I used Pine Sol on my '01 cr250 cylinder and power valve parts with great success. One to two days (if you have the time), a little scrubing like you would with any non mechanical method of cleaning and it was perfect. Just make sure everything is submerged fully.
Wayne Woodley, you said you pulled your quadrajet off your 78 El Camino, I jus pulled my quadrajet off my 76 Silverado. Does it really work that well? Im workin on my first project
what i showed a friend is that when i clean a carb i put parts in a container and set the container in my vibrating foot bath and the vibration allows the cleaner you use to scrub the minor holes and spaces you can`t reach
Yeah pinesol works great for soaking carbs and other parts to ..and you are absolutely right it will eat the finish or plating right off and plastics and rubber carb parts don't fair well either I've been using it for some years now it's cheaper and does a decent job
We use pinsol to remove paint off our plastic models, there’s info here on RUclips, I just wonder if it’s eating the finish off the carbs, guess I’ll have to find a junk one to find out, got to give you a A+ for doing it in the kitchen you the man
I did this… worked great and after I was done I dumped the Pine Sol on the garage floor. Scrubbed it around and cleaned off the oil spots in the garage. No waste and no need to store for two years waiting for your next carb rebuild.
Glad Summit is sponsoring you!!! In all fairness you should add a script stating you are receiving compensation for advertising. Love your videos man! I have learned a lot from them, I am Just trying to keep it honest :) if I am wrong, please let me know.
Jason Davenport oh man, I wish summit sponsored me! I even inquired about it since I use their carbs religiously. I don’t make professional enough videos for their endorsement ha! In short, I’m not on their pay roll
I've used liquid plumber mixed with water to soak a Carb that had old gas tht turned to sticky syrup and it worked wonderfully, soaked it over nite was all it needed.
thanks for the tips im definitely trying this ! I have a holley 750 vac carb that i want to re build and it needs to be cleaned. I will be buying some pinsol very soon.
+james myers i would try berrymans carb dip first!!! this works, but there is no replacement for rb dip stuff !!! that and some carb cleaner go a very long way.
We used pine sol to flush out a radiator that got engine oil in it. From a blown head gasket. Took a couple of flushes, then straight water, clean as new!
This did work very well but it seems like you can only use it once. I soaked a quadrajet in it and it cleaned it perfectly put when I put another carburetor in it it barely did anything. Great video though
Have You even tried using anything to agitate/bubble action the solution like a FISH TANK oxygen generation pump to create a flow or movement of the solution?
Man, this is the last time I trust RUclips Instruction; I cleaned all my orifices with Pine-Sol, just like you said. It burned so bad I couldn't sit for week!
11seconds69keynova simmer down, man. It was just a joke and it WAS pretty funny. For someone who only lasts 11 seconds in a 69 my guess is it's probably your wife who has a better sense of humor?
I soaked an Edelbrock (that suffered a severe long term fuel seepage through the lid gasket) in Pine Sol, and it did an okay job. It completely etched the shiny finish off the carb and turned it a dark dull gray, but didn't really clean it. Just did an okay job of making the gunk easier to spray out with a can of B-12. The $30 paint can of Chem Dip I bought for the internal parts and linkage was virtually useless compared to the pine sol and B-12. The B-12 can was by far the most effective in just getting all the gunk off. Next time I rebuild a carb, I'll skip all the soaking and just spray the shit out of it with B-12.
Fitz, I just did the "spray the s**t out of it" method with B-12... didn't work entirely. It was amazing at removing surface varnish (the syrupy stuff) but didn't do a thorough enough job to keep the carb from becoming immediately clogged again. In other words it didn't get the jets cleaned out well enough. I even used a small wire to make sure it was clear. Bottom line, I think a soak and a spray is probably the best way to do the job once, instead of having to pull it off and do it twice (like I'm about to do.)
thanks for this tip! I tried it, worked well. I used it to soak an old carter after it was prewashed in diesel. Not a "restored" finish but did the job. And I can reuse it, unlike carb cleaner.
SOAK IN FULL STRENGHT, “S-100" for about 4 hours. Will not hurt rubber or plastic parts or metal or paint. Will dissolve all gunk! You may have to do some light scrubbing with toothbrush in areas of extreme grime but that should remove with little effort! If you have a sonic cleaner S-100 used in that works even better!!!
Years ago I would restore old model airplane engines by soaking them in ethylene glycol antifreeze in a slow cooker. Those small engines used to be (and sometimes still are) run on fuel that is 20% caster oil. That oil would cause them to be *totally* gummed up and useless after a period of storage. Overnight in slow cooker with ethylene glycol antifreeze was an amazingly effective and well known cleaning technique. It essentially stripped the engine clean of all the thick hard gunk. I looked up Pine Sol and apparently it contains ethylene glycol also. I suspect that ethylene glycol is the ingredient in Pine Sol that is making this work so well. I also suggest that you try plain ethylene glycol antifreeze and see how that works. My guess is that it will be very effective. (And, of course, keep your pets away. They seem to like drinking it and it is poisonous).
Jim Trainor ....Brake cleaner cuts the dried castor oil varnish...or soaking in laquer thinner...theres no rubber on a all aluminum engine...couple O rings for carb ...👍👍
I did the pine sol clean. It was one of the worst things I could have done. It stripped not only the gasoline deposits, but 100% of the protective coatings on the metal. Every bit of steel rusted within a few days. 100% of the aluminum got white oxidation on it within a few days. DO NOT clean your carb with pine sol if you care at all about the appearance of your carburetor.
Most of the Holley carbs are cast in some sort of zinc alloy as well as, I believe the Autolite/Motorcraft are as well. There are exceptions, like some Holleys such as certain 4150 and 4160s and all 4010, 4011s and their clones sold under the Summit brand. Those carbs are cast in an aluminum alloy. Other than the problems that surfaced from Pinesol and what I understand to be zinc plated steel, did the Pinesol clean the carb castings of zinc and aluminum equally as well? How about those thin strips of either Nylon or Teflon that Holley uses as bearing surfaces on their throttle plate shafts? Did you come across any shaft binding after soaking? I would simply remove the throttle shafts before soaking if the throttle plate screws were easier to remove. Thanks for experimenting with different cleaning solutions because other than still being caustic, the newer formulations of carb cleaning/soaking solutions don't seem to work as well as they used to. Plus the newer solutions are expensive.
+William Charles on this 4100 i didnt encounter any issues thankfully. throttle didnt bind, i did remove the shafts where they are not on the carb in that last clip for a better clean so i could get my brush down the venturies. i wouldnt try it with my summit 600 as im sure it would ruin the finish. any carb part that was that yellowed zinc color is now dulled or silver, so that is something to consider. i wish they made berrymans bigger so one could simply dunk an entire carb. - i dont really want to pay for the drum size
Thanks for the reply. I'm familiar with the Berrymans and agree that the quantity required would get pricy. It would be interesting to see the results, though. That chromate finish doesn't stand up to much cleaning no matter what you use it seems to me. If you need to get a really funked up carb clean, it's going to be pretty much gone from my past experience. Eastwood and maybe Summit has the spray on chromate, but I don't know if it will hold up very well.

Read the label. Manufacturer suggests not using it with aluminum. Notice after soaking, the metal finish has dulled? Pinesol does that. As for factory-drilled and metered fuel passages, up to you.
Stop drinking the koolaid dude, it literally says on the site that is is designed to be a lubricant. It's not a specialized lubricant, it's a generalized one. Use the right lube for the job.
Tobius is absolutely right! WD40 sucks as a lube, specific or generalized (whatever that is supposed to mean)! ...even after 40 attempts its not "perfect", sorry!...and I don't have to drink koolaid to doubt the horseshit fiction the marketing dept had printed on the can or published on their site...I go by my long-time experience, and that is that WD only "lubes" immediately after spraying and while wet, but leaves very little behind in terms of long-term lube. If you use WD as a "lube", you need to come back in a week and "lube" it again...screw that! It displaces water...BFD!...so does wiping off the dist cap, and spark plug wires... If I want a (light) lube, that works great and sticks around for a long time, I use Triflow...I sure as hell don't reach for WD...period!

Walmart sells lacquer thinner both in the paint and automotive section. The automotive lacquer thinner is cheaper. Why would anyone in their right mind want to spend 16-24 hours soaking a carb when lacquer thinner works better in a few minutes, if not a minute?
This is a throwback, was an apartment with my two other college roommates! One was a girl and one was gay, so actually less understanding than a wife 😂

honestly and truly - must not of been as bad as the carb I had to deal with here in the vid. - it did come off a car that sat in a barn for 30 years. i was bummed, i would have liked the lemon treatment to of worked for the ancient varnish . . .
I still haven't shown my wife the picture of our dining room table and my carburetor cleaning supplies... while she and the kids were away at her mother's house! I tried a little carb cleaning since then at the same table while she was in the house... that didn't go over well! I need a shop!
Your carb was still filthy. So don't say it worked worth a shit. There's no if you rub a finger.... Wet the carb. Sprinkle Ajax or Comet powder on the carb. Brush with an old toothbrush. Rinse. Takes all of 40 seconds. Not days and hours like Pinesol.
Boy, I love this type of video. It's a miracle for people that need to know details about things that they are unfamiliar with. Thanks.

It has no ethylene glycol . The ingredient that you need is Glycolic Acid . Only the original formula has it.
Run some Marvel Mystery Oil through it right before storage. Won't gum up anymore.
My Dad just told me about the antifreeze trick as he still runs those plane engines that need castor oil.

Throughout the video I kept wondering: how many CFM can that toaster handle?
How long can you leave it soaking in pine sol? I’ve had some soaking for 24 hours. I’m still waiting for parts so I feel like if I take them out they’ll rust
I believe most carburetors are an aluminum body.
that’s the power of pinesol baby
its safe for rubber and plastic!!
Will this not damage the diaphragms and other rubber internals? Or do they need removal first?
yes remove all plastic and orings and rubber if you can.
so what I really want to know is, just how fast is your toaster?
It’s fast but it pops toast through the ceiling!
it isnt what you can see on the outside of a carb that matters.
True, but isn't a cleaner's ability to clean on the outside at least somewhat of an indicator of its ability to clean on the inside?
you don't soak a carb for the outside....just saying....think for a minute bro. He soaked to clean the inside.
@@KingKatRider Yeah "think for a minute bro", if it cant clean the gunk off the outside how tf is it going to clean the gunk on the inside?

soak it in cider

Are you boiling the lacquer thinner?
jessewimb. You cereal?
You know it's a great big world. If you hate California move the fuck out.
Is that a summit high performance toaster 😅
On my carb. …. The inlet tube was plugged …. I almost needed a snake lol
In the kitchen sink! 100 bucks says your not married!
This is a throwback, was an apartment with my two other college roommates!
One was a girl and one was gay, so actually less understanding than a wife 😂

Oh yea I covered all my ford emblems and lariat emblems on the truck with Edelbrock stickers. I now drive an 86 Edelbrock F-250 XLT Edelbrock

That old Ford at the end seems to miss a little at an idle.

screw pine sole. go with boiling str8 lemon juice for 30 mins.....i promise ull never try anything else

ThunderHead289
i did it just yesterday on a mikuni 26mm. ill never go back
honestly and truly - must not of been as bad as the carb I had to deal with here in the vid. - it did come off a car that sat in a barn for 30 years. i was bummed, i would have liked the lemon treatment to of worked for the ancient varnish . . .
hmmm, i wonder why your results were more favorable. i do know i was successful in gassing out my roommates at that time with the fumes ! ha!
lol dont tell me you are married! i did it before with tailight lenses worked great just didnt tell the wife!
+William Morton ha! not married yet, but trying to stay marketable !!!! i might have to try that on the next dirty carb !
I still haven't shown my wife the picture of our dining room table and my carburetor cleaning supplies... while she and the kids were away at her mother's house! I tried a little carb cleaning since then at the same table while she was in the house... that didn't go over well! I need a shop!
You buy a $10 slow cooker in dollar store and use it for antifreeze. You don't ever put antifreeze in a cooking crockpot, you plumbus!
Lol calm down internet expert
LOL, you got it. Everything on the net is true. Have a good one!!
ThunderHead289 lol you better apologize to her before she gets nastier lol.
