I took Taylor's standup comedy class at UCLA in the 80s. He gave me the confidence to go up my first time at a Mexican restaurant's comedy night; and he got me my first showcase at the Hollywood Improv. He was a mentor. He will be missed. RIP.
My sister and I first heard back in the 70s. When he said “Area rug,” we laughed ourselves silly. I never hear the words, area rug, without thinking of him.
Rest in peace, Mr. Negron. For reasons I cannot fathom it was this little scene from this rather largely forgotten movie that I first recalled upon hearing of your demise. Your singular and versatile talent will never be forgotten.
I dated Taylor briefly.. he was so authentic, articulate and cerebral. He was gifted and genuine. He didn't just take up space.. he lived in it. What a blessing to have known him.
When I think of Taylor Negron, this bit is what comes to mind first. Also, when carpet shopping recently, he and this bit went through my mind. Taylor Negron, gone but never forgotten.
First joke I ever heard from Taylor Negron that slayed me, so it'll always stay in my mind. Had the pleasure to meet him years later. #RIPtaylornegron. You contributed to the world.
I know, huh? No one I know has ever seen this movie. So I look like a total moron when I ask the employees at Home Depot (in Taylor Negron's voice) where the "area rugs"? But hey, I crack myself up.
I had to show this to my kids! My late husband and I imitated Taylor all these years, and the kids hadn't seen where we got it from. Thank you YOU TUBE! RIP Taylor, you never be forgotten!
My most vivid memory of him is his portrayal of Julio in Easy Money. He made that character such a low-life unpleasant greaseball. Under the radar but nevertheless a great comedic talent. RIP.
onjoFilms It only took a day for a genius to reply, smh. I was on Mobile, it won't play on mobile. I'm sure you feel smarter now, and life is justified

My first stand up was at a Mexican restaurant. I may have lost to you .

Rebecca Hamilton me too. But i couldn't remember where it was from. Had to googl "area rug on a funny accent" FINALLY!
Must be a sister thing. Mine used to say this all the time
Absolutely true. I think off I’m any time someone mentions area or rug!
Same, exact I can never hear Slacks the same way!
I'm the same way! It came to mind as I thought about future decorating ideas and I just had to look it up!
My late uncle ALWAYS imitated this bit... I saw it tonight (first time, EVER) and smiled with glee. :D

Died way too young for such a talent...

Taylor Negron, gone but never forgotten.
I quote this all the time and so far exactly zero people have caught the reference.

"I know, huh" You must be from NM?
I remember my parents laughing about this scene and doing impressions of it throughout the 80s. Such nostalgia.
i saw he died, and this is what came to mind. i have remembered this forever. still made me laugh.
Probably the funniest part of "Punchline." This still makes me LOL to this day. RIP, Taylor Negron.
First thing I thought of when I heard he died. R.I.P.
Me too. To this day, my husband and I say AREA RUG like this!
Me too. He was actually funnier than Hanks in the film, but of course Hanks and Sally were the stars, so... R.I.P. Taylor
+RikMayall's Bird That and Fahabra's La Habra Dahdge! I can't pass a Dodge dealership without thinking it.

RIP my man. I loved you in this movie.
Oh you can't be gone! I love your comedy! Hope to meet you on the other side.
He will be missed.
his joke is arguably funnier than every single joke told by the protagonist here
I love his accent when he says in surf-talk, "complete and total loser." It's so funny! I wish I could find the video.
Thinking of you Taylor! ❤️😔
I came here because of Double Switch, which Negron had a small part in. I left laughing, in tears.
RIP

Taylor Negron RIP
Why is this not playable?
You have to hit the 'play' button. Looks like an arrow pointing to the right. But it's on the left. Got it?
onjoFilms It only took a day for a genius to reply, smh. I was on Mobile, it won't play on mobile. I'm sure you feel smarter now, and life is justified
Yes, to both.
onjoFilms Great, loser, now, back to your Playstation
I'm not on my playstation, I'm on your mom.
Ahh... the casual racism of the 1980s.
