    As a remodeling contractor that has dealt with many instances of water damage, It’s interesting that you chose the wider “drip edge” (which is typically used in EPDM rubber roofing) as opposed to the regular drip edge such as the Riteflow variety that has a kick out to carry the water away from the fascia. I can see the water running right down the fascia and into the soffit vents with that setup. When you install gutters, here’s a pro-tip: tuck window/door drip cap (3/4” to 1 depth) under the current drip edge to create a kick-out to force water into the gutter. Don’t caulk behind gutter-don’t do it. -My opinion (from experience). It’s coming along nicely!

    • @craftedworkshop
      @craftedworkshop  3 года назад +2

      Definitely plan on tucking the gutters under the drip edge but that additional piece of flashing is a good idea!

      That only really helps with putting gutters on, you don't have to space it out a bit more than a quarter inch. Just make it so it's loosely in there, don't squeeze it as far back into the fascia as you can. Gutter guys/siding guys should be able to tuck the gutters under the lip and up. Would help if they put some metal fascia stock on there though then the gutters

    I worked in an engineering shop for a year making flashings and our folding machine had a 'fitted' setting that would mean drip like this and any other profiles could be made to just slide into each other by making certain edges roughly 1mm longer (depends on the thickness of the material). I'd recommend buying them somewhere that has a more modern machine and someone operating it that has a decent bit of experience!

    I've gone to using an oscillator to cut the shingles. Take an old blade and after a few cuts it destroys the teeth and starts to make a V shape and then it cuts really smooth and fast. Also to cut all the starts it's nice to have an old cheap sliding miter saw and an old blade to cut through stacks of the shingles, like 10-12 shingles at a time.

    One thing to consider when you are buying your property. If you buy in a development that has a "home owner's association" you are forever forfeiting some of your freedom to your neighbors, who may or may not have your best interest in mind. Therefore the location of your home is something you may want to consider closely, before making the purchase.
