Hi Del and Penny, nice video! thanks for posting. It’s remarkable timing for this video because I just bought a 30L ultrasonic bath from Vevor. I’m using mine to clean the carburetors from my 2002 bandit 1200. I bought the large bath because I wanted to make sure I could put the entire bank for carburetors in the tank without having to break them down. About 10 years ago I lucked out, and bought a used wet abrasive blasting cabinet. Sometimes it’s called vapor honing . This has been my one tool deal of a lifetime. A neighbor was going to scrap this cabinet. I bought it for $100. If you’ve ever looked at this technology, you’ll know they’re very expensive when new. The ultrasonic bath is a perfect compliment to wet or dry blasting to remove abrasive residue. I also bought a used set of gen 3 bandit 1200 carbs off of a European used motorcycle parts website. I’m gonna clean those up as well. They are practice pieces for vapor honing and using the ultrasonic cleaner. With luck, I’ll have two sets of refurbished bandit carbs when I’m done. I’ll resell on set and i hope recoup the money i spent on the ultasonic bath. I was curious if you could use cleaning solutions other than water and soap safely on an aluminum carburetor. based on your video it looks like you can. I was also curious if the ultrasonic bath would takeoff carbon deposits because I was thinking that would have to be done in a blast cabinet or by hand with a wire brush like you describe. Do you have any thought on how hot to run the ultrasonic bath when cleaning a carburetor? Im removing all the jets, floats, needles, etc? Thanks again!
Thanks for your long message, I'm by no means an expert on it, but from reading I understand that 65c is the maximum temperature before the water begins the process towards boiling and steam bubbles begin to develop...not only that, 65c on my tank is the max. temperature it goes to! And I would imagine that's safe for carbs as they quite probably get a lot hotter than that wedged in behind the engine on a hot day... but if you're a little concerned, perhaps run it a little cooler just to be on the safe side! Good luck with it...!
Having been a Jeweller and Clockmaker for over forty years using these machines, once you start you never look back and you just keep finding more uses for them. I have two to cover the work I do on cars and bikes as well as the jewellery and clocks. You find they save you so much time and allow you to be doing other things while they are doing the cleaning for you.
Great to hear Steve. and with such a glowing endoursement from someone in your line of work, i guess they're everything people say they are.. Im glad i made the investment, anf im sure i will be using it a lot now. !
When I was spinning wrenches on M1A1 battle tanks, we had ultrasonic vats on hand specifically for cleaning the fuel nozzle on the AGT1500 turbine engine. Be careful of the variety of cleaning fluid you use if you're going to clean certain non-ferrous metals. A buddy of mine cleaned his carburetor in our tank at work, and while it did indeed get it very clean, the fluid turned everything aluminum jet black in color.
I was advised never to put roller or ball bearing’s into ultra sonic cleaners, apparently it causes brinelling of the surface resulting in bearing failure.
Hiya Penny and Del - great video! I have had an ultrasonic cleaner for a couple of years and I've found it very useful, most recently in cleaning the parts of my Bandit's vacuum fuel tap during the process of rebuilding it. One tip I have for smaller parts is to use a small container (like a leftover pill bottle) - if you drill a few small holes to prevent it from floating, all the better. And if you have something really dirty and don't want to contaminate the liquid in the tank, fill a separate container with liquid and put it inside. So glad to see you've added this very useful tool to your shop! Take care, dear friends - take it easy, ride safe, and have a great weekend!
Thanks so much buddy.. i read about that.. simple way to clean small parts you want to isolate.. specially good for Penny's jewellery parts with the tank now having carbon residue in it.. Take care and have a wonderful weekend, and as always, thank you for your amazing support. D&Pxx
One thing to NEVER put in the ultrasonic cleaner is polarised sunglasses, modern sunnies use a film over the lense to achieve the colour and polarisation, the cavitation in the ultra sonic will remove this very effectively, ask me how I know . One the other hand ultra sonics do a fantastic job cleaning normal glasses , jewellery and watch bands, dont put the actual watch in there. I picked up one of this sized machines about 3 years ago, does a brilliant job on carburettors and as Delboy has demonstrated just about anything else, just NOT polarised sunglasses. Thanks for the video. Cheers
Have a look at my comment - Decon recognised that the original Decon 90 (around for 50 years or more) has limitations for non-ferrous metals and sensitive coated surfaces. They produced Neutracon, which they claim is for aluminium, zinc, copper, brass, silver etc., soft glass, coated lenses, polymer surfaces and other sensitive surfaces. Not sure I'd risk it on my posh brand new Raybans, but I might try it on an old pair that the dog has chewed, to see if that works safely.
That piston cleaning was very impressive! The amount that was taken off in 15 minutes really surprised me, and then, with a slosh more, slightly warmer juice and a little more time, Presto-Chango!! New looking parts!. The piston ring rattle test really showed how good that thingy works! Enjoy your new toy, you two, and enjoy the weekend :)
Theres the cruxt point of it, those rings were cleaned out like new without even removing them.. means those little areas you can never get to can now be got at..! Have a great weekend Tommy and stay safe !
Interesting video. 👍 I've one the same size as that, which I bought for various projects. What I do is fill the tank with some water (over the minimum level of course) an use separate containers for different fluids I use to clean various items. In your case, you might have an old ice cream tub with water & degreaser and Penny might have a jam jar with her jewellery cleaning fluid or just water and washing up liquid or you might have a glass coffee jar with some other liquid mixture for cleaning up smaller parts. It saves having a large volume of the degreaser mixture sitting around. I suppose if you did just have it sitting there, Penny could still have her items in a small sealed container bobbing around the big tank getting cleaned, as it's the Ultrasonic frequency which is doing the work and it just passes through the fluid with ease. Just a suggestion.
Thanks mate, great suggestion, a few poeple have said the same thing, and it's a great way to save time and money on different cleaners and constantly washing the tank out.. Really appreciate the time you took to write and let me know.. have great weekend mate. !
The second reason you should always use the basket it's to avoid burning the ultrasonic element at the bottom of the base by placing parts in direct contact with the base.
I fitted new plugs to my FJ a couple of months ago in a service. But when I fired it up yesterday, it was as if it was on three cylinders. It was running alright before. Maybe the fuel is starting to oxidise? Yes, another helpful video from Delboys Garage is a good way to save some money. More money for beer or cake 😅
I guess if you've used E10 dishwater octane.. it will go a bit stale in a couple of months, specially oin old carbs.. if you can get it running clean on some fresh E5, then maybe give it a good run and clear it all through... and check otur fuel hoses too mate, look what happened to mine after a while in storage.. they are finite, should be reaplced every 4 years or so at least.!
Really kwel machine. I own one, the only purpose clean my wrenches, sockets ( no ratchets) among other tools, and many customers have never seen such cleanest tools and spotless clean drawers. I have been using purple cleaner, let it clean during the lunch hours. I had that machine past 5-6 years. Really can't go wrong owning one in small shops. I sometimes clean carburetors and diesel fuel injectors.
Thanks for sharing sir.. i can see it's a popular machine and worthy investment.. im looking forward to cleaner tools for sure. ! Thank you for your support. Have a geat weekend and stay safe.. D&Pxx
Absolutely brilliant, your excellent description of it's functionality! I have seen a zillion online videos of people using these things, from Mechanics, to Jewelry peeps, to Watchmakers, etc. Not a *single* one of them has ever even mentioned the Degassing part, let alone explained it. Hats off to you again, as usual!
You're very welcome, im glad it helped. I just read through the instructions and it did seemed to stress that Degassing is important. Thank you for your support as always. Have a great weekend and stay safe.. D&Px
Got a 30L brilliant bit of kit, be very careful with degreasers and type of cleaning solutions with delicate aluminium parts like carburettor parts, as some else mentioned to save even more on cleaning solution, depending on size of parts fill tank with water and use small tub inside with water n cleaning agent. Recommended on the big 30L unit build frame with castors moves around garage with ease
After watching this video it occurred to me they have these in the local chippy. I ran straight round with some heavily soiled XJR parts and pushed past the people waiting and threw them straight in. The woman behind the counter starting shouting at me, couldn't understand her but it sounded hostile!!!! Anyway I'm barred now so no more chips for me 😢
No Way..how unhelpful is that !! you'd think they would value their customers needs, be helpful in their customer service, and throw in a bag of scraps and a deep fried Mars bar for good measure.. drop a name and shame them buddy, we won't be using them for uz fish supper again and no mistaking..!
Looking into a sonic cleaner after watching this - for what ever reason I had this assumption it was tricky to set up and that put me off. But clearly, it isn't that difficult. Looks to clean up parts really bloody well too. Nice! 😎
Sure does mate.. simple and effective.. specially on clogged up fuel parts and hard to reach things.. Hope life is good and you're looking forward to spring.
get some zip lock bags mate, it will keep your cleaner clean. just put the parts with water and vinigar in the bag and that in the cleaner. it's also a lot easier to find the small parts once the water is dirty
I heard so much about them, but never got them shown or explained. Thanks for your video. It will pay off soon for both o you. Have a wonderful weekend, Günter/Nürnberg
Hi Penny and Del ,hope all is going well for you both. Nice video mate, I have had one for some years now and one at work. They are a great bit of kit, would be lost without it and I use the glass jar tick as well. But now you have got me thinking I need a bigger one, damn you Del LOL. Hope the weather is starting to get better over there, it's a bit cooler over this side only 32C today. Penny and you have a great relaxing weekend and take care. Cheers
Morning mate.. still raining here, and zero an night if the sky clears.. so ill settle for 32c any day, help dry up some of the flood water lol! I can see this getting used a lot from now on, and making life easier for sure. . Take care and have a great weekend mate.. D&Pxx
Old timers like me over here in the States will remember Mr. Wizard who had a TV show on all sorts of cool science topics. Looks like you are the new modern day version of Mr. Wizard. 😁 Always fun to get a new shop tool especially when you and Penny can both use it. Have fun with it. Cheers to you both. ❤👍👍
Just checked out Mr Wizard.. i wish they put that kind of TV on today, back in the 70's over here we had Jack Hargreaves with "Out of Town". just an old guy who sat telling you about all the old ways an how to do things simple and easy.. Bring back Jack and Mr Wiz... who needs Google..lol! Have a great weekend and take care always.. D&Pxx

The Sportster 883 pistons! Are you done with Sportster videos? I seem to recall a shop-startup video, but not a proper ride-around, like that awesome T120 video which is still one of my favorites!
Not by any means John.... the bike sits patiently awaiting the end of monsoon season we seem to currently be under.. then it will indeed be a ride video up to get an MOT, then a ride out just like the T120, and i can't wait.!
NO, not directly, it indicates a rich mixture for a long time, insufficient burning of fuel... but the rings and bores are more then healthy with cross hatching still clearly visible..bike had only done a genuine 14k miles, so this would have burned little or no oil at all.!
I enjoy learning from your experience in motorcycle mechanics and maintaining bikes. Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: King Solomon
That is one extremely useful bit of kit Del ! I think it is a worthwhile investment ! Thank you for the video as i have wondered , are they any good ? now i know ! Have a good weekend mate 👍
'Enginerding' - what percentage difference between 'time spent removing crud' & 'time spent spraying/baking/riding it all back on'? One day I'll advance myself, all the way to stupid, learn to accept colours DO have a merit beyond their somewhat flakey attempts at corrosion proofing & maybe even get myself into Art College. Until then tho' - "Crud is cool, it has depth." : )xx
I purchased a Utrasonic Cleaner several years ago, and I would be totally lost with out it. Cleaning carburetor’s is a must. Highly recommended it !

That's what anodizing is; Oxidation of aluminum.

Given enough time, all bearings will fail.
@@FasterBastard1 ..but will fail prematurely if put through an ultrasonic cleaner, was the advice I was given.

Does having that kind of dirty pistons result in oil burning, do you know
NO, not directly, it indicates a rich mixture for a long time, insufficient burning of fuel... but the rings and bores are more then healthy with cross hatching still clearly visible..bike had only done a genuine 14k miles, so this would have burned little or no oil at all.!
Sold! Been looking into one of these, definitely worth the investment
It really is!
I enjoy learning from your experience in motorcycle mechanics and maintaining bikes.

There aren't any links to the products....?
So what are the first four links in the description under the video then?!!!
Very impressive, definitely worth the doubling up! Can I have mayo with my fries please 🤣
Yes you can, but there's curry sauce if you prefer.lol!
Hi Del a great bit of kit . I was wondering can you clean your bike chain in it or will it destroy the O rings .?
I think like with bearings, it would damage the hardened steel pins, and also there are plenty of effective ways to clean a chain already..!
Where are the Links?

'Enginerding' - what percentage difference between 'time spent removing crud' & 'time spent spraying/baking/riding it all back on'? One day I'll advance myself, all the way to stupid, learn to accept colours DO have a merit beyond their somewhat flakey attempts at corrosion proofing & maybe even get myself into Art College. Until then tho' - "Crud is cool, it has depth." : )xx
I read this comnent and it made no sence or maybe it's just me ?
@@thomasedward9065 If I ever make any sense, there's little hope for the rest of you : )
I use my ultrasonic cleaner all the time on carbs and firearms parts and whole glocks after they get dirty enough lol
Would it do more then what you did like other parts of a motorbike ? Thanks
Like i said at the end.. practically anything.. specially carbs and injectors..!
Hi Del I am thinking of getting one of these but I was wondering could you fit a cylinder head of a Harley Evolution in the one you have?
I think it'd pretty much fit, someone suggested you can always leave bigger items sticking out, do one side then spin it over and do the other..!
that's great thank you.@@Moonfleet41
