reminder! ONLY THE BLUETOOTH VERSION of the regular ultimate has hall effect sensors. The Xbox/2.4GHz version of the normal ultimate that he is showing has normal alps joysticks
If i hadn't bought 4 different 8bitdo controllers already I'd be all over this, but one of them is already a perfect fit for my desk setup, and the others are fixtures in my portable Switch kit.
The ergonomics on this line of controllers is more narrow than what’s comfortable for me. I felt like I had to bend my wrists inward and close together and after 30 min felt wrist strain.
yea $20 is outa control for this.. those bumpers and dpad are soo good. I use the non Hall effect Ultimate for competative Halo.. the sticks are def precise enough vs a dualsense I was previously using, and shows lil to no drift w deadzones turnd all the way off.
@@pazzoeo depends what you are playing if its a 3d platformer the fact the 8bitdo has no stick drift can be a game changer but for most other types of games I would stick with first party as PS5 has Adaptive Triggers and even Xbox has Vibration Triggers for One/Series controllers and almost no 3rd party controller has them features.

@@arranmc182Who the hell uses the joystick in platformers? Oh wait, Xbox users. On PlayStation controllers that just feels unnatural since the d-pad is next to the buttons.
honestly i'd say they surpass them (normal versions anyway, no clue about the xbox elite controller) the ultimate is even cheaper than first party xbox controllers where i live and it has more features so it's kind of a no brainer.
I picked up the ultimate switch version and I love it. I love how 3rd party controllers do both expensive and cheaper (in price) alternatives options. I will probably pick up the switch version when they release it
5:28 Yup, especially since that Ultimate 2.4g controller you are holding also does NOT have Hall Sensor sticks; only the Ultimate Bluetooth controller, with the Nintendo style ABXY button placement has Hall Sensor sticks.
Just grabbed the full pro controller because of its multi platform capabilities. This is a cool option especially at that price point but without a Switch option it’s just not as useful.
Bought a stadia controller for ~$8 a couple of weeks before they opened up for BT. So nice to hold. I looked at 8BitDo controllers for a second, but found another Stadia controller. If I went for another brand I would go for a 8bitdo, but more likely pro 2 as it does not have that wacky placement of the analog sticks.
Seems like you're conflating the two versions of the Ultimate controller in this video. You're saying "the ultimate controller" like there's only one and keep showing the Windows version (Xbox layout face buttons) while talking about hall effect sticks and motion controls, but only the Switch version of the ultimate controller has those features. Although I don't really blame you. There are so many variants of this controller.
😄👍I’m so glad I saw this video. Just ordered a wired one now. I use an android retro console thing and hate the crappy wireless controllers they give you. They feel wrong in hand and I love my switch controller. Thanks Kevin. Great video. 😎
I wish I could like this video twice regarding the hall effect rant you went on. I really do hate how everyone suddenly acts like stick drift is the black plague and only hall effect and save the world. I don't have that issue in a single controller that wasn't a joycon.
8bitdo if you’re reading these, please release this controller for the switch with rumble and Gyro controls. Also, your ultimate controller for the switch is over priced, just saying.
@@Josuh I have three and they’re great but the not waking up from sleep mode, stick placements and lack of charging dock (which I could take or leave) is my issue
Can the wireless version be connected to the steam deck via Bluetooth? Cause my dock is pretty much full ! And I would be connecting 2 controllers at one time !
Wait, is it "doo" or "doh"? Also, if the wireless variety comes in that green color then I think I've found my next controller. That is an extraordinarily beautiful shade of green, and the accented green for the buttons and d-pad complement it very well.
@@Spockability Somehow I never noticed people pronouncing it as "doo" before, but the "doh" pronunciation does make sense given their retro associations and cloning of Nintendo's designs.
Drift HAS BEEN a big issue for me with controllers. Both my ps4 and ps5 controllers have drift issues. Same with ps2 controllers, most eventually developed drift. An older 3rd party controller by thrustmaster also ended up having drift.
I have dwarfism and the steam deck is too big for me to hold for long but since I have a steam deck, I can't enjoy it because it hurts my hands. So, are there any small controllers? Hate seeing my steam deck gather some dust. Steam has more games than the Switch and I want to enjoy it but the pain from osteoarthritis prevents me from playing the Steam deck unless I find a small controller.
I really like the shape of the Ultimate controller but I had that annoying driver error on my pc and I can barely use it a few weeks after I bought it, that's why I had to sell it.
How did you get this to work with Windows? I tried pressing the X button before plugging in the controller to USB but it just does not work. Really loved the feel of the controller, but since it was not recognized either by my windows laptop or my linux desktop. I ended returning this controller and ended up getting a logitech f310.
just ordered one, wish it had more colors... thanks for the review. if this model goes well I'm done buying overpriced xbox controllers. the series x controller's A button I have developed double tap within a year, and now 6 months later the right stick is drifting.
I wonder why they removed switch compatibility? Color is great. Does anyones right bumper (R1) on Ultimate gets stuck sometimes? So annoying during rocket League!!
I guess that's a preference thing, since asymmetrical sticks are 100x more comfortable to me than symmetrical. This is coming from someone who's used Pro 2, just don't like the layout. Not a bad controller by any means, but would prefer asymmetry!!
Unpopular opinion, but I kinda wish this controller had symmetrical sticks instead or at least for that price. Growing up with PS, symmetrical layout always felt more natural to me and it's arguably most optimal for playing games that uses both d-pad and sticks regularly and for arcade/retro games in general. Don't get me wrong, the asymetrical layout is still comfortable, but I just prefer symmetrical overall
I might be okay with that if the sticks were farther apart than on a PS controller. I'm always bumping my thumbs together on symmetrical controllers and it's annoying.
@@superkill30 Based from what I've seen, the majority of people who use controllers prefers asymmetrical layout. Even in the PS community, a lot of people despise the symmetrical layout and opted for the third party options. If you take a look at all the third party controllers available for PS, Xbox and Switch, the majority of them are asymmetric
For PC use I still believe the official Microsoft Xbox 360/One/Series controllers are the best and have the most compatibility with modern games especially if you have the Xbox wireless adaptors for windows.
