Zerus Zephuros I don't know, it is as if a million people are gambling and a few win, and someone sees the winners and saying, "oh, they won. It makes me feel like gambling."
So planet earth recently taught me that, because a lot of cities are next to the beaches these days, baby turtles mistake the artificial lights as the moon when they're born at night, so they climb towards that and then, gets crushed by cars or dying from exhaustion from crawling towards nothing.. wow these turtles have it tough
"See the turtle of enormous girth! On his shell he holds the earth. His thought is slow but always kind; he holds us all within his mind. On his back all vows are made; he sees the truth but mayn't aid. He loves the land and loves the sea, And even loves a child like me."
Because humans arent the only one who are smart.. They just remember how to go back, its by the way incredible that those beings hatch and instantly know that they have to go to the sea. We really need to save the oceans..
Lord Geezmo instinct is just the word people use when they don't know exactly why. It's not intelligence either though, not like the turtle thinks it through.
Always amazing. There is no other David Attenborough! I was fortunate to be present at Perth Zoo, when an ECONOMICS student and meeting Sir D, helped me choose to take part in the Ningaloo Reef campaign etc...
So inspiring. Member viewing quite similar natural films 40-50yrs ago, with damnable film makers showing predators taking half tryin' to get to water, other predators in water.Jeezsh!
Green sea turtles get their name from the color of their body fat, which is green because of the algae they eat. Adult green sea turtles prefer coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangroves, while hatchlings and juveniles live farther from shore. Unlike most sea turtles, adult green turtles are herbivorous, feeding on sea grasses and algae in the wild, while in captivity, they feed on lettuce and cabbage. Juvenile green turtles, however, will also eat invertebrates like crabs, jellyfish, and sponges. Green sea turtles are threatened or endangered and are fast and powerful swimmers, reaching up speeds of nearly 40 miles per hour. Happy Green Sea Turtle Day!
For the people who want to be able to help them into the sea after hatching- even if you did that it would make very little difference in how many reach reproductive age, and therefore very little difference in the survival of the species. It's a nice thought, but the place people should help them is when they are adults or almost so and prone to getting caught in fishing nets and drowned. That's their biggest threat, so start with fishing boats if you want to save the turtles.
Used to to Monrepos Queensland Australia as kid ( till you had to book a tour ) I only ever saw Loggerheads there . They have a few Greens and flatbacks I only ever one of them nest .
I know y’all in the comments feel for the little guys, but having a harsh start to the world that kills off the unlucky or weaker members off the bat is a way to assure the strongest genes get passed on. It’s sad, but it’s for the betterment of their species.
That is really encouraging. Now i am filled with so many questions. How do they survive without any guidance. How do turtles find their way in ocean. There so much yet to know about these wonderful species.
Can anyone please tell me where the original full-length video went? My family and I watched it and loved it, but now all I can find is the 2-3 minute clip! Where is the full-length feature?!
A batalha das tartarugas é o desígnio da natureza a mais constante...a mudança é mistério que adensa a expectativa humana de a descobrir de que existe quando aparecem em modo crescido!! O mistério permanece e intriga e a descoberta nunca mais chega??

The only thing human babies know is to eat, yet the first thing a turtle baby do is to run toward the sea. They sure know and can do a lot as newborns.
I was smiling when he said they were going home but my face went dead straight when he said many would drown in the pounding waves

Turtles are special to me because I saw them hatching on a beach in Florida.
Turtles hatching is not a very special occurrence.
How is it negative?
Lord Geezmo How is it not? It is certainly a precious and rare occurrence to watch
It certainly can be rare and special to see, but it is not a rare occurrence, nor a special one.
Lord Geezmo that sentence completely contradicts itself
Seeing these tiny turtles fighting against those overwhelming forces of waves makes me feel like fighting onwards again
Zerus Zephuros It makes me hungry

I believe there are people who help the turtles find their way.
lol that’s hilarious
I literally read this fact 5 mins ago and here I am

It's called instinct.
+Alea Chronophage You got a source to back up your claim? I'd be interested to read it.
If you go to the wikipedia page the second example they provide is a baby turtle making it's way to the beach...
Lord Geezmo instinct is just the word people use when they don't know exactly why. It's not intelligence either though, not like the turtle thinks it through.
Do you have anything substantial to add or are you just trying to seem profound?
Incredible how these chaps travel from Chelonia to beaches across the world.
The tiny turtle comes out of the earth like a new plant comes out from the seed! Thanks to BBC team!
Turtles are such amazing creatures; really saddens me that very few survive

I feels like such a "duh, hindsight 20/20" moment, but I didn't know sea turtles could drown...
THEY NOH DEH WEY!
DO DEY DOH?
Those waves...those poor sea turtles just got trampled trying to get to the water. That was brutal.
There’s a lot of comments saying birds shouldn’t be able to get em but it’s just the way things are like lol
so cool how they waited on the sea floor till nighttime looked great

It would still help that one hatchling though, no animal wants to die, you're right about the other stuff tho
