@@TheChampRekts you’re in for a treat! Satriani has an extensive collection of burners. He was the one who taught Steve Vai how to play. 🤘
Growing up through the late 70s to early 80s, there were shredders for days. A lot of good and bad, but this dude is his own level. He's a shredder, but he's not. Definitely a stand out from an era with a ton of shredders.

Still gives me goosebumps. Takes me back to 1991-1992 driving up to the Northern Beaches of Sydney with my boyfriend in his little sports car, playing this LOUD. Great times. Love Joe, love it when he comes to Australia. G3 is a blast too!
Makes me feel old 😂. The CD barely existed when I first heard this song (Had to have been around 1988). I was 16 then. I thought “Dude! This is, by far... the most STELLAR version of flying in a blue dream. It's beautiful, electrifying, sensational, exotic and so much more. Mr. Satriani... BRAVO. I'm sure this video itself is the reason why millions have taken up the instrument.
it's incredible how well he is able to reproduce this song live, note-for-note. It took me way too long to figure out what Joe learned very early on - guitar is fucking FUN, and the better you get at it, the more fun it is.
When I ws young, my middle brother and I never got along. One day, after school, he said 'c'mon...we gotta go, now!" I was confused. My mom & dad said - you better go with him. So I hopped into his white firebird with red flame stripes and he refused to tell me where we were going. Shockingly, it was a phenomenal car ride and we talked alot. We arrived in downtown Albany Ny at the Palace theater and the Marquee Letters blared "Tonight at 7 pm - Joe Satriani Surfing with the Alien tour" I screamed NO WAY!!!. Wow. I teared up. My first live show of Joe and it was awesome. Stu hamm there too. I'm 46 now, was 13 or 14 at the time and bought a bass when I was 12. Hope you jam until you're 111 years old.
I just had to laugh when I saw the lights come up and he's just grinning like, "Listen to this"... This still makes an old vinyl-to-digital era radio guy like me grin like a kid. One of the greats without a doubt and he just lets the guitar speak for itself. Outstanding!

I actually like it better when a fantastic musical performance is matched with good lyrics and them switching throughout. Brothers in Arms, November Rain and Pink Floyd is a great excample of this. They become guitar solos, rather than ... whatever this is, but still. A guitar solo has the added effect of breaking into what the rest of the song has established before. I remember listening to this Jam 20 years ago , as loud as possible while going 120-40 mph across the desert in a classic Hot Rod over and over again, with a hundred miles between point a and b. I was addicted. Every time I hear this song it reminds me and it equates to an adrenaline rush that Joe has always been able to dish out. Joe is part of the reason I play guitar and above all, I still believe he is the best.
Best G3 I ever attended. '96 (hard to believe it was that long ago). Satriani, Johnson, and Vai. Even being in the same county, much less the same building, with those immortals was something I will treasure the rest of my life.
Thanks Joe for shaking my hand and singing my ticket in Tower records in Hollywood early 2000's!!! Canes ballroom . Greek Theater with Dream Theater. Great show !!! Thank you for for being A cool dude! And Original! To the Top Sir!!!
Guitarists make their albums for other guitarists. Joe makes albums for people who love music. He understands melody, dynamics and having a good time. No matter what people think of shred, they will dig his music. Side note, that live tone is goals!
You watch him up there grinning like a schoolkid who got TWO extra slices of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, and how can you NOT enjoy yourself? Few performers I've seen have been having such pure unadulterated fun as he's obviously having. * * - One of the things that endears Band Maid to me so much is how excited they are to be out there playing :)
I started playing guitar in the mid 70s… and sure when Eddie came out it was fantastic and fast… but when Randy came out he lead neo classical rock and made your ears perk up… it wasn’t just flash… it was well thought out modes and unique… I still remember the day I heard his plane crashed… it affected me… he was the best… RIP Randy and Eddie… 😮😢😊

You aren't alone
I have similar experiences in my Vette. Loud as possible with the pedal mashed in the AZ desert.
Best G3 I ever attended. '96 (hard to believe it was that long ago). Satriani, Johnson, and Vai. Even being in the same county, much less the same building, with those immortals was something I will treasure the rest of my life.
Absolutely one of the best ever ...i haven't heard one bad song from him
He has plenty but the amount of amazing songs over his entire career can’t be topped
i will was a never give a fuck forthat gay
Best skiing/skating song ever ✨
Flying in a Blue Dream is the very definition of Cool.
its too cool the generation today will never appreciate musicians like him...classic and timeless!
@@shocked65 I'm 17 and I appreciate it! Satriani is my favorite artist :D

15 years old when I bought this album. Still blows my mind 40+ years later. So damn good!
Yep. Rarely not in my player (holds six cds)
I've been listened to Joe since high school. I'm 30 now, and he still, in my opinion, one of the best guitar players worldwide. Congrats, from Brazil.
That's awesome!!!
Me? Since surfing with the alien 👽
I'm 57...
I also listen since high school and I'm 33 now. E também sou brasileiro kkk
Me too, since high school, also brazilian. I'm 36.
Same. I’m 33
Never been disappointed at a Satriani concert🥰 good stuff
Been listening to Satriani for, well eternity and this song is still amazing after all these years.
Imagine having that kinda magical power at your fingertips. Goosebumps.
Thanks Joe for shaking my hand and singing my ticket in Tower records in Hollywood early 2000's!!! Canes ballroom . Greek Theater with Dream Theater. Great show !!! Thank you for for being A cool dude! And Original! To the Top Sir!!!
Happy memories from 80s thru 90s !!! Allways with you all FLINT MI.
Seems Joe had a lot of fun that night. What a tour through emotion.
Love this Song, unbelievable
Guitarists make their albums for other guitarists. Joe makes albums for people who love music. He understands melody, dynamics and having a good time. No matter what people think of shred, they will dig his music. Side note, that live tone is goals!
I don’t really like his music. Grossly overused whammy for sounds that should be played on a synth. While it’s impressive it sounds like ass
@@reidjames6 Clearly you don't play guitar
Word
@@jimmyb4812 The guitar arguement gets people music, the albums like the guy who says play to get it.
You watch him up there grinning like a schoolkid who got TWO extra slices of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, and how can you NOT enjoy yourself? Few performers I've seen have been having such pure unadulterated fun as he's obviously having. *
* - One of the things that endears Band Maid to me so much is how excited they are to be out there playing :)
I’m a drummer and I love playing with this man
I absolutely love Joe Satriani the man is a genius. His music and playing move me emotionally.
For me ,the most magical and beautiful composition from Joe .
Flying...one of my favorites
Hell yeah. Satriani... the alien... the master... Genius
Joe, your music has saved my life on many occasions. I don't think I can ever thank you enough for making music. Love
The most technically proficient player that ever picked up a guitar. A perfectionist. He just doesn't miss.....EVER!
Heard this when it was first released, still sounds fresh. Never gets dated.
When you love what you do. you live forever
