with the tax back, you can receive near 25% off - although exact percentage changes depending on which country you're from. I have to admit i haven't rewatched my video in a while but i think i mentioned i shopped at Harrods in this way and got a 23% saving in the end? Wishing you all the best and have a great trip!!

this video explains so much of what I had questions with, it also goes to show that Hermes / Chanel are companies that are... pretty smart: any company would want to have secure pool of cashflow for other investments, and if luxury bag buyers have to aim long-term to make money, they'll not redeem cash until a long time later, so these companies can totally invest their money into other things safely.
Smart, really smart, although its also hella dangerous for the buyers, coz yes, I think luxury item collecting can easily become a serious addiction.

Great video. I decided that I wanted to get a few Louis Vuitton pieces. I had saved up 2,000 for the Neverfull GM. I watched the videos of the LV Neverfull totes. Sorry, but it did not seem like the totes were worth it: cracking, flimsy, etc.. I ended up with a vintage GM LV travel tote that has thick leather straps running up the sides and a thick leather bottom. Bonus, the inside is a nice leather that has a golden brown patina. Score. I also purchased a LV Papillon 30 with the accessory pouch that was vintage. I have over 1,000. Left now to spend. I never thought about purchasing bags for investments- not sure about that one. I am old school- a pension (getting now), stocks, and bonds, plus the old TSA. Great tips.

Haha i think all of us who enjoy luxury goods suffer some form of creeping addiction :P It's scary how large purchases don't feel large anymore! (losing perspective!!) Yes i feel that the separate bank account helps me to slow down my spending and save before i spend!
I'm saving up for a Jumbo flap, despite the 'heaviness" everyone says about it, still love that bag. And maybe I'd be lucky to score a birkin someday like you! You should check out the Evelyn, I love my ultraviolet epsom one, I use it everywhere and it's not so flashy too!
Oh wow yes that's an understated bag and yet with all the amazing luxurious quality Hermes is renowned for! Fantastic pick, especially in your colour :) My birkin has unfortunately been missing in action because i sent it to Paris for some repairs (took 8 months!!) and in that time found a buyer to sell it onto. I'm hoping to keep an eye out for another good deal or else maybe even try to pick one up in Paris...!! We'll see what happens :)

Hi Tammy thank you so much for watching! Great taste in the cute chanel backpack :) In march i'll be doing a detailed video on my chanels so hopefully you find that useful. I was watching the bag for several years and 95% of the sellers are located in Japan. I didn't want to pay import taxes and shipping to Australia so i was planning to purchase it while on holiday in Japan or pay my friend/family to pick it up (a lot of people i know have been hollidaying in Japan). After about 2 years of thinking about this purchase, i found a girl in Sydney who was selling it on carousel - her sister had just bought it from Japan a few months prior but was strapped for cash so had to sell it urgently. I got the bag for AU$2200 which is easily a saving of AU$1000+ compared to buying directly from a Japanese consignment. When i was first interested in this bag, it was only AU$1700! But then backpacks became popular and celebrities like Ariana Grande have been wearing it so the price tripled...I wish you all the best in finding yours!

Always use Pay Pal and PRINT out the terms from the resale websites. Make sure that the terms state that the bag is guaranteed to be authentic or your money back! That yellow bag is so cute! I am so sorry that the import tax is so high in Australia. Maybe you can find someone in America that can get the bags for you. Your import tax is awful!
Yes totally agree with you in regards to checking the terms thoroughly. Yes i love the Balenciaga Le Dix style (yellow bag)! Feel so sorry for Balenciaga that no one seems to appreciate how awesome the Le Dix design is....and yes our taxes are immense! Really appreciate your support :) I have to admit i personally have never tried trading bags so can't speak from experience but hopefully, if you do research on what price a preloved 2009 GST & preloved Mini fetch in $ if they were sold, that could be an easier way to compare their value. You're totally right that the leather type, plating type determine the worth - plus the condition of the bag and how 'used' it appears. It's funny that 24k plating should be worth more but there is the issue of natural tarnishing over time (silver has less maintenance issues) and also general issue of how popular/desired the bag model is by secondhand buyers. Mini bags are sooooo popular right now so that's probably caused the Mini to have inflated value at this point in time. I wish you all the best with your search and look forward to seeing you again!
CMK Thank you for the insight. I looked into it as suggested and the gst is equal in reputation to the classic flap bag. Also known as the "it" bag and is discontinued. So wont be offered anymore. My bag is "like new" condition and mallaries is selling them for 2700-3300 and yoggis is going for 2400 and bags are less in well kept condition. both reputable. thanks p.s. loved wedding video..super cute

I am afraid you were scammed when you bought this bag. The bag is a counterfeit.
To begin with, when the price is to good to be true, it often is.
The price is the very first red flag, authentic Birkins don't sell this cheap. Specially when they are so new. Another red flag is that the zipper-pull broke, there is no reason why it would break considering you used it so little and the bag is so new. Hermes uses the best hardware in the bags, the zippers are of the best quality, they last years and can take lots of use and abuse.
Packaging doesn't imply authenticity, scammers can go as far as to sell you a fake bag with an authentic box and receipt.
Your bag is not authentic and there are many more details I could go over to show you why I am sure about it. As I understand you don't have other Hermes bags to compare but I happen to collect Hermes bags for a couple of years and I can tell right away. The reason I feel is important to let you know is so get your money back, and you don't re-sell this bag thinking is authentic that wouldn't be fair for the next owner.
I also think is very misleading for your viewers to learn about authenticity with a counterfeit bag. If you don't believe me I hope I have at least waken up your interest and you have the bag authenticated by a third party.

Hi sweetpea thanks for stopping by! I find the best option is to send your item in for a quote for repairs/servicing - as long as they accept it and hand you a quote, it proves it's authentic. You can always decline to proceed so it won't cost you anything but at least you have written proof they inspected your item. I have heard from others that you may be able to be emailed an electronic copy of your purchase - but i think this is only possible if you purchased from that local store. Hi Rosie Miranda thank you so much for watching! That's a very valid point and i think at the time when i made the video, i also felt like it was the only (big) topic i just sort of skipped haha. Do you think viewers would think i'm plugging a business? That was on my mind...I felt like there's probably pros and cons to each authenticator too. For eg. i know a lot of people contact the authenticators in the Purse Forum but i also came across negative articles online which accused the organisation of prioritising bags sold by each other or each other's friends, and would state a bag - belonging to someone outside TPF community - as (falsely) inauthentic so that the outsider seller wouldn't get the profit. Bizarre!!

Haha thank you Ka for the really unique feedback! I call it my princess bed :) It actually came with sheer pink drapes that cascade over the sides of the top of the bed but i removed them so that my husband doesn't find the bed too feminine (i've had the bed longer than my partner!)
