  • Did you know wearable technology can transfer touch? In Episode 6 of The Concepts, we look at Wearable Experiments, a company that brings together fashion and haptic technology to recreate the feeling of touch for the wearer. Their projects include the Alert Shirt, which uses live game data to instantly transfer physical sensations from the players to the wearer, and the Navigate jacket which gives users directions through haptic feedback.

Few weeks earlier and I could at least have cited you guys in my PhD thesis. But then again, there are several similar projects that do wearable touch. Too few though; there I totally agree.

I think this kind of tech could be very dangerous, if it feel into the wrong hands.

I can see the value in having your "turn left, now turn right" ques be a tap on the shoulder instead of a voice or floating arrow, but the sports thing and the music thing don't seem to me to be worth a whole lot. A technical marvel to be able to integrate it with a garment to the point that you wouldn't know it was there unless you were using it, but I don't think it would much enhance the experience. The music thing might be good when you're using earphones, but when you're at a concert or rave you can already feel the music.

We already naturally do this, lets not turn everything into a technology and divide ourselves even further. I can see it as a good "demonstration of empathy" but if you alteady understand empathy why is this necessary? we're just going to weaken our empathy muscles, soon everything that isn't a technology will be considered a fantasy as if it doesn't exist!
