It was so hilarious to me when Elaine asked Spiegel if Depp eating in court was a sign of narcissism. My mind went back to this deposition. Like, girl was literally eating DURING her questioning and then her team tries implying it's a sign of a behavioral disorder lol Everything about that trial was such a projection of her own faults and hypocrisies.

Her descriptions often follow the pattern of "He hit me. He hit me with a closed fist. He hit me with a closed fist while wearing a hat." She repeats the same thing and keeps adding details. I remember thinking: "This kind of description reminds me of something. But of whom?"
And then it hit me: myself. I'm a fiction writer. When I'm doing the first draft of a text, I fall into this pattern of narration. The repetition gives you time to make up new details as you're going along.
Later I have to revise my texts many times to smooth out this terrible repetitive style. But when you're just making up a story, this is a convenient narration tempo. And THAT's why I don't believe Amber Heard (well, that and the body language). She sounds just like me when I'm just making shit up.

I have so so many thoughts.
    1. Elaine saying this is a set back for all women is entirely untrue. You should believe anyone who claims abuse, unless there is evidence to prove otherwise. In this case there was evidence that proved otherwise. If anything, I think amber had too much "evidence" that didn't back up any of the claims she was making. For example, a bruise on her arm that somehow proved he had repeatedly punched her in the face while wearing rings. Her face was visible in that picture and didn't appear to be bruised or swollen. I think she would've been much more likely to be believed, and even potentially could have won the case if her narrative was that she was emotionally and psychologically abused, or that he physically hurt her in ways that could go intentionally unnoticed(because they're both in the public eye) but instead she made grandiose claims that she could not back up, and it made everything she said sound unbelievable. That doesn't mean people will automatically stop believing women, it means they just didn't believe her.
Also, Elaine is intentionally misrepresenting what the UK case was even about, and that's frustrating.
Elaine and Amber both saying there's no way the jury could've not seen what the media was portraying is a slap in the face to the people who served on that jury. They gave up weeks of their lives and took a vow not to look at outside information. Is it possible some of them didn't follow that vow? Sure. But to say there was no way they could avoid it is just untrue, and incredibly inappropriate considering they had no evidence to back it up.
I could go on and on, but the last thing I want to say is, Amber saying "coming from the lawyer of the man who convinced the world he had scissors for fingers" is probably the funniest shit I've ever heard and maybe the worst way I could imagine someone trying to divert the question. Watching that literally gave me second hand embarrassment.

As an abuse survivor he displays classic survival mannerisms. The quirky smile is a coping mechanism. My heart hurt for him. A survivor can recognize another survivor as well as the mannerisms of the abuser. We have had to read our abusers in order to survive or to hopefully placate and avoid the next attack. An abuse victim is NOT going to stare daggers at their abuser. Whereas depp NEVER looks at heard.

Yeah, I have this tendency when talking about bad or sad experiences too. It was one of the things that made me believe his story because I could feel myself making the same gesture if I were to tell the same story. It is a coping thing that some of us do. It is so bad that you are sort of trying to softening things both for your own sake and others because you have probably tried telling them before and gotten too sad or too distraught looks from others...

I have never experienced abuse and smile (and sometimes make jokes) as soon as I am stressed or deeply hurt. that means I smile at funerals and am the funniest patient at my dentist. just to give 2 examples.
and again, with all due respect and to clarify that I am not denying survivors this coping mechanism; my core message is that I have experienced for myself that this mechanism is independent of abuse.

OBSERVE, here's an EXCELLENT IDEA (see Reilly's comment - the original poster)! Last night, I watched a docu-short on Kevin Spacey. SO MANY WOMEN loved him, and refused to believe the allegations about him until the allegations were made very clear by multiple victims.
My first reaction when I saw Spacey in a movie was, "Very good actor; very dark man." He creeped me out, and I knew it was not just the character he was playing. (The movie was American Beauty, and I watched only one scene.)
Spacey has a magnetism that both attracts and repels -- except few are repelled. What is it that I picked up on, that a long thread of women under that docu-short video did not pick up on? Was it because they thought he was hetero and into fully grown women, possibly even them ("Kevin and I would be soooo good together!"), so they disregarded all Creep Cues? What are the Creep Cues, and why do so many people miss the cues? How does the body language of an actor playing a creep differ from a creepy actor playing a creep?

I believe that the reason Johnny appeared to correct himself, "not hiding, locked myself into" was because A) she knew where he was so he wasn't actually hiding, and B) she had ridiculed him about exposing the fact that he was a male domestic violence victim. It would have been incredibly difficult given his stature as a major male movie star to have to admit that he was living in circumstances where he had to lock himself in rooms for his own safety. It would also be very difficult to recall and discuss having a portion of a finger cut off. I'm sure the half smiles were done in order to keep his composure and not call her the "bitch" that she deserved to be called.

    • @rubynibs
      @rubynibs 2 года назад +62

Johnny was abused as a child (his mother was a lot like AH). Children from such families deal with the abuse by laughing about it. "Remember when Mom went after you with a broom? **chuckles** You hid under a bed, and Mom was jabbing at you under the bed!" **snickers**
"Yeah! She was NUTS!" **laughs** That was a twin bed, so by the time Mom calmed down and left me alone, I rolled out from under the bed, covered in broom bruises -- but no dust bunnies! Not in Mom's house!" **everyone laughs** Everyone: "No dust in _my_ house!" **laughter subsiding, as everyone remembers the crazy scene**
Smiling, grinning, laughing about terrible abuse is a coping strategy. When you grow up in a violent home, you either become violent, or you find yourself laughing off the abuse. It allows you to deal with little by little, so that you don't become fragile or broken.

The feeling I get with JD’s half smirk with certain event calling is thinking back and feeling disgust &/or shame for the memory he’s recalling… and kinda having to laugh at a ridiculous thing kinda like what some people do instead or to stop themselves from crying or getting upset about the event(s). When I think of negative events that I hate thinking about or acknowledging I kinda do the same. My dad did the same. It’s kinda like laughing in shame of the event. …. It’s interesting to note how Elaine and the AH team blames Johnny being famous for people not believing AH, while at the same time trying to lean into the whole “this is a setback for women who are victims” thing. A.) it’s actually a step forward for all victims because it shows that the truth will come out and you can have your day in court. B.) by playing into that idea of being a setback, they acknowledge that people have an emotional response to it, and tend to want to believe the victim nowadays. But they say that people just throw that out of the window because it’s Johnny Depp.
The reality is, people believed AH for 6 years, because we took her surface level claims at face value and believed her because she claimed to be a victim. It was only after she got on the stand and elaborated on those surface level claims that people started to see that she was lying. Her believability was not dependent on or really had anything to do with Johnny at all. She did that all on her own. And remember, when she first took the stand, people wanted to believe her because it doesn’t sit well with us that someone would lie about such graphic and upsetting trauma, and most people didn’t want to accept the fact that they believed her and supported her and blamed the actual victim for 6 years, so the odds were really stacked in favor of AH’s testimony being believed, and yet she still was so obviously manipulative and lying that she wasn’t believed and Johnny got justice.

NO! Johnny Depp is not a "trained on-screen talent." Amber is! She's trained, she has an acting coach.
Johnny is a character actor. It's an entirely different thing. He doesn't perform parts like a trained actor. He performs characters. He creates them and inhabits them.
These types of acting are two entirely different things. No director is ever gonna tell Johnny how to play the part, he'll just walk. Amber has been trained to perform emotions and such, and she's not good at it.
Two entirely different things, but unfortunately they're both called "acting."

The judge literally has personal connections to Amber, his wife is friends with another woman who is friends with Amber. Also, the judge's son works for The Sun, and Johnny was suing them. Johnny had no chance in the UK basically, it was dumb to go up against an actual powerful man like Rupert Murdoch. That UK judge literally ruled that "Amber couldn't have thrown a redbull can at JD because she doesn't drink redbull". He also believed her because he believed that she donated all of the money, therefore he ruled that she's not a "gold digger" - however, now we know that she DIDN'T donate the money. The UK judgement is very flawed. He didn't even believe some of her stories, he basically threw out the bottle r@pe story because it's extremely obvious that it didn't happen. If she lied about the bottle r@pe, why did he believe the other stuff? She was a very unreliable witness, yet he still took her word even though all evidence was against her. All of her evidence is hearsay - the audios completely destroy all of her stories. She's not credible, and the judge shouldn't have took her word - but he was probably just protecting himself and doing everything he could to protect The Sun. The Sun is notorious for trashing everyone - the things they've written about Michael Jackson make the "wife beater" article about JD look like child play. Johnny never should have sued them in the first place.

When she's talking about that scenario where she actually confesses to hitting ("not punching") him, she's having a hard time describing what was physically going on during that exchange because, in her mind, what she is doing is flipping the facts where she is in Johnny's shoes and he is in hers because the truth of the matter is, in that scenario, she was not trying to escape Johnny and shutting the door to keep him out. She's recollecting what he was doing because she was the pursuer and abuser and he was fleeing her relentless pursuit of him. In retelling this, she is flipping the script which must be difficult to do in real time but she is retelling it AKA lying saying that she was fleeing him. She's the one who was chasing him room to room and he is the one who is trying to close the door to keep her out and she is the one who kicked the door after he bent down to check on the foot of her (making a utility of his empathy for misdirection) that she just feigned he damaged with the top of the door... At which point she kicked the door and it slammed into his face. And retelling this, she's flipping everything around and imagining yourself and his shoes. She's like a very sneaky, manipulative squid; constantly prepared to Sully the waters / employ misdirection, call upon his empathy, engage him in a circular argument / word salad/ strawman argument... All with intention to Cloud the issue at hand / confuse her opponent / apply deceit and deception ; anything but acknowledge any wrongdoing / take any blame. Just like a very annoying magician with her misdirection. Part of her scarfing down all That snack material is misdirection by the way, while she concocts the next lie while onlookers watch her crunch on snacks.

Strawman argument! This is the word of the month. Even her supporters use strawman arguments when _trying_ to defend her. They bring up the UK trial which has very little in common with this defamation trial. They say that “she won” that the UK trial, when she wasn’t even a party. She was just a witness. They either don’t understand, or refuse to acknowledge that the UK has very different laws and very different thresholds in regards to defamation and it wasn’t a jury of 7 people who decided the verdict together, like in this trial, but one judge (and one _very biased_ judge at that, imo.)
I’ve debated tons of AH supporters since the verdict in the US defamation trial and, either they didn’t watch this trial _at all,_ or they refuse to acknowledge what actually happened. They try to say that a lot of _her_ evidence was “suppressed” when really, she FAILED TO SUBMIT a lot of _her_ evidence because she knew it looked really bad for her. Her supporters talk about how the the audio used in the trial were only 20 clips and therefore didn’t display the whole story and left out context, except the jury had access to ALL of the audio. It was just the audience that didn’t have access during the trial, which didn’t matter as _we_ weren’t the ones deciding the verdict. And even having access to the _full_ audio, this jury _still_ sided with JD and ruled that AH did indeed defame him. (I don’t really count their ruling that _he_ also defamed _her_ because I really don’t think that was fair. HE didn’t say those words, his attorney did.)
They build all these “arguments” on outright fallacies. I have to wonder if anyone who defends her after watching the US defamation trial (and _isn’t_ getting paid) actually watched the same trial as I did? HOW can they still defend her after all the times she was outright caught in lies? I just don’t get it.

I am so glad to know that 98% of the world watching this, were able to decipher who the real abuser is, and how DANGEROUS giving “Carte Blanche” to one sex without “dangly bits”, without question is….
JD, this is, and will be, one of the most important roles in your life, and that is a role in a documentary, a documentary of massive importance to real “equality”, fairness and truth.. On the disgust during his recounting of hiding or locking himself in a room: it would make her more upset and more explosive when he would do this. Leaving an argument, in any way, has shown to make her livid. As someone who who's reacted this way to people yelling at me since I was a kid, I can say it feels gross. When you're doing it, you don't feel safe. You know you're making it worse by doing that, and you wish the situation weren't so intense that you feel unsafe. You know what's happening to you is wrong, and hiding is wrong. You feel shameful for everything, I guess. Thinking back on it later, sometimes it's gross how much of a coward you were and how you shouldn't have given up on fighting for yourself. Sometimes you feel like you should have been able to handle your emotions and just hear the other person out. It's complicated, frustrating and hard to understand why you can't just deal with a situation

OMG ... am I the only one to notice the massive contradiction coming from AH's mouth in this interview? She literally devotes the entire interview to dismissing EVERY allegation made against her. Even in those recordings - where she so clearly seemed to accept that she had "started fights" and had been "hitting" Johnny - she claims that she only said these things because she felt it was the only way to save herself from the deadly rage of her abuser. Yet when Savannah suggests that she may have lost the case because she "refused to admit to any wrong doing", AH suddenly remembers: "I DID and said dreadful, HORRIBLE THINGS" during that 'toxic' relationship! Things that were so bad she now claims "I don't even recognise myself today"!!
    BINGO!!
So now Amber - if you want to be believed - you can drop the pretence that you did nothing wrong and tell us exactly WHAT WERE the horrible things you did?

She should despise her abuser, right?
Remember in her interview she said that the backlash she received from the captain Jack Sparrow fans during the trial was the most horrible and humiliating thing that ever happened to her. I'd argue heavily that if you were an abuse victim at the hands of your beloved husband, that would probably be a lot more horrible of an experience.. She describes s-e-*-u-a-l assault with a bottle that actually broke and glass was left inside and she was cut 😨😱 Clearly it's a purely fantastical story, not only because there is no way something like this would go without medical attention, but arguably violent r-a-p-e and injury would be the most horrible experience of your life, not the lack of support from Jack Sparrow fans... She clearly has no understanding of what that kind of assault does to a woman... She doesn't know what is the true horrible experience like this because IT'S NEVER HAPPENED TO HER. So I have no doubt that in her twisted way she still loves him, obsesses about him and regrets she destroyed the marriage. She is enraged because he rejected her and seeks revenge...

The two things he has always done with his abusers is remove himself, yet still protect them for love's sake. He is indeed consistant in every part of his being. However, Amber takes great steps in her manipulation to take on the role of victim, take the money this man worked for his entire life, and maintain a celebrity lifestyle that she clearly thinks she'd worthy of. HE tried to protect her, even after it all. SHE tried to ruin him from the beginninng for her own selffish means. Even if I was completely deaf, the truth of it all is without question PROVEN.

If there were signs calling for harm against AH, her supporters would have taken pictures and posted them around the internet. As far as I know, there haven't even been poorly photoshopped signs to support this claim.
She talks as if the benches were full of people in pirate costumes and being vocally disruptive, yet the court's own cameras showed nobody in outlandish costumes and the judge warned the audience to keep quiet or respectful if there was too much whispering.
Freedom of speech means the government can't punish you for voicing displeasure at who's in charge and how they're performing. It does NOT protect you from private businesses or individuals if you spread lies that would negatively impact their future.
