      I try to with the other role videos, but with the CM there's soooo many options for it, I opted to show more in depth each individual role or else the video would be 45 minutes long 🤣🤣. But thank you for the suggestion, I will keep the tactic example thing in mind as I continue working on future vidoes!
      If you're curious, my Defensive Tactic video uses a Central Midfielder (D) and my Anchor and Inverted Wingback uses a CM(A). In case you want some more case studies on the central midfielder!

    Amazing video. The CM is probably my favorite role. Something you don't mention is that the versatility of the role allows you to easily tweak the tactics midgame without compromising the structure. If you're down and want more bodies forward throw your CM on attack, if you're winning and want to be more conservative swap him to defend. In both cases the team's structure should remain roughly the same. That's something you can't easily get when swapping a Mezzala to a BWM for example.

    Awesome, you made the video about CMs! Very interesting. I've been exploring using this with weaker sides, using the flexibility to my advantage with decent, hard-working midfielders with good all-round mental and technical attributes, but not so great physically.
    Lately I've also accidentally been confronted with the BWM in central midfield, because I didn't look before I offered him a contract, and he demanded to play in that particular role in that position. Normally I would have never thought to put a BWM there, only in the DM slot (in a 4-3-3). And then another one who wanted to be a DLP in defensive midfield. I've been fiddling with this a bit, switching both of them between defend and support roles in their respective positions. Haven't entirely figured out the best system here yet, but there are some subtle things you can do with this. A BWM on support in central midfield can be very helpful with the pressing, although they tend to get a few cards too many for my liking.

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  Месяц назад +1

      I kinda like a midfield trio of a DLP in the DM slot and a BWM in the CM slot; gives a lot of freedom to do something for the other role. And I don't think there's a worse feeling than when you accidentally promise to play a player in their preferred role haha

    Another great role guide video, and love you wore a hat with the C of Central midfielder 😅
    It's a highly underrated role. While playmaker roles are quite common, opting for a central midfielder with specific instructions can sometimes be more effective, especially when they are marked by a superior opponent. Diversifying the strategies passed forward can be more beneficial in such situations. Also when under lots of pressure or in a direct passing system on high tempo always find it nicer to stay away from playmakers.

    Hello mate, I'm glad you're creating these basic videos for new players. Even experienced players like me have benefited from your insights into roles and understanding them better. However, I have a suggestion, or rather my friend's suggestion. He asked about a RUclips channel to learn this game, and I recommended yours. He pointed out something important for new players like him: showing gameplay in 3D because new players find it disconnected or unpleasing. While us old players prefer 2D for its simplicity and ease of understanding, new players lean towards 3D. Instead of showing actual 2D gameplay, could you demonstrate gameplay from the data analyst camera perspective, with the lowest camera height and highest zoom.

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  Месяц назад

      Now that's a suggestion!! Thanks for the recommendation first off! and I'll see if I can try to find a balance or happy medium/mixture of the two. I do love the idea of incorporating some more 3D stuff, especially transitioning into FM25.
      If you're curious from my point of view in terms of editing/capturing, I've experimented some with using the 3D view and the biggest issue is visibility. The 2D circles are color coded clearly not only against each other (home vs away), but they also stand out against the generally green color of the field. 2D circles also scale nicely to different resolutions and there's no "extra" stuff... all you see is the field and players.
      The biggest issue with using 3D models is visiblity. The 2D view only shows the field, meaning I can "punch in" to only clip exactly what I need. The 3D view has a modeled stadium in the shot as well, and it can be difficult to track exactly what I need. Meaning to show the shot of a center back hanging back, I have to show the entire field and zoom out, meaning it becomes harder to see the players, etc... (which can be an issue if watching the video on a phone).
      Anyway, all that to say I'm definitely down for doing some 3D video stuff, but just wanted to give you my perspective from the video editing side of things. Like most of my answers, that was probably way more than you wanted hahaha. But hopefully it helps!

    • @khemrajbudha7955
      @khemrajbudha7955 Месяц назад

      @@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Yeah, mate, we old ones and some new, tactically focused players want a 2D perspective, but normally newer guys want 3D. The game camera shows the ball action, so it can't display defender positions all the time, but 80-90% of the time, 3D could show what's needed. Anyway, I appreciate your work, mate.

    @hajones10 Месяц назад +2

    Another great video! Question for you - do player roles have hard-coded actions outside of the instructions? That is to say, if I gave a CM-D all the same player instructions as a DLP-D, would they play the same? Or is there something about DLP that would make the player still act more like a playmaker?

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  Месяц назад

      Yep! they have different hard coded instructions as well as playing differently. So even if you gave them the exact same instructions, they would play differently.
      For example, the DLP and CM(D) both have "hold position" for when the team is attacking but they don't hold their position the same. A CM(D) will sit in the midfield and be an outlet if needed, but a DLP will follow his teammates around to make himself available for a pass. If you're curious, I talk about this situation in my video on the Anchor.
      Some roles, like the DLP, also have "hidden" player instructions, which also influence their play. I mentioned it in this video, but the DLP is what's called a "focus role", meaning teammates will pass him the ball more. This can't be replicated by player instructions with other non-playmaking roles (like the CM).
      Hope that helps!

    This one made me think about the hard-coded instructions vs the manually implemented ones as you always mention.
    Did you get a chance to check how a CM-A with Move Into Channels trait or PI behaves compared to a MEZ-A?
    It doesn't have to mimic the Mez-A but having Move into Channels or I don't know, maybe even Stay Wider, have a very interesting attack pattern for CM-As.
    Also... Do you think it's better to have reverse footed players for Mez roles?
    Such as playing a right footed guy in the left side central midfield slot.

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  Месяц назад +1

      I haven't checked that PI yet, but now you've given me something to go watch!! I need to do a big player instruction deep dive video lol.
      With the Mezzala, my personal preference is to use a player's stronger foot on the same side he's on. So a Mezzala on the right side of the formation with a player who has a strong right foot. This way when he gets into the box, he can square it with his dominant foot.

Do you believe that in a 4-4-2 formation playing 2 CMs is a good pairing ? of course i dont base my 4-4-2 as a possesion tactic ! I consider player traits a lot and i put my players to learn new ones all the time so they can fit roles such as the CM so that they can do more than one job on the pitch plus i am obssesed with long shots from the CMs . Amazing video once again!

      CM's are fantastic in a 442, in fact, they're one of the better choices you could make. My only recommendation is that one of them be on the defend duty, at least to start. You saw in this video that he's still going to help out the team, but sit deeper to offer that protection. A support or attack will pair well, especially a CM(A) paired with a striker that drops deep (DLF, F9, etc...)
      And I love that you're paying attention to player traits, a great habit to have!

    What are the significant differences between a central midfielder and a roaming playmaker?

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  Месяц назад +1

      I'd say the CM is a more passive, neutral role. He won't roam from his position, meaning he won't be terribly exciting when attacking. Basically hangs out in the center midfield linking your defenders and your attackers.
      The RPM will go anywhere to win the ball. Even if he was placed in the center midfield, he'll go wherever. He's also a playmaker, meaning he has the focus role ability so teammates will pass him the ball more.
      The CM is also more friendly to tactics, and can play in pretty much any tactic or formation. The RPM needs more care, especially with player roles that are in the direct area of him. The RPM is much harder to get to work, but also has a higher ceiling of value they can bring to your team.

    Great as always. Big question: if you want to give freedom to the player is it better to leave him with no instructions or give him all the instructions fitting his traits?

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  Месяц назад

      My personal tactical preference is to give him instructions to fit his traits. This gives the role a tad less freedom but you're basically telling him "hey you know that thing you like to do? Go do that more"

      @@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I asked Ricky, who is my AI Football Manager Assistant Coach. Here is his opinion, he has a very good point, as always:
      Philosophical Dilemma: Role Instructions in Football Manager
      When deciding whether to leave a role without instructions or to match the instructions to a player's traits, consider the following factors:
      Player Autonomy vs. Tactical Structure:
      No Instructions (Player Autonomy): This approach allows players to utilize their creativity and play to their strengths naturally. It can be effective if you have highly intelligent players with good decision-making abilities.
      Matching Instructions to Traits: Aligning instructions with player traits can help maximize their effectiveness by guiding them towards behaviors they excel in. This ensures they are playing in a way that complements their natural tendencies.
      Role Neutrality:
      For roles like Fullback (FB), Wide Midfielder (WM), and Central Midfielder (CM), which are inherently flexible, the decision might depend on the player's versatility and adaptability.
      Considerations:
      Player Traits:
      Traits influence how a player behaves on the pitch. If a player has traits like "Likes to Dribble" or "Tries Killer Balls Often," giving them instructions that align with these traits can enhance their performance.
      Team Tactics:
      Consider how the player's natural style fits within your overall tactical setup. If your team strategy relies heavily on specific behaviors (e.g., overlapping fullbacks), you might want to guide players with appropriate instructions.
      Player Intelligence and Decision-Making:
      High intelligence and decision-making attributes allow players to adapt better when given autonomy. Conversely, players with lower decision-making might benefit from more structured guidance.
      Example Scenario:
      Fullback (FB):
      No Instructions: Allows the player to balance between defensive duties and supporting attacks based on the game situation.
      Instructions Matching Traits: If the player has "Gets Forward Whenever Possible," you can instruct them to "Run Wide with Ball" to complement their natural inclination.
      Wide Midfielder (WM):
      No Instructions: Lets the player decide when to cut inside, cross, or support the midfield.
      Instructions Matching Traits: If the player has "Cuts Inside from Both Wings," you can instruct them to "Cut Inside with Ball" to ensure they utilize their strength.
      Central Midfielder (CM):
      No Instructions: Allows for a balanced approach between attack and defense.
      Instructions Matching Traits: If the player has "Dictates Tempo," you can instruct them to "Hold Position" to control the game better.
      Conclusion:
      Both approaches have merits. Leaving a role without instructions can provide flexibility and creativity, while matching instructions to a player's traits can ensure they play to their strengths. The optimal choice depends on your tactical philosophy, the intelligence and decision-making of your players, and how their natural style fits within your team strategy.

    Shouldnt fm add a role like this for every position? i would really like the freedom i have with the CM for the wingers for example, or maybe even the full-backs, i think this would be very great but also it could kinda break the game.... But still, would love to make my costum wingers to play inside like midfielders without the AP role, or make them Trequartistas that could actually defend for example.

    Referencing 12:00, can a cm-d have the same level of aggression as a BWM with the instructions close down more often and tackle harder?

    • @Flexium_GG
      @Flexium_GG Месяц назад

      Been trying to figure out what 2 roles to use for my double pivot in a 4222 and wondering if the cm(d) could be my answer. So far been having one player deeper, such as a dlp(d) or anchor, and another more aggressive player trying to win ball further up such as a bwm(s). I want that bwm(s) to rush to the ball from his higher position as soon as we lose it, while also helping to link the defense and attack together during buildup. I want the deeper player to use his better passing and vision (rather than his movement) to help progress the ball, and stay back with the 2 cbs since my wingbacks push up and out to stretch the opponent

    • @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker
      @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker  Месяц назад

      In general, a player role that has locked player instructions (in this case the BWM) will behave differently than a role given those instructions. So a BWM's level aggression can't be replicated by another role, but you can get closer by adding in player instructions. So a CM(D) with those added player instructions would be able to do 75%~ of what the BWM can do (in terms of aggression).
      Based on what you want to do, it sounds like you have the roles figured out. The BWM is going to do exactly what you want, and the other DM will still offer protection as well as the passing options.
      If you were looking to further adjust: this would be my addition if you wanted to incorporate a CM.
      In you're tactic, you have two midfielders. One player role is "holding his position + offers a potential creative outlet"; this would be your DLP/Anchor role. The other midfielder is the opposite "roams from position + disrupts opponent", the BWM role. A CM(D) will "hold position + offer protection" which is a less attacking, less disruptive role in your midfield. But this allows your other midfielder to be whatever you need it to be, because the CM(D) is doing all the dirty work.
      You can have a more creative role (AP/CM(A) etc..) as the other midfielder with complete attacking freedom. Or, you can still use the BWM(S), knowing that as he roams and tries to win the ball back, his midfield partner will be the safety net. This option would be a very defensively sound midfield, but means your attacking players up top would need to pick up the slack (so to speak) since your midfield isn't creative.
      That was probably more than you wanted hahaha, but hope that helps!

      @@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I’m actually wondering in my 4-2-2-2 rb Leipzig save if I put a bwm(d) on the left to aggressively cover for my wb(a), and a dm(s) on the right to help build up with my rwb(s). I think that the dm(s) will be higher up, so if the bwm on the left rushes to try to intercept when my wb(a) on the left loses the ball, it gives the dm(s) more time to get back.
      I only worry that if the bwm(d) is on the left, will my wb(a) on that side have enough support if needed? I think so… it’s David Raum who is my favorite player this year, and he typically just sprints past a guy if the space is there rather than relying on 1-2s with my left cdm to further progress upwards. Basically progressing up the left quickly and aggressively, while also having an option to progress up the right with link up play using the supporting roles on that side.
      Another question for the 4222 in this context.. I like the idea of Dani olmo as an am(s) focused more on creativity and killer passes (I like am here more than ap since he’ll be a bit more mobile) and Xavi Simmons as an am(a) who relies more on dribbling and movement to make the final progression. The question is: who do I put on the left vs the right
      To recap:
      left side is wb(a), cd, bwm(d), af
      Right side is wb(s), cd, dm(s), pf(a)
      My gut tells me am(s) on the left to help link the bombing wb(a) with the af and the am(a) on the right to be that attacking option to receive the passes from any of the more supportive roles on that side, but I get tripped up in having Xavi on the right and being right-footed but wanting him to score (imo typically you place strong foot on the inside)
      Thanks so much, always value your opinion and the time you take to build up this community!
