I saw Davidson do a "tight-five" at the first San Francisco Clusterfest - Two minutes in to his set and two people in the Second Row stood up to leave - and instead of the Row of people moving to allow them to leave - THE ENTIRE ROW of people just left - that set off a Chain Reaction and a good 50% of the audience just up and left. Quite possibly the funniest thing I've seen Davison involved in.

Pete was probably so stoned he didn’t realize how bad it was affecting his performance, and Louie was probably trying to give him some tough love and say, hey you are on snl, treat it like a job and don’t be too stoned to work.
He was 100% right too. He’s so awkward and stupid. If he wasn’t an industry plant, and jewish, he’d never have seen this kind of success.

SNL has a long history of people on drugs being very successful. Including the tradition of all the writers doing coke and staying up all nite on like friday or something. whatever day it was set on, they had a weekly ritual like that for years maybe decades. maybe louis should have shut the fuck up. just because he cant handle his drugs that doesnt mean nobody else can.

This is total speculation, but the Louis CK bit doesn't sound like something Louis would say based on his interviews and podcasts, even during his heyday. More likely Louis said something meant to be supportive and concerned about a younger comic smoking so much before going on live TV, and Petes paranoid, pot-addled brain interpreted it as an attack. What strikes me as cowardly about this bit is that there is no way Pete Davidson would be opening with it if Louis hadn't already been 'me-Too'd'. The fact that the 'punch line' is about Louis getting torn down by something unrelated to Pete 5 years later or whatever is cringy and makes Pete seem like a overly-sensitive maladjusted teenager.

that kind of depends on how accurate davidson's portrayal of the situation actually was; if true then he's entitled to be bitter and petty about it. although that definitely sounds way too malicious to have been louis' real mo, i mean obvs i don't know him personally but he seems like a genuinely very good guy on podcasts, like almost annoyingly so in some instances- unless louis became a completely different person in the last 10 years.

I argue it's much more sensitive to be a comedian and NOT crack jokes at another legendary comedian being an absolute degenerate pervert. That's hilarious, how do you figure Pete or any comedian should not touch it because what? Because it has nothing to do with him? You have to have some self awareness and see how sensitive this comment is. I don't even like Pete Davidson. Troy Bond is a million times funnier, but this comment caught me off guard with the pure unaware irony.
I think Louie definitely had moments of being a pretentious dickhead in the height of his career. Doesn't change how much I love his work. And now he's settled into a nice self aware grandpa Louie role which has been great
The Douche Chills were insurmountable during Davidson's first Netflix special. I didn't go back for the next one, but I appreciate Beige's sacrifice since he did what many of us would/could not.

Ironic that Pete thought he won that battle with CK.. after this special came out i think it became obvious that Pete did in fact “smoke his career away” or maybe more accurate “smoked his funny away”..
So true. His friendship with MGK was weird, in like 2019-2021 Pete was heavy into drugs and partying and got like 100 tattoos in that time-span. Now he is getting them removed....he got swept up in the Hollywood scene for sure....despite only staying in the lime light due to his relationships - not for his comedy - he is given a lot of opportunities in the entertainment industry....it's so strange!

I don't know. His first special, SMD showed that he had promise as a comic. I didn't talk about it hear because it was from when he was only 23, but it's not bad at all.

You can criticise the joke all you like, but come on lets not start with the 'um acktually' crap, because we all know that no comedian worth their salt will ever let the truth get in the way of a good joke. Bin Laden is immediately recognisable; I doubt you could name even a single hijacker without googling it.

The thing that annoyed me about the Louis CK / weed story is that he seems to think it's a given that he should be able to smoke weed AT WORK! I know he's not a surgeon or a pilot or whatever, but how much of an entitled, coddled, celebrity brat do you have to be to think you have a right to go to work, stoned. Most of us don't have that choice, mate. Also, he said he was smoking his career away, so clearly it's come from a place of concern, but his head is so far far up his arse he can't see that.
7:49 definitely deliberate. People liked how easy Pete broke character when he was on SNL, endearing him to viewers. I think it’s an example of one of the many problems of SNL, where it’s just a parasocial thing of watching your favs hang out and have fun and not actually comedy. BTW the Shane Gillis episode is completely guilty of this so don’t think you’re immune if you’re not a soy facing lib.

I haven’t been able to find it since before the lockdowns but there was a 20 minute long video of Pete getting heckled by the audience for getting onstage crazy late then throwing a hissy fit and telling the audience how lucky they are to see him live. It was so bad I thought at first it was a bit and he was trolling. But nope be really thinks he’s comedy gold 😵💫

I think I’ve finally pinned down what Pete’s schtick is. It’s the “awkward jew” routine, but with a modern twist… and that’s it.
I feel like it’s such a successful schtick to go for, because when established comedians of “that variety” make another one successful for doing that, it also validates themselves in the process.
It tricks people into thinking it’s ever been funny, and that it still is, and the cycle just continues.
I appreciate you being fair and giving him his flowers for the second special. The first one seems absolutely wild that it was filmed, edited, and released without anyone pointing out the glaring issues.

Chris is funny on podcasts but his special was mind blowingly shit.
he covers two specials in the video; the ck bit was in the first special, which he said was terrible. then he said the second special fixed all the problems of the first, and was actually quite good.
That’s cool that Pete Davidson is your favorite comedian of all time. It’s fun to do videos about your heroes and role models.
I love that Pete’s career and in turn your video broke the mold on this one. I find it funny and somewhat cathartic to watch someone’s failures, but the feeling of being proud of someone and their improvement is a much more fulfilling experience. It’s one thing to make people laugh, it’s another to make people smile
I didn’t get cringe from this but I distinctly remember thinking it felt more like a press conference or IG post about crap you have going on in your life as a C list celebrity. Everything was awkward, underdeveloped, and stumbled through.
