I have been playing for 2 weeks and was wondering why on Earth I was always having to fly in straight lines, now I know why 🤣🤣 Thank you for your time creating such a detailed video for us beginners!
Brilliant coverage and explanation. Thank you. You are an excellent ambassador for exploring the simming envelope Mark; every time I watch one of your videos a new perspective opens and I can feel my brain plasicity being exercised just that bit more (which is a bit essential looking from this end of life's 'telescope'. Great stuff.
Oh wow Mark. Awesome video. Please do more of these kind of tutorials which are clear and focused on a specific topic. Excellent excellent excellent. Top work Sir!
You sir are a god sent!, thank you for this I am a noob onto flight sim and was trying to do this but didn't know where to start!. There are no words to say thank you enough.
Very useful video, as someone who has been flying sims since psion Flight Simulator days on a ZX81 I've always wanted to fly better and more realistically. I'm going to start getting more into this on MSFS2020. Cheers
This is a quality video. Thank you for clarifying things like wind direction when noted in degrees and the odd/even altitude levels based on either flying east or west.
Great work once again Mark. I felt in the beginning that I probably already know this, but then some new information popped out. Wow! A bunch of tnx for that 👌🏽
Hey mark! Love the videos! I just wanted to say that I believe in SimBrief the a20N airframe model is in fact the neo! I’m sure it doesn’t make much difference in the planning of the route, but pretty cool none the less in my opinion. Thank you again!
Hey thank you so much for that terrific video. I have been stumbling around trying to work things by myself and getting very frustrated but in just 24 minutes you had me sorted. Brilliant!
thanks to this video i made a southwest flight from orlando to raleigh using some more realism not 100% but def better. Question of the day to all. Do you think someone with enough SIM hours could land an aircraft or atleast land it with HELP of ATC and autopilot? Also would you volunteer for that role if something where to happen to the pilots?
They are now in the Vision Jet and Navigraph is currently working to add navigraph charts to the other aircraft with G3000 avionics suite. Great video.
Great tutorial. At the point where you’re showing Navigraoh in the sim, is this Xbox or PC? Also without a subscription to simbrief do you still get Sid’s and stats applied to the route ?
Thanks for explaining the flight planning...But How we calculate the right altitude for each flight ? MSFS gives very high altitude even for Short flights
Yes, MSFS reports ridiculous altitudes most the time. Altitude is determined by aircraft type. Small GA usually 5000-9000’ turbo 13000-21000. Small airliner 18000-24000 large airliner 23000-39000. These are a rough guide only.
@@SimHangerFS I appreciate your useful information...Now I just found how we calculate the right altitude for each Flight ✈️ First take the distance from departure to arrival and multiply by 30 then the score multiply by 2 let’s say your distance 200 NM multiply by 30 it’s 6000 and multiply by 2 the score is 12000 so the right altitude for this flight is FL120✔️... and so on for all Flights it worked for me and I wish this help you and others.
Hi Mark thanks for this tutorial really helpful. I picked Alicante as departure and Valencia as arrival. I placed 4 other waypoints along the way. When I clicked fly I had no magenta line but a white one. Why is this so I ha r to have the Flight director and GPS on first before making the route plan. Sorry for all the questions I’m nee to this and gaming in general. I am also struggling in how to communicate with ATC.
Many thanks for another great video. You mention that "FS Academy" is on sale at the moment, but checking the various sites they are sold on they are all selling it for around 22 euros, which I believe is the usual price. ???
you are doing a very good job Sir . i find your tutorials very good , so i subscribed to your channel , only one question for you ... are you a real pilot ? Thank you !
They're only flight levels above 10,000ft and when you're above that all aircraft altimeter pressures are set to 29.92. Below that you set the barometric pressure based on forecasts (area, terminal, etc) and they're not called 'flight levels' - you simply refer to the altitude in feet. So 'Flight Level 75' (or Flight Level 60, etc.) isn't a thing technically and you'd never call it that regardless.
Is it possible to make more than one flight plan so you won’t have to leave the flight to create a new flight plan every single time after you finish one flight
Hi, Mark. Had a bit of a problem here. Although I can select the EGKK and EDDS, plus the Runway 26L and MIMF1M 26L SID, when I go to select an arrival or approach in EDDS, I only see Direct for Arrivals and Automatic for Approach. Am I doing something wrong? Update: I am able to see Arrivals and Approaches in either direction when I set up a trip closer to home (KJFK-KSFO or vice versa). Perhaps it's something airport-specific?
@@SimHangerFS I do! At first I thought that might be it because the ones I didn't have did pertain to Germany/Austria/Switz, but I installed those, restarted the computer, restarted the sim, and still no dice. It's just that one airport, though. I can confirm, however, that it's "Updates Available: 0"
@@SimHangerFS Not only that, but I Googled this and one person showed zero approaches/Arrivals in the FMS of their Airbus (don't recall what kind). Because I don't know how to work an Airbus ( :) ) I chose the C127/G1000 and got only VISUAL07 and VISUAL25. Very strange. I'd be more concerned, but other airports seem fine. Guess I just won't go to Stuttgart!
No disrespect to Mark, but is anyone really using MSFS 2020 for any type of instrument practice? I have MSFS and xplane. MSFS has great visuals, but I have not found aircraft systems conducive to instrument practice. Xplane visuals aren’t nearly on the level of MSFS but the accuracy of instruments and aircraft systems are sooo much better. MSFS is fun as a game.
Fair comment, however, MSFS is doing something the other sims have not excelled at, bringing younger, new simmers into the genre. This tutorial is aimed at that audience and to create interest in the IFR and planning area. MSFS will expand and develop over time, so hopefully provide a platform to generate interest in what will become tomorrow’s pilots.
@@NickMarlin1234 manually. You will have to type in every point yourself by searching for it after you have made the plan in a web browser on SimBrief or an application of some kind. I used to have it but now it's gone.Data is showing multiplayer disabled, very frustrating. Many thanks..
Hi Mark, a couple of “howlers” here I’m afraid. We never say “feet” and “Flight Level” together. An IFR Flight Level is an altitude in multiples of 1000 ft based on the Standard Pressure Setting (SPS) of 1013.2 Hps, or Millibars. It is set as you pass through the Transition Altitude in the climb. It’s use is to reduce the chance of you hitting other aircraft. An altitude in feet is based on the QNH (or the QFE at UK Mil airfields) and is all about you not hitting the ground, it is set when flying below Transition Altitude, or when passing Transition Level in the descent (or as directed by ATC). So, if you hear “Flight Level” you must be on the SPS, and if you hear “feet” you must be on QNH or QFE, and never should the twain be mixed ! En-route charts are used world-wide and produced by any number of organisations, both commercial and military, and come in two flavours: Low and High depending on the national division of airspace. Rgds Chris
Thanks Chris, appreciate the response and detail. You are correct in your statements. My only comment would be this is aimed at first time simmers. The key aim here is simplicity.

Is it possible to make more than one flight plan so you won’t have to leave the flight to create a new flight plan every single time after you finish one flight
Yes, but you would need to use the in-cockpit flight planning via the fmc or Garmin devices installed in some of the aircraft.
My brain is twisting trying to do it manually on a Garmin lol😮
If you do a VOR to VOR flight, is there a way to get the frequencies of the VOR stations you will be using once you are loaded into the sim?
Only through a third party application such as Navigraph…for Xbox …no
