Crossfire user here. Love it. It just works. The best quality of any RX link is peace of mind. And Crossfire delivers it.
Ok wtf Bardwell...are you a medium or something?? Just 2 days ago I bought my Nazgul5 V2 with crossfire and the microtxv2 for my taranis qx7....and every setup guide that I've found is at least 2 years old. And here you come to the rescue. Spooky, but appreciate it, man!
Same here... I had no idea and just ordered this week for my x-lite, I couldn’t work out why some sites said 250mw whilst others said 1w... he also covered that. I will be all set when it arrives
Make sure to do the hardware mod. It’s maybe a little intimidating but totally worth it and not hard at all if you follow a video step by step
Same here! Just got the crsf bundle in the mail
@@sleepyheadfpv1507 what hardware mod
@@henryvolpe2263 with the QX7 it doesn’t come with the correct Baud rate of 400k. So every CRsF system comes with this little ass chip you solder on inside the radio. There is also a way to just correct this issue in your radios. But it isn’t actually running the correct baud with the software fix.
Guys, Mr Bardwell suggested to me another video showing how to simply do all this on the SD card plugged into a PC as this was proving difficult on my Taranis X9D. (Titled: three ways to flash open tx)
Doing it all on the SD card while plugged into PC is so much easier and faster to transfer. I got it all working again without bricking my radio.
One thing I noticed, once I had my radio updated to 2.3 I did a back up of my SD files then deleted them and installed the new updated files as shown in the other vid. Then I simply copied my old models file over into the new models file and I didn't have to set them up again. Obviously still needed to bind again but at least I had my original models.
Crossfire now appears in my new TOOLS folder and can be accessed and played with now.
You are a legend Mr B.
You’re the man for passing this along. Thanks so much
My goodness, Mr. Bardwell! I think I've watched ~24hrs of your videos in the past week or so. Thank you for you knowledge!
Tracer stuff is currently in the mail, this will be super useful as someone who hasn't used external modules before, thank you!
Love your tutorial videos. I’m new to FPV but not to drones so I’m so grateful for your videos because you have such a natural teaching ability and thanks for sharing your knowledge Joshua!!
Haven't even watched this yet and am so glad it came up.
If only this came out a month ago!! I got CRSF for Christmas and couldn't find an up to date or complete setup. THANK YOU!!
I just saved this to my email I think I am ready for update to crossfire. Had the module for about 2 years and now I'm ready to step up my fpv game.
ei Josh, just an incredible thank you for all the hard work and all the content that you make for us. I would never be the pilot I am today without your knowledge, thank you.
Love my Tracer! Never felt so connected to my quad...
No failsafes or what?
@@Vizr no issues at all
@@gmivisualsjason3729 Are you running the day 1 firmware or the latest TBS releases?
@@Vizr both.. no issues at all
I agree. It makes your rates feel higher too which is interesting. I got my first fail safe today but it was intentional. I put tracer in 25mw mode and flew to a bad spot and pointed in the TX and Antenna in the worst orientation. I then changed it to 100mw and couldn’t get it to fail safe again. It will out fly DJI video in 100mw even with patch antennas.
And just when I thought you taught me every thing there is to know about crossfire already :)
You teach us more useful tidbits . Thanks Joshua
Life saver! Just got my first quad ever, it has crossfire installed. This video helps SO MUCH with my anxiety :D
Don't have TBS, but enjoy the tutorials, always....I'm on the old R9M, works for me...lol.🤔🤔🇬🇧
Your a GENUIS Josh! I spent over 2 days working this out. When ALL over Google images of the NANO showed the RX and TX the other way around. Your the man!
Joshua thank you for this instructional video. Got my TBS Tracer and receiver up and running thanks to you and this video. Thank for everything you do for the community making it possible for everyone to join. Thank you en keep on ripping 😄💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 kind greetings from Belgium🇧🇪
I use XM+, RXSR, and R9 on my quads. I switched to Tracer and I'm very satisfied with the performance. I'm pretty confident that I'm sticking with Tracer for a while. I did the update for ludicrous power mode, I can tell that the range is better. Can't wait to do some range testing on ludicrous power mode. I've never used Crossfire but plan to do a LR build with Crossfire. I do use their mini VTX's and antennas in my quads. Really like what TBS puts out.
Crossfire Nano RX - careful not to break off the 0402 10uf capacitor next to the LEDs, too many people have accidentally broken that off when removing heatshrink to put it on another craft etc.. Part of the reason I designed Thingiverse 4731250 a reusable folding holder for the Nano, in plain, 20x20 mount, 30x30 mount and versions with holes for zip ties.
I'm working on a version for the Ghost Atto receiver next.

Did I miss Smart Audio? When I used it, binding through TBS Agent-X give me reassuring information about what was going on and displayed informative progress bars.:)
Perfect timing! My Crossfire Micro arrives tomorrow. If only my Hexplorer would get here sooner!
How’re you liking the hexplorer? Would you buy it again?
It’s a fun little cruiser, but I’ve been super disappointed by the analog video transmitter. Other than that it’s been awesome! I love the long buttery life.
Fantastic video, Joshua! Thanks a lot! 😃
I'm saving this video in my references playlist. 😬
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
can't wait to go out tomorrow and fly my first packs with tracer!
Thanks JB, took the leap into Crossfire, you saved quite the headache today, lots of old info out there, especially with the Qx7. A valuable resource of info running through that sweed of yours sir, nice one. I believe all is up and running, my Taranis appears to be happy,as does my CF module pulsing amber!
Next up, a rewatch of receiver install anf setup..and lq etc etc haha.
Onwards and Upwards!
Appreciated man. 👌🏼
Omg thank you so much for this video. I'm brand new to crossfire and have been looking at videos for two days now trying to get my new babyhawk HD up.(also my first digital) I was getting really frustrated so I went step by step just as you explained....I'll be back later, I gotta go fly.
TBS tracer, TBS crossfire, which one is better? doesn't matter, that's not what this video is about!😂 Thanks, Joshua for that lovely intro!
Just used this video to replace frsky r9 to crossfire, massively helpful JB!!!
I have Flysky nirvana and I was waiting for them to release firmware to support tracer. Didn't realize it's the same protocol with the radio as crossfire. Thanks for clarifying that! Looking forward to flying with it
Thanks Bardwell! Finally getting into CRSF and this really helps!
CRSF Nano Diversity does not have diversity antennas it has diversity receive. Literally two radio receivers on the same PCB which has greater receive performance than just two antennas.
I needed this video! Impeccable timing Mr. Bardwell
Also, if you’re not getting power to your module you may have to enable it under the settings on that model. I believe it’s called PPM
i swear this guy blazes it
Hi Joshua, just got my first crossfire setup going! Great video!
Thank you for this guide! Just switched to the TX16S with tracer and this video was extremely helpful.
Awesome video! Thanks! Just got the Radiomaster TX16s with crossfire. This video will be a big help when I set everything up in a few weeks.
Great video, I've been trying to add GPS display on my TX16S , with TBS Nano receiver. my telemetry is not showing GPS coordinates and main on board battery readings. What do I do to get the data to display? I have the Matek F-405 Wing FC on my AR wing.
tbs agentx lite - now runs as a lua on your radio... its really awesome
@ITS FPV if i install the tbs agentx lite on my radio, does that mean i dont need to copy lua script then add then on my radio?
@@DzysKris3892 yep, it can replace the old crossfire LUA. Agentx is far more reliable than the old LUA.
I just want to say thank you for your hard work.
Excellent video as always. Very usefull to know about 8CH instead of 12CH and about 50Hz vs 150Hz and also about Dyn. Power. Thanks a lot Joshua
Someday I might remember how to setup my stuff. But until then, Thanks Josh
Tracer is next on my shopping list. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you for making this video. It really helped me set up crossfire.
Got tracer for Christmas and was wondering how to set it up on Flysky nirvana. Thought I would have to wait for them to release an update to support tracer. Glad to see that it's the old CRSF protocol with the radio, so I don't need any update.
You are a legend!,thanks for this tutorial,as a relative newbie,it helped loads setting up micro tx on my tx12,allthough now Ive got to get the lua scripts on the radio as the only tools option is spectrum ints 🤘🏻
Something people fail to mention is that if you are using an AUX switch assigned to a channel beyond Channel 8, you have to go the CSFR LUA > Nano TX and change the channel mode from 8 to 12. I assigned my turtle mode switch to channel 9 and it took me 45 minutes to find that this was a necessary step. I don't think it's even mentioned in the TBS Guide and I wasn't even aware that setting existed. Before crossfire and I was learned that I had to increase the number of channels to adjust for the AUX switch assigned to channel 9. But I had no idea that it had to be done for the crossfire RX.
Wow, this is the exact info I've been looking for. When I go into 'Tools', then 'Crossfire Configure', I don't have an XF Nano RX option...? It only lists Micro TX & XF Wifi. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
👍👍 Nice!!! Impeccable timing my dude! The knowledge bomba thusly dropped shall have a high yield of usefulness for me very very soon. Not to mention I will be hoarding those race wires from RDQ too. Almost there. 🤘😁
Bardwell you have done it again
Thank you for this!! Perfect timing!! Just bought a crossfire starter set!!
exactly what I was weighing up this morning
You are the man Bardwell big hello from the Uk keep the videos coming, really interested in Protek 35 - Crossfire nano though just started watch this video so hoping this will help, should have said can you look a doing a full set up Protek 35 + Crrossfire Nano + TBS Tango 2 Pro + DJI air unit + DJI Googles V2
If, for some reason, you changed your region randomly, like me, and want to reset, you gotta press module button rapidly 12 times. Im not sure if that resets region always (I mean, if you are in main menu or in any other menu, rather then region selection) but it definitely resets it to "open" once you are in region selection screen 👌
I've been watching your videos for the last month, and I've learnt so much. I bought all the components for a nice FPV quad and I'm having so much fun.

Hey Joshua, thanks a lot for the video. Great as always.
Was wondering when you will drop the review of the tracer module ?
Nice work Josh. Very detailed.
Was that a soldering iron? XD I, too, do enjoy the taste of lead in the morning.
Like always, this is a great Video. Thank you.
Already subbed, I know you made it out, and you are a nut. Thank you for your videos.
24:04 it should be mentioned because the TBS Crossfire manual doesn't tell you how to do it, but if flying in 150hz (Force150) you can only use it at 25mW or 100mW. 150hz low latency mode for racing for instance won't work in 10mW, 500mW, 1W, or 2W depending on your module. The light will change to either a blue color (25mW) or to a tourquoise color (100mW).
I will check that but I'm pretty sure that's not how mine works.
Joshua thanks for this tutorial. Love it your the best around brother 👍
Joshua Bardwell please make video how it work nano diversity backup battery
So glad you mentioned that about the TBS diversity output mapping. Thought I fried it or something.
When you said tbs crossfire nano diversity I literally lost my shit. I've been trying to get this receiver working for the longest.
The LED's on my micro TX failed (it's old). So being able to use the tbs agent X makes it nice to see the update progress bar and other info that the lights would have given me
People may not realize that the RX binds to the TX. So if your TX is EXTernal you can move the TX to another controller and your RX will still be bound to it. I can put my Crossfire TX in a TX16S and then move the TX to my Horus X10s and my Drone will still work just as well there. I have done it. I copied my models so they are on both controllers. Also, I find it much easier to bind and update firmware (TX and RX) with TX connected by itself via USB to the computer. Why use a 'Lite' version when you can get the full blown version on the computer. The computer also performs the job faster. Note: If you use your controllers INTernal RF then you can't do the swap. Which is why I always use EXT RF modules.
Can you show how smart audio works between RX and VTX.
12:38 I knew it, he's fu**ing wizard!
Hi Joshua, I hope you can answer me this question: What is the point of having a super low latency on the controls side like with TBS Tracer when you have a much higher latency on the FPV Video signal especially with the DJI HD video?
You still have a faster response. From the moment you see an obstacle till the quad responds there are 3 factors. The latency of the video signal, the latency of the pilot reacting and the latency from the radio to the quad. If you can improve one it still improves the overall resonse time even if the video is still slower.
Fairly cool thing you can do with your extra receiver channels is connect a SmartAudio VTX to control it with your radio.
Thanks Joshua - you're the best!
Ive been setting up Tracer all day with problems and glad to see this video. Yes I too got the Rx and Tx reversed on the receiver. I did all the updates on my Taranis and the Tx module but im running Flightone and still having trouble. Im getting communication from my Taranis to the Rx, but no comm. to the FC. Ive setup CRSF protocol in the FC. My question is, CRSF is not an inverted signal like SBUS right? Ive come from a FrSky X4R.
Hi Joshua, great and very helpful video! Is the TX16S capable of outputting up to 1W or could this damage the radio if you,do this for too long?
I just noticed the soldering iron in his mouth in the thumbnail🤣🤣
Just now i ordered the crossfire module
You might borrow spectrum analyzer and check bandwidth used by 8 ch and 12 ch setup. Either bandwidth or refresh rate must change to send more data.
Is it worth mentioning that to get the best out of Tracer and Crossfire you need to be running CrossfireSHOT? Which is still only available on an OpenTX TBS nightly build. I think without it you aren't even getting the benefit of Tracer's low latency.
damn, thanks for this info.
Josh I have two idols Tom Brady and you.. I recently got the radio master tx16s Max, but again I'm new to FPV and again all my knowledge has come from your videos. I was wondering is the Tbs micro tx v2 master fire combo just for better signal for longer range, or does it help latency? especially if I'm going to be doing the digi adapter with Tbs module. Because i don't have the money to walk before I crawl. So that being said if i don't leave my property would this be something I should consider. Or rather what is the exact purpose of the add on?
Thanks for all your videos! I’ve watched and followed this multiple times along with other guides. I’m having failsafes at couple hundred ft. Best result was about .5 mile at failsafe. Tried everything besides taking it off 915mh. Tried new rx. New immortal t antennas. Moving rx and antenna to different spots incase interference. What could I be missing? About to go back to frsky
The front arms of that quad looks like you shear your sheep with your quad… 😂
At 22:22 are you talking about crossfire 900mHz vs Tracer that uses 2.4? In other words if I have Tracer selected will I have to change it from 900 to 2.4?
Also, do I have to use both antennas or if I use only one micro T will the Rx board fry if the second one is not connected? May use Tracer on a tiny quad - limited space for two T antennas.
Great timing as usual JB, my Tracer unit for the 16max showed up today.
Regards Very good , your videos I have a taranis X lite and I bought the crossfire nano with its receiver but my taranis does I do not see the crossfire option in the protocol section, could you give me some advice with that, thanks
You need to flash the open version of OpenTX from the opentx web site. Links are in the video description. FrSky ships a nerfed version of OpenTX that does not have Crossfire in it.
Great vid JB, Love your work ;)
excellent video and if I would like a more detailed video about dji and LQ and channels from 8 to 12 and that confuses me a bit, a video about it would be great, thanks and excellent information
Bind through agent x is always a sure fire way and easiest imo
I just got the TBS tango 2 radio and antenna module. I am replacing frsky on my cinewhoop. Would I just take out the frsky wires and solder the wires from the crossfire in the same spot?
different day, different shirt, different beard.
Same FPVKnowitall 😁
Great useful video keep em coming!
Notice the "My VTX" in here at 13:15 😁👍
What would the FPV community do withough JB!!! You are godsent! Thanks for all your hard work mr. Bardwell.
I love love straight forward video 📹
Following along at home trying to update taranis X9d in open TX and get error at the read write stage. I remember this was a huge pain in the ass the first time I updated radio, it took me days.
I have Tracer already working on version 5.04 so I guess I will just not do the radio update. I dont get Crossfire showing up in the LUA but whatever. It works......
I’m disappointed that you didn’t mention that Tracer and Crossfire can output smart audio on Channel 4. I just learned about MyVtx and it blows my mind. I’m rewriting all my quads to bypass the FC.
I will be doing a separate video about myVTX.
Joshua gracias por tus videos muy bien explicado y la traducción me sirvió mucho un abrazo desde Carolina del Norte
Crossfire yea. Great video jb
Great Video!!! So helpful! Thanks
Very good video, thank you for the guide
Hi, I haven't watched the video til the end but wondered if you mention the migrating part from crossfire to tracer. How easy is it to replace your XF receivers by tracer switch module, bind and voilà or do you have tons of other stuff to setup?
Are you gonna review the new jumper t lite? It may be what gets me in the air again thanks jb
Thank you a lot , you made my life easy.
