Just bought a 2023 trail boss in radiant red tint coat with the 6.2, first Silverado and I absolute love it so far
Have a 2011 5.3.... still driving it today. Its had a couple small issues, but I absolutely love it.
I love my 2022 "refresh" 6.2 Trail Boss - the power is just plain fun and the tire noise isn't an issue because you have to expect it with an off road centric tread.
My dream pickup truck! Great review Ben!
Have got the 21 Trail Boss with the 6.2 and I love it. There are parts of the refresh that I wouldn't mind having, but I prefer my column shifter.
I like the 2 tone on the doors myself.
All the gasser engines are great, one for every type...mpg - all around - enthusiast. I tested the 2.7t and it had some serious punch (6500' elevation), but didn't have the sound. Went with 5.3L. I do wish they went back to the old column shifter and give me more room on the center console.
I like your reviews Ben. Agree with other comment that for that price the ZR2 might be worth the extra money. The Home Screen button is great and the buttons on the infotainment screen are customizable so I deleted mine for something else since there is a dedicated. Truck was pretty dirty for brand new. Really LHM? Clean it up for Ben.
Nice one.. I'm a fan of the Trail Boss!
6.2 is an awesome engine. I had one in my C6 Corvette. Always started with touch of the button, never leaked or burned a drop of oil, and produced power and torque in gobs. It made a great go-fast engine in a sports car and would be a great engine in a pickup.
Sorta the same engine but not quite. Different generations and you had an LS3 Gen 4 this thing is an L87 Gen 5
Not the same motor…. Difference cam profile, compression etc… but ya cool story
My 6.2 with the pulsar lt installed make the truck super fun, it handles like a sport truck, faster than the 5.0 and even right up with the ecoboost.
Ya just like the 6.4 in the ram 2500 and 6.4 srt .
Excellent review, along with the trolling titles, great truck but the gray interior for me is a no go.
Absolutely love my 21 Trailboss 6.2/10spd it pulls my Camaro on the trailer with absolutely no problems
The 6.2L 10 speed is magnificent
If the fix the lifter problems I might think of buying one
Yup....I still scarred from my 15 6.2L lemon that ate lifters, and had a horrible tranny.....and highways vibes.
Oh....and if it needs premium you can have it,never again.
Great job Ben!
I have the 2021 and the exterior is better but that new interior is really nice!
Anybody notice the ding on the upper fender panel just at the a piller
Thank you Sir! I appreciate this. You Da man 👍🏼
I drive a 21 Ram Bighorn Crew cab . 5.7 L. Being a Chevrolet guy at heart I’d go with the the 6.2 L. When my lease is up I might go back to Chevrolet if they can work out a better deal then Ram. So far Ram has one sweet ride for the $$$. Ford and Chevrolet are not giving much incentives. There loss, Been driving Chevrolet for years, they wouldn’t budge or come close to the deal I got on my Big Horn. I may just become a Ram guy in the near future.
The Ram rides ten times better than any GM truck and the interior fit and finish is miles better. I bet that GM truck is the same as the 2014-2018 models underneath that pretty outer skin.
Aren't the seats pretty much the same? Maybe LT Trail Boss seats are heated but not cooled?
How many times did you have to do the introduction over to get it right
Great price for a nice truck. I love it.
I've had my 6.2L 2023 LT Trail Boss for about 7 weeks now and my gas mileage is almost as good as it was in my 5.3L 2018 LTZ. The power difference is amazing. Love it overall but it does feel much larger than my LTZ did, and the floor shifter is counterintuitive (you have to push forward from park to put it in reverse).
2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Z71 Trail Boss 6.2L V8 Crew Cab 4X4!
Great review
Ive had a 6.2/10 spd RST since early 2020.Id love a new refresh, but not willing to give up my sixxer.Everything hitting lots is a 2.7td/5.3g
Keep the 6.2 you won’t regret, an LTZ with 6.2 and the new interior would be nice…
I have a 2015 3.5 ecoboost that has a 18.6 MPG average. That's my work horse.
You must run street tires on it and drive like a 90 year old grandma because I call bullshit on that. I have a buddy who has Toyo Open Country tires on his 3.5L and he said he gets about 15/16 MPG. Turbo charged V6 is not much different than just getting the big V8 engine.
I have a 2020 TB. With 6.2. Have 100k not a problem. So I went and got a 2024 same truck. Different color
I don't think I've ever test driven a truck when it wasn't out of gas.
Not sure where these 6.2 Silverado's are $66k. Here in Oregon most Dealerships are stocked with the 2.7 and the 5.3 RST models are at $63k sticker. That's without the $2-3k markup with the protection stuff they add. I got the 2.7 for now. Got it earlier in the year for $44k.
Ben Hardy. Master of clickbait titles. But I actually love your reviews.
No, Scotty Kilmer is the master of clickbait. At least Ben actually talks about what's mentioned in the title. Kilmer has never done that and he has millions of subscribers. Go figure.
Got to have the cup holder arm rest
Chevy and GMC prices are insane! I’m not paying $70,000 for a truck with interior that looks like it’s from 1996
1996 are you blind. Go ahead and buy ford and dodge and loose your hind end on the fact they plummet in value.
@ Charlie B it's a good thing you aren't forced to buy one, eh?
@@elche1976 I used to buy Chevys, never again
@Charlie B cool story. Better to buy vehicles for what you need, not just brand alone.
@@elche1976 I owned 6 Chevys in a row, then I bought a 1997 Ford Thunderbird, 2000 dodge Ram, then 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel…then after that 5 Honda cars in a row for work and for weekends a 1986 Monte Carlo SS(have videos on my channel) and 2015 Subaru WRX and 2016 Subaru STI. Never replaced 1 part on any Honda’s I’ve owned. I want to buy a used Toyota Tundra. I have 2014 Honda Civic now along with 86 SS
They should make a silverado SS with the 6.6L (400 CI) 🥰🤤😍
That Trail Boss Looks Good I Loved The 6.2L Big Boy V8 & The Sound Of That With A 10 Speed & A 3.42 Axle Ratio Which Is A Max Trailering Package. The Trail Boss Doesn't Have The Max Trailering Package Which Is A 3.23 Axle Ratio It Is A Minimum Tow Package & That Is A Fuel Efficient.
I am buying 1 with weekend .. with 6.2
I got the last of the custom trailboss 6.2 10 speed they don’t make them any more only In LT
In December of 21 I got the custom trailboss In black it came with multifunction tailgate, running boards, factory led fog lights and weather liners 6.2 10 speed ooo and trailerbrake control for 48k out the door I think I got a steal!!! Now a days you have to pay 60+ for a 6.2 Silverado or sierra 👎🏼
The plastic scoop thing on the hood is rubbing paint off on hoods. Chevy is aware for several months and still no fix. Also major lifter issue with the 8 to 4 cyl deactivation. I know someone that had the engine on a 2020 6.2L engine replaced due to lifter stuck.
Try thousands of people with lifter issues.
Ben my question is I am trying to but this truck with 5.3 22 model year is 69200 out the door a good deal?
I see lots of folks on RUclips going for trailboss then spend more $ to get a lift kit why not go for RST “ cheaper and has more future” then spend extra saving on a lift kit.
I’ve had the 2021 6.2L TB in silver for almost 2 years now. Would never upgrade to these. I’ll never pass over my old style gauges. Fuck all that digital dash crap.
At 6:15 the sticker clearly shows 2022.
My next truck
I ordered in November, the original estimate was mid-February. Haven't heard anything from the rep other than a week ago it was sitting in preliminary status. Anyone have any similar date range and updates? And others, how many weeks for you from ordering to receiving the truck?!
Just go buy one off a lot somewhere, new trucks are literally overflowing at car dealerships here in Houston. You may want to wait another month because pretty aggressive incentives are on the way. High interest rates are preventing the dealers from being able to sell to the people they used to. The new car market has been propped up by being able to sell cars to people that can’t really afford them but that party is over. You might also want to consider buying used as that market is about to have as much as a 40% correction due to the massive volume of repossessions that are happening.
@@houstoncowdog I hope you're right about the promotions. I have specific requirements like 6.2L Crew Cab max towing package, and then a few desires that aren't standard dealership-orded trucks.
Didn’t you say you like the Ecoboost in some of your videos? Everyone has an opinion, but stay consistent. 🤷♂️
Would a 2022 hood would fit on my 2021 trail boss 6.2
I'M sure it would.
Why did the sticker say 2022?
Trailboss... funny name for something you'll never see on the trails.
The interior colours are not appealing to my taste. But, if I was back in the truck market this would be my choice. Very nice.
That interior is nicer than the AT4 in my opinion and the diesel is only 67,000.
i dont like the feel of the baby duramax too much, ordered a 5.3 took too long(im a chevy salesman) and the rates were going up... got a loaded rst with 5.3 love it.. my 6.2 is about to be here too.. not loaded just 6.2now do i trade my rst in and get the 6.2 but loose leather, bose, sunroof/ power rear slider, multi flex.. just for the 6.2 and slightly cooler hood/ black bumpers.. i think my 5.3 is great feeling.
Yea i would hold onto that RST.
Oh boy, the 2023 is the definition of a refresh model. The front end of the 2019 is much nicer, and cleaner looking.
I know I wish you could beat this one’s interior in the 19/20 Trail Boss
I just swapped my Silverado ZR2 for another Raptor. That 6.2 feels like a turd and has lots of ticky/squeally engine noise.
22 ZR2 msrp $73500
22 Raptor MSRP $73,890
Could you imagine buying one of these with a 4 banger? Hahaha
My nephew has a TB that's couple of years old. Super noisy, sounds like it needs new wheels bearings, probably just tire noise.
Yeah the wranglers are annoyingly loud.
Are there any difference from the 2022?
Nah same truck
Steering is too slow and light for me. But I do like the GMC sierra exterior and interior much better than Chev.
Diesel is great for MPG but with diesel prices and DEF and maintenance of diesel i bet overall cost comparison of gas v. diesel is a wash.
Lifter issues on the gas engines but I'm wondering if all the pollution crap on the diesel will be problematic down the road.
Plastic fenders 😫😫😫
Maybe run it through the car wash before a review :)
Better fix the dent in the fender above the Z71 logo. Maybe should clean the truck up before doing a review.
I have the 2020 Trail Boss with the 6 1/2 foot bed and 6.2 V8. It is the best truck I have owed. I have had 5 other trucks. Dodges and Ford, and the Chevy has been bullet proof. The 6.2 hauls ass, and is a comfortable ride. The only thing I did not like is the Goodyear Tires. Too damn noisy between 50-60. I could not hear my stereo, so I recently fixed that issue by installing Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT's. They look aggressive and are nice an quiet. Good in the rain as well.
Bet the 6.2 fails under 100k... sadly. Should be the best NA v8 out for a full size truck but they cant make it reliable 😔
@@omardevonlittle3817 Chances are you don't have one. I had a 2019 Ford F-350 with the 6.7 Powerstroke Diesel, it started to leak oil at 16,200 miles. If you want to talk about any engine, Ford is the worst. My truck is great.
@@danaberman6929 of course I dont have one. I research big purchasing decisions. Spending 6k rebuilding an engine isnt an option for me
Trail boss is a rough ride. I've been in a 2019, 2020, 2021 and a 2022.. they are as stiff as Brandon.
I ordered, and got, a ZR2 end of Sept 2022. Coming from decades of F250 Diesels...I did a LOT of re-learning.
I learned: The idiots who designed the GM shifter, should be fired and never allowed to design a toothpick. Who the hell thinks pushing the shifter forward to go into Reverse was a good idea? Such a pansy ass design.
Anyway - the ZR2 LOOKED great...but it is NOT a good choice for my commuting or towing whatsoever. (I will get flak for saying that likely). Hear me out - commuting...fuel economy is garbage.(premium fuel) If you have THAT much 'spare' money for fuel to drive back and forth to work, then good on you...but it ain't a sexy ass Vette or other sports car...it's a truck. (there are smarter choices IMO)
Towing? The engine has power for SURE - again - PREMIUM FUEL and the range is pathetic. I towed two sleds in an enclosed trailer -- it bounced between 25L/100km to 27.1L/100km. I didn't expect good fuel economy when ordering this truck, and that part sure delivered! lol
Towing Part 2: The shocks are sooooo soft and squat faster than a hooker at 1am, as soon as you put any trailer tongue weight on this truck - it collapses. (so, I bought Timbrens to compensate)...the Timbrens helped, but changed the ride into a buckboard....so after 28,000kms, I tapped out.
I traded it in for a loaded up 2023 LT Trail Boss Duramax and couldn't be happier. It is the truck I had hoped the ZR2 was. The ZR2 engine was a poor choice and the suspension was a poor choice for ME (and realistically 90+% of future buyers)...when I ordered my ZR2, none were around to LOOK at - so I bought it with the off-roading hype and in MY head..big, beefy, lifted and stiff rugged shocks - basically a Trail Boss on TRT. Instead, it rode plush and soft like your wife's grocery wagon.
I realize I have gone off on a ZR2 bashing tangent here LOL sorry. Moral of the story is that I am super happy with the 2023 LT Trail Boss with the Duramax (fingers crossed these motors hold together).
Always like your content Ben - and yeah the Ford Eco-boost engines are ticking time bombs.....(or at least their turbo's are) Cheers
I really wish they would get rid of that useless stop/start crap🤬 garbage absolute garbage!!!
Would be cooler with a sport truck package. Like Red accents, and carbon fiber in place of the faux wood trim. Overall though a really incredible truck!
There’s a V10 Ford F250
Crazy expensive. It’s just not possible to get value in truck purchases. Pricing has outpaced income so much it’s left people in the dust.
It's Cooler when that 6.2 gone knocking by 10,000 miles LOL
I'd rather have this trail boss than the zr2.
Will the lifters fail before the 1st oil change?.......JUNK!
LMAO ripping on those FOMOCO
For 66k at least come with 35in tires
Lifter issues
Ford needs to stop being stubborn. And offer a 5.0 with high output. Or offer the godzilla 7.3 gas motor as a option as well with there f150 line up. Like i get it with the ecoboost . But some us just want raw v8 power
I think ford would have to redesign that whole truck if they wanted to fit a 7.3 big block in a half ton LOL
@@zimks it’s not as wide as the 5.0…
That would be nice but honestly in real world testing the 5.0 is quick! There's a guy on RUclips that compared a new 5.0 versus a 6.2 back to back and the 5.0 was actually slightly quicker!
@@freedomisntfree_44 okay but what about width/depth/weight?
@@zimks people already have them in mustangs and the f150 had the 6.2 till 2014 which is larger physically….the 7.3 is just a little longer weight is about 130 more pounds but that’s not much
Had a 2022 AT4 for 2 months then returned it. Most uncomfortable front seats in any vehicle that I have ever owned. That's over 20 in the last 12 years. Sightlines from GMC/Chev trucks are reduced vs the competitors due to the high hood configuration, not including the hood vents. The single sunroof looks and is 10 years behind the times, and my AT4 had a manual sun shade. There also wasn't a sunglass holder which I found odd. The refresh was much more modern than the previous iteration. But I still found it too 'plasticy' and things like the speed at which the upper glove box door opens was chincy in my opinion. The 3.0L Duramax engine was great. Most noticeable was the delta (lack there of) between everyday driving and towing MPG. Obviously the MPG decreased while towing, but compared to the 3.5L ecoboost or 5.0 V8 in the F150, it was much, much better. I wish all of the manufacturers would position the overhead console buttons so you can see what they are without having to become a contortionist. Another suggestion for all manufacturers would be to make the bottle/beverage holders more capable of holding a common and wide variety of containers. GM's are great for tall and skinny, while Fords are good for short and wide only. Like to see more attention by OEM's to the workspace in the rear of the cabin, not just the front. How about some pull down trays similar to those found on planes to provide people a workspace for laptops or food?
I just picked up a 22 Sierra Elevation and also found it odd that it did not have an overhead sunglass holder. Gadgets are cool, but it also needs to have things you use on a daily basis. Good points 👍
I agree....funny enough my son is a die hard Chevy fan but is extremely disappointed in the seats on the newer trucks.
Disadvantages of a Panoramic Sunroof
During the hottest summer months, the added glass can cause the interior of the car to become warmer than cars without a sunroof. In the coldest winter months, condensation from the window may cause moisture to drip into the cabin.
Why are your reviews always so rushed? Like I can barely understand you at times much less digest the information you are providing. You should explain why you like the diesel better or link to a video that explains why. Overall this was too rushed to be helpful.
It’s to keep video run time short, people have no attention span
@@BenHardyCars yeah, that's why long form podcasts and epic documentaries have zero audience. 🤣
Change the video playback speed to .75
does it still have the active fuel management? Then its junk!
I called about a 2023 6.2 TB at Larry H. Miller and a sales guy was a bit rude to me. Nice lil starter dent over the Z71 badge @1:40. Can't have anything nice anymore, too many morons.
$66K for a truck with poor gas mileage. I’ll pass.
More of these have failed before the first oil change than the “eco poop” too.
Complete BS
@@ada-yw1bb type in gm lifter failure 😂 bullshit yourself guy it’s facts.
@@ada-yw1bb ford ain’t got the lawsuit 🤭🫡
Eco poop ? In your other video you called it eco beast
He’s just clickbait trolling, trying to get more comments and views. It’s a shame, because he’s making good content, though the troll titles can be a turn-off.
"9100lb payload"? Did I hear that right?
I kept the blooper in, because it was funny
@@BenHardyCars right on… Great content as always
Unfortunately the new 6.2s are untunable besides that it’s a nice truck but no comparison to the Raptor off road
why are they untunable?
I ordered my trail boss, October 2021. It came in the end of January 2022.
Mine is the base model custom only wanted four options, the 6.2 L and remote start, along with the bed plug and lighting in the bed.
No console no nothing with the original - not that cheap digital one that’s no better than the 84 Corvette.
We have two new Chevrolets with that junkie digital dash and both of those have been in the shop three or four times with busted dashes they can’t take the Texas heat and ruff oil field roads at the same time.
My trail boss out the door was 47,277.
Oh btw i still have a real gear shift on the steering colon instead of the soccer mom side shift.
How you say you can’t afford the big dick trail boss without saying i cant afford the big dick trail boss. Thats what your comment sounds like to me, because that custom trail boss is cool, but nothing near the LT TB
Not sure, Is a polite way to say: it’s Hideous!!! 😂
I would choose the Duramax, but the 6.2L is cool too
Grandpaw interior color seats.
GM is behind pretty much everyone when it comes to interiors.
Wdym why
Man I hope that hood bulge isn't a stick on or plastic. Chevy uses some of the cheapest interior components I've ever seen.
GM boys buy a V8 and get Cylinder deactivation 😆 🤣 😂
My 5.3 is good. I wouldn’t get the pointless 3.0 lol
🤭👈 it's out of gas cuz they knew you were on the way Benny/they like he can use some of that RUclips money to put gas
Diesel please!
9100 payload!
I think the Ford has a better engine
Let’s be honest…. Spending 60+k for something that will rust in 2 years…. I’m good
Nah.
Better than an EcoPoop? It should be given its nearly double displacement! Another v8 is better than anything else intro🤭🤣
The new style of the Silverado are the ugliest trucks on the road and last the shortest 😂
Is this a 2023? Window sticker said 2022.
This guy literally puts a video for anything and they are all basically the same!
