    This is lots of work to go through protecting a folder. Apple should just have a direct right click on the folder and have a menu for password protect and not change the image of the folder either.

      exactly. so much messing about when all you need is a simple right click password menu. I lost the will to live in the end and gave up in the end. After all that I had no idea if it had worked and guess what ? it didn't

    Update for Thomas Yes you can add files to your protected folder as long as you select the option to read and write when creating the disk image. I tried it and it works.

      Awesome info, thanks! Does it have a size limit? I tried but it says files are to big to save, confusing. Any suggestions?

    • @gomezadams9900
      @gomezadams9900 7 лет назад

      I ran into the same problem because I had reached the limit in that folder. I think this is because you probably need to select the size of the protected folder when creating it.

    Let me begin by answering the comments from assassin 404 and Thomas Bolland.
    I agree, apple should add that feature to right click and let you password protect files and folders. But until they do, this is the best option/solution if you want to protect sensitive files on your Mac. To Thomas, I tried to add a file to my protected folder and it would not let me so your answer is once you have created the disk image you cannot add to it. You would need to create another protected folder with a different file name.
    Now David; to add to this video, I was curious whether I could move that protected folder to my time capsule and still be able to access it. And the answer is yes. Once you have gone through these steps, moving any files stored in your time capsule to the desktop first. Then moving the protected folder back into the time capsule. It will work the same as if it was being stored the folder on your mack hard drive. Just remember to eject that disk once your finished with it. I hope this is helpful to others like me who back up all their important files to external hard drives. But I can't say for sure whether it will work an all brands as I'm only using time capsule at this time.
