This makes sorting your photos pretty easy. At the end of the icloud sync stage, you will find all your photos and videos in thier relevant year's smart folders. After that, you can tackle the sorting into non-smart albums at your leisure. Any new photos you take meantime will appear in the 2024 smart album. Thanks!
All the videos are well done; very clear, easy to follow and professional. 5 stars on the Tech Therapy session! I invested in one this past week to clean up and help with a 'dying' laptop; then did a follow up session after deciding on a new laptop to have David migrate the data/manage final clean up and my list of questions. Money and time well spent. Thank you David!
Excellent advice. Here’s a question - for whatever reason photos from my previous iMac did not come over (via iCloud) to my newer MacBook. How best to get them off the iMac and into the new MacBook ?
Happy to help you with this but as a small business I do charge for private support. If you’d like to sign up for a one on one session please visit techtalkamerica.com/techtherapy
Thank you for this!! I have an old system for organizing photos on an external hard drive, it is fine, but I couldn’t keep up with it well. This seems more user friendly. My concern is bringing that massive library over. How could I know if my apple photos could handle all of that too? Do you recommend keeping all your photos/videos in your photos app or do you move old ones out of the app to save space? Also wondering if you have a video (or videos) on how to make sure your photos are backed up well? Thank you!
My first Mac was a 2009 iMac. My grandchildren still using it. I got an iMac because of the Photo app. I started using years for albums since day one. Thanks for all your tips & help.
Very easy, well done in explaining organizing one of the most difficult processes I've struggled with. Do you have anything on how to customize the order of photo's within an album? I find that placing them or grouping them by subject is fine, but sometimes the sequence isn't right, particularly with photos that were scanned or imported from other devices. It throws the story of the pictures off, especially when I have the first picture in a group that starts with everyone on a ride at say, Disney, but the picture of everyone entering the park is at the end of the album. There doesn't seem to be a manual or custom sort available on my version of the Photo app. Do you have a video of for those situations?
Hi, I really liked your tutorial. I have a question about the smart album. If I create a smart album and then later delete it, am I deleting my photos from the photo library?
Hello, love your video instructions, very straight forward; however, I'm stuck. I purchased the organizer from your website and it appears I'm missing thousands of photos and videos from the 2024 Folder as well as the 2024 Smart Folder. That was the main reason for my purchase. When I click on the "Library" at the top, all the photos are there, would you please tell me what I'm doing wrong? It does say, "synced with icloud just now" at the bottom by the way. Thank you so much.
This works well for photos that go together in an album (like of a birthday party or other event) but what about all the single photos that aren't thematically connected to each other. Do you create a catch-all album for all the photos that are left or.....?
I am trying to move all my photos out of Mac’s Photo software to a “folder” base management photo and get rid off the photo libraries. I have a lot of photos over the years and decent album structure. Any tips on a good software to use that keeps all the metadata and structure from Photos
When I tried to open the purchased photo library it says unsupported library. The library organized photo is from a newer version of photos. Please upgrade photos to open this library. Then it says updating library with 100 percent complete and doesn’t work from there. Any info would be gladly appreciated.
I'm just going to piggy back on this because I have a 2015 MBP retina running Monterey right now and I am about to pull the trigger on this. Thank you for any help!
@funkstamari1 this only works on Mac’s running the current operating system. Working on creating a version for older operating systems but it’s taking some time
@TechTalkAmerica I have two questions: 1) You said that deleting a photo out of a smart album DOES delete the photo permanently. What happens if I delete a smart album? Is it just like deleting a regular album, and no photos are lost? I'm scared. I have some smart albums I'd like to delete, but I want to be certain I'm not going to lose any photos. 2) iPhotos already organizes photos by date, so it's easy to find them by year already. Since this happens automatically, what is the benefit of also creating smart albums by date? Is it just a preference?
Amazing timing! I’ve literally made a pact with myself today to get my photos organised! I have years to go through & have avoided it but now feels perfect timing! Cheers 🎉😊
Hey sir! Purchased and downloaded the organization template applied to my google photos - but aboslutely no photos or videos were organzied into the years - would love to be able to just utilize apple photos but google photos seems to never have issues
Love your videos Did you make any videos on how to convert and Store DVDs on a hard drive? I can’t imagine you didn’t but I was looking through your videos and couldn’t find one. Maybe a suggestion for new video??😉
Great tutorial! It's not overly simplistic where it's feels like he's treating you like an idiot like some videos, yet not overly complex to the point it's just confusing. I like it when tutorials actually go beyond the basics to lesser known tips and tricks, such as deleting a photo from an album doesn't delete the photo but deleting it from a smart album does. However, 20 bucks for a template that took me literally 5-10 minutes to recreate is pretty outrageous. At best, I would consider it to be worth about 5 dollars. It is a time saver, but honestly it will only save you about 10 minutes if you're somewhat familiar with Photos. My suggestion: lower the price or simply watch the previous video that shows you how to setup your photos library. All in all, still a good video. I'd also recommend going a bit more in-depth with additional methods to organize photos, specifically for search-ability. For instance, using keywords, adding names to faces, renaming titles or captions, and editing other available metadata. Personally, I also have smart albums for any photos that do not have a location or keyword or title assigned to them so that I can make sure all metadata is available and accurate.
Hello. Can i organise my photos into albums and folders and then transfer it to an external hard drive. Then get back to my photos on my mac and delete all from iCloud ( I am already subscribing to extra storage) 😮as it is full and want to start all over again. What would you recommend I do? 🙏 Thanks
Same issue, just backed up whole iCloud to SDD and another second copy of library photos to an HDD to make sure. But after organizing i'm gonna back up all photos to an third HDD exfat so I can copy them to PC.
With your smart album containing 2 rules. The format you have is month/date/year. My country uses date/month/year. Will your download system sort my photos in the various albums or do I need to change the date format in all of the smart albums before I use your system.
Not sure what am doing wrong but after my photos download (synced with icloud just now) it reverts back to all my original albums and the To Be folder is not there. Any suggestions??
I have 95% of my pictures and videos already organized by year but in an external SSD. And have photos in photos library from 3 years ago. I only have 512GB SSD and about 2TB of total photos/videos. By doing this, could I keep my photos library in an External SSD indefinitely instead of the Mac’s internal storage?
There are a few brands im a fan of. Sandisk lies about the drive speed but it’s still a pretty good bang for your buck. www.amazon.com/dp/B08GTYFC37/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_GC96QJJ4V1MJKEAFW932?linkCode=ml2&tag=tectalame06-20
I will create a backup of my Photos library for the sake of insurance. However, rather delete the current library why not leave it where it is, then move the new library in the same folder. Now I can use the Option Key while opening the Photos app and select the new library and proceed from there?
If you are selling a product not offering a how to tutorial you should state that right in the title. people should not have to listen to you for whatever minutes in order to find out that this process requires that you they pay you.
He shows you how to make it yourself if you want, the secret sauce is just the smart albums and they only have 2 rules each. His product is just a time saver, if you’re sufficiently in a hurry, or just want to support him.
Technically, he is teaching you his method to do it yourself. The message here is that if you do not want to do it yourself, download the temple and adjust it to your needs.
Believe it is better to learn how to make these templates or organize photos photo app and how to sync them to the iCloud and do same thing with iPhone photo app . takes a few tutorials but I guess some people just don't have time to learn and can afford to buy . which is good too .

Will there be a version coming for use with Apple Sequoia
Great video! However, what happens to the shared albums I have set up?

Yes, It will work with your system.
I have photos from multi year projects I would like to put in albums. Is there a best way to do this?
It sounds like the same use as the “Hobby” folder I created so I’d migrate them into that
Not sure what am doing wrong but after my photos download (synced with icloud just now) it reverts back to all my original albums and the To Be folder is not there. Any suggestions??
I live in Holland and my library and all the settings are in Dutch. Can I then still use your download?
Shouldn’t make a difference
Acces my photos on an ipad😅. Not on a Mac. Would this process work?: alex
Nope. Not for you

I don’t own a physical external hard drive… Could I just upload it to a folder in iCloud?
You can’t
what if you have pictures on two iPads, 2 iPhones and1 mac book???
what kind of a hard drive should I get?
There are a few brands im a fan of. Sandisk lies about the drive speed but it’s still a pretty good bang for your buck. www.amazon.com/dp/B08GTYFC37/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_GC96QJJ4V1MJKEAFW932?linkCode=ml2&tag=tectalame06-20

You could do that but you have to be very careful in monitoring your hard drives capacity

No
Those eyes are still pretty!
I have 44,000 photos and 1500 videos, I don't think your system would work, do you?
Absolutely it just takes a little bit longer when it comes to pulling down your library from the cloud
yes it works! I have the same amount of photos and videos and organize it over the many last years the "old" way. Perfect, easy, fast. 👍
It sure does! I’ve followed Dave’s instructions as per his first video, and dealt with numbers similar to yours. Go ahead, you won’t regret it!
Wal come my brather how are you
