    The build quality is such a massive pro here. I’m so glad you called out the monitor shake when typing!! It bugs me so much and the build quality was the main reason I got the Studio Display. I just use it for basic productivity workflows and it’s so premium, crisp, and seamless. When I spend 10+ hours/day on it, quality is critical, and I haven’t looked back!

    When I clicked on the video I thought it said 889k subscribers, and when I went back to click the like button, that felt about right... then I saw it was 889. You will end up with so much more! Such a great video, awesome perspective on the Studio Display, thank you! And now it's 890!

    Great review man! One little correction: The MacBook Pros don't use OLED. They use MiniLED displays. This is basically a kicked up version of what's in the Pro Display XDR. They currently only use OLED in the iPhone and Apple Watch. Just thought I'd point that out. ;) Keep it up man!

    Great video, but the MacBook pros are not OLED, they're LED displays with local dimming zones. Same for the Pro Display XDR. If those displays were using OLED tech, they would cost 3x the price

    I'm not gonna lie bro, I just subbed to you. You understand this stuff. That's why you the GOAT. Yeah, all these people on here talking about buying this monitor and that, but that's for them. We gotta do whatever editing we're planning on doing, whether it's video editing, audio editing, etc. For the people, because the people won't have these screens and stuff. You want to make it look good on their end, not just ours. Man, that is a pro tip I love you for that brother.

    First one I got had some noticeable light leak in the upper middle edge and the speakers sounded very harsh on the higher frequencies. I boxed it up and returned it. Waited a couple days to decide whether to waste my time getting another one...Since they were still 1350 at Costco, decided to roll again. The second one has no light leakage and very uniform screen, calibration out of the box looked great and the speakers sound very good and well balanced. I'm very happy now but wow, very different experience between them.

    I agree. I have the two Studio Display setup too and they're great monitors.
    My issues were the webcam, lack of daisy chain ability, and lack of stereo support. I'd love it if my Mac Studio recognized that I had two Studio Displays and gave the option for stereo sound.

    • @spyharpy
      @spyharpy Год назад +2

      Although I don't have a pair of these displays as of yet, I read in other comments to go to the Audio (MIDI) setup and there will be an option to add the other display to play stereo. Comment didn't mention what OS version was being used but it was within a year since this video was made. Hope someone can test and update here if this does indeed work or not.

    I will use the recording studio monitors comparision… Studio Display is like monitors with very hi-fi, boost bass characteristics. It’s great for some pro work and serves well as a reference display. But at the same time it gives you picture that’s too polished to be used in serious graphic design work. For something like NS-10 experience in displays I go all the way with Eizo. So in theory the perfect Mac setup would be Studio Display for everyday use and something like Eizo CG 2709s for graphic design and coloring work.

    I am a fellow youtuber and a Apple product fan. I am thinking on buying the Mac Studio Display. Your video helped me a lot. What I am concern is the fact that it has no power on or off button.
    This said thank you for the video. Great review - I love the display too. And your presentation and style are A+. Only disagreement (and everything is relative) is that the camera IMHO is excellent (firmware update?), but that is by comparison to the iMac 27 (Late 2015) this replaced (along with a blazing fast new MacBook Pro M3 Pro 1T). Subscribed - looking forward to more reviews!

If you're still using the ASP's, you can get a few different docks that will handle both monitors with only one thunderbolt port being used from the laptop. I got the CalDigit TS4 and it's great, a bit pricy but it has a ton of function.

    Love your review. I love my Studio Display. The Camera is adequate. Not great, but it's better than the built in camera in my 2019 MBP i9, and I'd rather not throw a 3rd party camera up there. Maybe I'll try the continuity camera if I can find a mount. Lighting helps. I have some neewer lights in my setup, which really does help the image.
    The speakers are amazing. The Mic is darn good too, but I have a Blue Yeti here, so I use that.
    My only other nit, it should be easier to use 1) with a PC when you need to. (You can, but it's not straight forward, and that's on Apple) and 2) Need an ability to switch between Macs. (Unplugging and replugging is so old school ... it needs some sort of KVM type setup.).
    Overall, I'm happy. It's really good. Just not perfect.

    As an editor, many times producers would ask me how it would sound on a regular TV. I had small speakers, along with the JBL reference monitors. I would face the small speakers to the cabinet they were sitting on. Switch to them and play back the audio. Today, I think more people have better speakers in their homes or on their televisions now that we’re all HD but back in the NTSC world, people had really awful speakers on their TVs.
    I have looked at the monitors in the Apple Store. It will be my next monitor.

    I found this review to be very honest and genuine, and as a result super helpful. I was really bummed out about the quality of camera because the monitor literally checks all of the other boxes for me. However, I work remotely as an art director in an agency environment, so half of my day is spent on Zoom calls. I'm currently using a 27" Dell monitor attached to my MacBook Pro, with the Dell functioning as my main display directly in front of me, which is great for work flow EXCEPT when I'm in a meeting. I'm either using the built-in MacBook camera, which means I'm turning my head to look into camera or look like I'm not looking, which isn't the most professional. I tried adding a cheap webcam to my Dell monitor but I want a clean desk and hate how the camera looks on top of the monitor, not to mention how wide it looks on screen. Is the built-in camera really that bad? Any suggestions for what I can do instead?

    • @mendodsoregonbackroads6632
      @mendodsoregonbackroads6632 Год назад

      While the camera is not the best, it’s perfectly acceptable for FaceTime/Zoom calls. You know who cares about your zoom call picture quality? Exactly no one. Nobody cares as long as it doesn’t look like it’s coming from a phone with a layer of Vaseline over the camera, and the meeting isn’t too long. Th camera is just as good if not better than most of the zoom meeting cameras you’re looking at. Thankfully it’s built in to the monitor so at least you have something that isn’t taking up a port on the back. Really, I was looking at the footage from the camera in this video and it was definitely passable. If you need a pro camera setup for video production, get a pro video setup from Sony or Cannon or something.

    You forgot that because it's a 5K screen:
    1) A 5K screen (14.7 million pixels) has 77% more pixels than a 4K screen (8,294,400 million pixels), again adding to its far smoother appearance, especially when utilizing design apps like Illustrator, etc...
    2) It works perfectly with Mac OS's scaling of 2560 x 1440 (5K is 5120 × 2880), making it 'retina' i.e. way smoother than a 4K screen with is 3840 x 2160. Using a 4K screen on a Mac, because of the way Mac OS wants to scale, will essentially either: make the 4K screen 'best for scaled' in which everything looks too massive or if you set it to a scale that replicates the desktop size of Mac OS natively on 'retina' screens, it will actually utilize more GPU / CPU power, as the division doesn't equal non-fractional numbers... now that's fine if you have a powerful enough Mac, but just know that a good 3% to 5% of your computing power will be lost to MacOS having to work extra to make a non-retina display 'mimic' a 'retina' display.

    • @akyhne
      @akyhne 7 месяцев назад

      A few of your points are not valid.
      First of all, pixel count doesn't tell anything. Compared to a "4K", you get 20-25% higher resolution on the Studio monitors. That's the correct way to address the difference. Your eyes see PPI, not pixels. And even the PPI number is not telling the truth, as it takes the number from both vertical and horisontal. The %K displays 20-25&% better resolution and that's it!
      No one edit in 2K, so the point makes little sense. At least no professional do. And as for pros, they often work with 2,8K, 4,5K, 6K and so on.
      As for video editing, like in a professional setup, it should have been 4096x2160P and scaled up from there. So about 5461 x 2880, if my math is correct. Most reference monitors supports the full 4K resolution. And reference monitors gets around odd scalings, by simply using less of the screen, so on a 4096 x 2160 monitor, using the display as a video monitor, they simply only use that area of the screen.

    I've had two UltraFine 5Ks for a long while.. one consistent frustration is Mac can't seem to tell them apart, so when I reconnect, it's hit and miss which one it will select for my camera. I use one vertical, so this is extra silly. Have you seen that with your dual setup? Do they solve it? Can you tell which is which in all the system drop downs for selecting camera, speaker, mic?

    • @mikefolabi
      @mikefolabi  2 года назад +1

      That's one of the cool things I've noticed about these monitors. I have NEVER had the monitors get mixed up or not displayed properly. It doesn't matter which port I plug them into, they alway project exactly how I set them up. I found a way to name the monitors so when I use the cameras (which is basically never) I can click on camera Left or camera right.

      I have the same issue with my dual BenQ SW2700PT monitors. They will work fine and then all of a sudden flip the next time I connect. I’m strongly considering moving back to a single display and using my MBP as my secondary one and possible iPad as a third one.
      Problem is that I thought my BenQ’s would have a better resale, but a 5 year old 2K monitor with 99% Adobe RGB support is only worth around $200 each now. 😢

      I took the plunge and got a Studio Display and a Pro Display XDR. I just couldn't deal dropping down from "Retina" resolution for all the staring at type I do all day. And I really wanted larger/more space than 27". Also got fed up with the ghosting on my LG UltraFine, which I only notice now that I am in a very bright (lots of windows) environment and run at 100% brightness most of the day. So far so great. I mean, it better be, considering the $$$. My first two cars together cost less lolz.

    • @TerrapinSuite
      @TerrapinSuite Год назад

      I am curious as to your opinion of the XDR versus the Studio Display since you have the advantage of working with both. I have been considering either Dual Studio Displays or a single Pro Display XDR along with a new Mac Studio to upgrade from my 2018iMac Pro. Thank you!@@ambrose.little

    • @ambrose.little
      @ambrose.little Год назад

      @@TerrapinSuite Day to day work I don’t see a difference in quality between them. (I don’t do graphics/video.) I got the XDR as the 32” option with that high resolution. I run it vertically, and it’s great for coding-the extra space especially vertical is useful.
      So unless you need the extra space on one, personally don’t think it’s worth the extra $$ to get the XDR. YMMV.

    I don‘t understand why these are not capable for daisychain. Money is not a big deal for me, but 2 cables would not be an option for me. I don‘t want to feel like its 2014, when I used 2 DP cables to connect my MBP to 2 4K Dell displays and they were back then able to run MST via one cable (but Mac OS never supported it). I hated it so much, that I changed for an MBP 14 and now I need two cables again 😩
