I got rid of my pull cord switch and installed a sensor in its place. Works a treat and no more cord handle noise from banging against the tiles.
Many thanks for this David. Very helpful. My wires are both reddy brown. Can I wire them either way please?
Perfect. Worked a treat. Thx.
Thanks so much! Really helpful
Sorry David, i need a personal visit to sort my pull cord.
Can I ask.... on our unit the cord ONLY came unravelled and just came out, but when I unscrewed the housing (whiich is all fine, and Ashley one) it was very complex with wiring everywhere.... how do you just replace the cord itself? any advice?
Hi, my one has always been in the L2 does that matter as seems to work, ok
Good video mate. I've got a few of these to do. Couple of questions... Can I extend the wires from the pullstring fitting , chase down the wall and install a wall switch? Another question is can I bury a surface backbox into the wall under part P? I have some surface mounted light switches that I'm wanting to swap for Lap switches. I can't use a sunk metal backbox as they are no earth wire. Also the walls are brick so cannot use the recessed plastic boxes made for plasterboard. Cheers
Hi Pete,
I would not suggest you carry out any electrical work if you are not competent to do so as that could lead to a potentially dangerous situation, how ever answers to you questions:
1, No, you are not allowed to have an ordinary wall light switch installed in your bathroom.
2, You can, how ever they will look odd.
Hope that helps
Do not do that.
Actually it is permissible to have a light switch on a bathroom wall - as long as it is in a specific area, away from the shower/bath - think it's 60cm min.
@@matthewpoulton689 Cheers mate. Yeah I did it months ago.. Works fine
Nooice
What screws?
Sometimes if you get the same make as the one you are replacing you can get away without changing the base
PLEASE HELP. my son pulled the actual cord off our switch this morning. How do i replace the cord only? Id like a shower 😅
Did you manage to fix it? I have the same issue now 😂
I have just changed mine for the same reason. But also managed to fix the string issue. You have to unscrew the bottom bit and then the 2 screw of the surface where the string goes in. Then it's matter or running the new string through the springs and the housing and just retracing the steps back to screw it back in.
Guess it's easier to show than explain 😅
I had to get a repair man to replace the while thing
Hi Janine,
Do apologise for the very late reply, had been off the platform for a while.
Unfortunately there is no way of replacing the cord only if it is snapped right at the switch on a shower switch.
If it is snapped somewhere on the middle you still need to buy a new switch and use its cord to extend the existing cord. You must pay extra attention to the insulating piece of plastic on the cord, it is there to separate the cord on the middle so moisture can not cause continuity on the cord.
Many thanks
@@mohsenzafar1699is there a video for that
Did you really say you have to remove the screws first oh my god I would of never known if you didn’t tell me
Lowest form of wit!
Your better off just leaving your phone number M8, because we've got no fucking chance 😮
Sorry but u have moved away from mic can not hear u speak louder please
Hi Brian,
Do apologise for that! Will do next time!
Why didn't you follow good electrical practice by checking your tester on a recommended test block and then check the cables we're dead and re check your tester on the test block before removing the wires,I would suggest that if your video is for the DIY community then it's critical that you show them the correct method, just because you put the light on and then switched off the breaker and when returning the light was off doesn't 100% mean the switch is dead it is possible for the lamp to have failed whilst you were away from the bathroom so as an electrician of 50 years I would advice you to follow my method ,if you want to keep yourself and your DIY community safe
David, what you just said was really, really boring 😴
@@anonymouse74it was fine!
David. My light fitting has 2 reddy brown wires. Can I wire them either way please?
