The most comprehensive instructions for Betaflight I have been able to find. INAV users will also benifit as many features are similar. Bardwell does not presume previous knowlege so his videos are beginner friendly, yet he covers very advanced topics. I feel like I'm making the transition from dji drones to real acro quads at the right time. I've been taking a little from all the RUclipsrs explaining Betaflight and no one has talked it in my language yet until now. This series will be a hit for sure. Can't wait for the other videos.
A friend of mine and his son are just entering the world of fpv quad building/flying and video series like these are an incredibly important resource, thank you for putting together this series. Betaflight, EdgeTX, BLHeli, etc are all pretty daunting to newbies and tutorials and video manuals like this are what's going to keep this hobby growing.
@@flat-earther they are firmware/software for other devices used in fpv quad building. EdgeTX is for radio transmitters and BLHeli is for ESCs. Also ELRS for radio receivers and so on.

I love this series so far JB!! With the first one you helped me get my first build loaded up with 4.3!! I've watched your channel for over a year now and just finished my first build a few days ago. I was a little bummed cuzz I couldn't get my brand new FC in boot- loader mode. After watching your vid, I realized I wasn't putting it in boot for the driver fixer, which finally worked and now I've been ripping up the beach and diving hotels with my first build and can't believe how good it flies! Thanks for everything you do! Thanks to your channel and your discord I can now say I've built my own quad!! Itsblunty has been supper helpful on discord too!

This video has and still is working miricals for me. I can now understand what my quad is telling me which allows me to make necessary changes/adjustments during my flights. It's also made flying more fun because it allows me to be even more engaged during my long-range flights. I'm not just alone for the flight but flying which makes it even more enjoyable. so I'm new to fpv and only been flying for a few months now and this video just helped me out so much because I was having trouble getting my firmware to flash over. I thought I bet Bardwell will have a video on it and boom. That impulse rc fixed me right up
I think you forgot the Adjustments tab in this tutorial, it's changed in 4.3 and pretty vague guidance from anyone else I could find discussing it. I finally found a video you made on it in 2019 that cleared things up for me.

Just thought I would say that watching your videos is not just educational and informative but fun and entertaining to watch. Could be your voice or tempo of your speech, not sure what but it seems to work for me! I am a fresh off of the boat newbie that has an engineering degree and decades of experience in RC with helis and RC cars, etc, yet I have to admit I have struggled to get some things working... what can I say. The FPV quad market is quite different than RC cars, planes, even helis, it seems as there is much more to these things which is ok but wow, not easy for someone just starting out! f you get a quad, radio, goggles, etc I have found so far that the item likely will not come with any instructions which forces you to hit the web to find the answers and that is not always as straight forward as it should be. Often I have found that the manufacturers own websites are missing data or are behind in revisions have instructions that are not helpful or simply don't have any info available at all further adding to the confusion and difficulty getting your quad in the air. It is awesome to have someone like you with your ton's of knowledge and excellent ability to inform and instruct and I do appreciate it and I have purchased a few of my items with your affiliate links, they ar going to the places I plan to buy from anyway so it is all good.

Brilliant Series! Only the comfort of having quads that fly to my satisfaction and laziness holds me back from plugging in the flight controller from an ill fated iFlight CineBee to start the process of bringing it back to life. All I need is a few rainy days to get started ... 😷

Thank goodness for a real 'save backup' button in betaflight for the cli! Awesome overview, worth just listening to even for long time betaflight users. I wondered about the magnetometer button, and for some reason I missed the 'options' section to permanently enable expert mode. Got that set now!

Hi, joshua I'm noobie but I just experiment with quad FC, to make it work with airplane type and one problem is that after remapping motor doesn't work,so I was remapping it with servo output 😂and it works but there is a twist without arm it will start with throttle input. I know it's a bypass but it works with Rc throttle 07 source I'd. 🎉 This knowledge we get from your channel so it's huge thanks 👍😅😅

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks a million for all the vids you make man. With your help and the advice from a guy who happened to be flying near my place I was able to get my only drone back in the air after weeks of being down. I felt like a dumbass for not knowing I had to check motor direction after swaping one but newbie is as newbie does 😅. Much appreciated

For Linux guys - you will need to do two things. 1. Make sure your user is in a group that allows full control access to serial ports. Typically it will be called something along the lines of "serial", "modem", or "dialout". You can discover this by running "ls -l /dev/ttyS*" - and see what group those devices are assigned to. 2. Make sure you have the dfu-util package installed. Use your Linux flavor package manager software. If the correct package is installed, you should have a utility in your path called "dfu-tool"
Great stuff. Can I set up a monocopter with one motor and one servo? Servo is on a Hiller flap. Using a F3 or F4 FC. Magnetometer is the sensor of interest.
Man super awesome video sir! Bought a Nazgul 5 v2 a year ago and still haven't flown it yet because of trying to figure out this beta flight stuff....lol
I initially got so excited knowing that JB was going to take this in baby steps for me and I was finally going to be able to update some firmware on my flywoo f722… evidently I got excited too soon. It’s looking like the old firmware remains for now. 1, there’s no bootload button, following other instructions I simply used Impulse RC to circumvent the issue. I’ve now received a “unexpected multiple flight controller” error. Another frustrating 8 hours has come and gone… I’ll be waiting on the next series that hopefully fixes what I cannot
5: 10 After these years I never got charge only cable with my phone, that few I got was with some power bank or bought later from 3rd party, in thought is also a data cable.
OMG Thank you so much! This helped me restore lost gyro functionality after i accidentally hit 'reset settings' on the main screen. This software is not for the complete novice HAHAHA
Hi JB, this series of videos is a great idea!! I know just enough about BF to get my drone in the air, but I would really love to understand how I can use BF to tweak the drone to get best flight performance and display most useful info in my OSD.
Your videoes are great, the help you provide is so awesome. So i do have a question, should the FC be hooked up and firmware flashed as soon as i get my FC? Or after ive put the drone together?
On some flight controllers, GPS won't show in the sensor indicators unless the battery is plugged in. I'm pretty sure than can be true for compass as well.
I've spent weeks trying to figure out why Betaflight doesn't show my FC in DFU mode but it shows up in FS mode. After trying tens of usb cables, 3 different computers, android phone I finally thought to try the oldest USB port I could find on my PC. USB 2 and bam instantly detected and I can finally flash my damn FC. Now I can actually follow this video completely lol

You probably should have shown to save if you have a bnf because noobs might have flashed their quad and now it’s bricked and they are not going to like that to much.. js I always go to your videos 1st great job at helping us out 🤙🏼

It's spelled I²C because it's a square (²). Given it's also known as IIC (Inter-Integrated Circuit); now the square starts to make sense.

For anyone getting the cannot detect port during flashing just install the IRC driver fixer and scan. Worked a dream

Hi JB, this series of videos is a great idea!! I know just enough about BF to get my drone in the air, but I would really love to understand how I can use BF to tweak the drone to get best flight performance and display most useful info in my OSD.

On some flight controllers, GPS won't show in the sensor indicators unless the battery is plugged in. I'm pretty sure than can be true for compass as well.
Good point! If the peripheral isn't powered up, it can't communicate!
I've spent weeks trying to figure out why Betaflight doesn't show my FC in DFU mode but it shows up in FS mode.
After trying tens of usb cables, 3 different computers, android phone I finally thought to try the oldest USB port I could find on my PC. USB 2 and bam instantly detected and I can finally flash my damn FC. Now I can actually follow this video completely lol
