You listen to Satriani when you were 15, he blows your mind. As the years pass you discover new music, new players, study music, play more than 30 years, struggle...a lot. Then, after a really long time you punch his name on the keyboard and watch him play. There it is, you are HOME. You can't overgrow Satriani man, you just can't...
I have seen Satriani live three times over the years. Absolutely mind blowing performer. Thanks Joe for moving me to tears when I first heard Surfing with the Alien as a teenager. You are undoubtedly the best composer alive today. Rock on!

Growing up through the late 70s to early 80s, there were shredders for days. A lot of good and bad, but this dude is his own level. He's a shredder, but he's not. Definitely a stand out from an era with a ton of shredders.
Still gives me goosebumps. Takes me back to 1991-1992 driving up to the Northern Beaches of Sydney with my boyfriend in his little sports car, playing this LOUD. Great times. Love Joe, love it when he comes to Australia. G3 is a blast too!
This is, by far... the most STELLAR version of flying in a blue dream. It's beautiful, electrifying, sensational, exotic and so much more. Mr. Satriani... BRAVO. I'm sure this video itself is the reason why millions have taken up the instrument.

I'd never heard this song until a childhood friend of mine posted it on Facebook. One early Saturday morning, I listened to it, got out of bed, got dressed, got in my car, and went for a drive as I listened to it again, and again. To date, it's one of my top ten favorite songs.
I saw Joe live only one time. The room went dark and he started playing this, and when the spotlight came up it was him center stage, chrome glasses, chrome guitar, throwing out sounds that captivated the entire audience. He looked majestic and calm as he worked that blazing guitar into such beautiful music with streams of light shining off the chrome. It was fantastic. Also not, the set musicians he plays with are supremely talented as well. It is not a one man show by any means.

Joe is one of the MASTERS of the instrument w/beautiful sensibilities creating intricate yet easy to follow melodies embedded in his techno-wizardry. IMO He IS the greatest living rock instrumentalist that lives, and has ever lived. How lucky we all are to be contemporaries witnessing his magical performances teaching us ALL "what is possible" Love You My Brother! xolox
Of all the instrumental guitarists out there, JOE is the purest so far as a rock foundations goes. I. love it that he's stayed true to his roots. Best of the best. There's Joe, then everyone else!
Thanks Joe for shaking my hand and singing my ticket in Tower records in Hollywood early 2000's!!! Canes ballroom . Greek Theater with Dream Theater. Great show !!! Thank you for for being A cool dude! And Original! To the Top Sir!!!
Joe, this old guy finishes a run of notes that is ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME WORTHY, and just keeps playing EXACTLY like when the song started: with a fun grin and exquisite playing style. There is nothing on this earth like Joe Satriani.
One of the true great masters of guitar playing of this and the last century. For me he has the perfect balance of melody, shred, touch and nuance and the accuracy, fluidity and virtuosity of his playing can only leave you standing there with your mouth open and your ears in pure heaven. I've no idea how he even holds all that in his head. Thank the music lords for youtube and videos like this.

Each note has his own feelings. Each note tells his story how we were came to life. This song has his own story what a master piece this is ❤ Joe Satriani You are the best ❤
I totally agree with your sentiment. In a reasonably recent R.Beato interview with Vai and Joe, Steve said that Joe sent him home from a guitar lesson because Steve did not do his homework - which was to learn every note on every string. Steve showed up, Joe said give me an F sharp on the B string. Steve said he shrugged, and Joe said come back when you’re ready. I got a kick out of that story. Re your comment, I’ve heard each of them speak about the importance of getting exactly what you want out of every note with every finger. Obviously, they have mastered exactly that.
Best G3 I ever attended. '96 (hard to believe it was that long ago). Satriani, Johnson, and Vai. Even being in the same county, much less the same building, with those immortals was something I will treasure the rest of my life.
Guitarists make their albums for other guitarists. Joe makes albums for people who love music. He understands melody, dynamics and having a good time. No matter what people think of shred, they will dig his music. Side note, that live tone is goals!
You watch him up there grinning like a schoolkid who got TWO extra slices of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, and how can you NOT enjoy yourself? Few performers I've seen have been having such pure unadulterated fun as he's obviously having. * * - One of the things that endears Band Maid to me so much is how excited they are to be out there playing :)

this song had me in awe as a teenager and still does at almost 50
Me too!
67 here and still does
he's amazing..and when he gives tutorials, his articulation is spot on..the man's a genius..I mean who can consistantly draw thousands of people, head of a band, without lyrics?
Joe is the Master of tone, he has a beautiful voice with his axe.
Saw him this year in Boston and it was so amazing. Love, love his music. His music makes you feel all kind of emotions. Can't say enough of the beauty of his sound.
I absolutely love Joe Satriani the man is a genius. His music and playing move me emotionally.
KEN Johnson I agree. There’s so many great guitarists but joe really seems to sing through his guitar
KEN Johnson damn right brother. The passion this guy plays with is just as good as his skills. He’s a huge inspiration to my playing
Gary Moore & Jeff Beck. Blow By Blow & Wired are still my favorite instrumental albums. Surfing With The Alien is up there. Joe is a beast!
ok, time to make some new buckethead fans...
listen to this and the true god will be revealed

Mari Torronto Buckethead is great, but sorry dude, I personally like Satriani better.
RIP Rene! Thank you for sharing this song with me so long ago. It became one of my favorites instantly. Rock on for all eternity 🤘🏽
Thanks Joe for shaking my hand and singing my ticket in Tower records in Hollywood early 2000's!!! Canes ballroom . Greek Theater with Dream Theater. Great show !!! Thank you for for being A cool dude! And Original! To the Top Sir!!!
The most technically proficient player that ever picked up a guitar. A perfectionist. He just doesn't miss.....EVER!
He never ceases to AMAZE ME TOUCHES ME SOMEWHERE DEEP where I don’t often go. .. So keep em coming JOE you are truely a guitar GOD..
Joe, this old guy finishes a run of notes that is ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME WORTHY, and just keeps playing EXACTLY like when the song started: with a fun grin and exquisite playing style. There is nothing on this earth like Joe Satriani.
😎 one of the worlds greatest guitar players!! Thank you!!!! 🥰
A big smile on my face... And tears in my eyes... Absolutely top of the top...!!! 👍😍
Got the album day of release and it never got took off turntable for months. Then you hear how he has improved it nearly 30 years later. BEAUTIFUL!!
Excellent! I like that Joe always has a drummer with a serious backbeat. It leaves room on top for him to play what ever he wants.
That JS signature Ibanez literally was loved extensively.... such love making
This song is so beautiful that it hurts.
Yes! It hurts! You put it perfectly!
You're right. It's indescribable what he achieved with this.
@@naznindeeba In a magnificent way! ✨🖤✨
This is my first pick for my desert island playlist. There's a vibe, a mood that's without peer, and it's been a favorite of mine for decades.
I bet most of the audience are musicians just to experience, see, listen and learn from the Master Satriani like if it was a Seminar or Bootcamp
Marco Vinicio without doubt. I’m ten lifetimes in and still so far behind this chap I might as well take up fishing.
@@dadmadforgot4050 . Yep, he doesn't inspire me to pick up a guitar, why bother. smh
Man that's one happy boot camp....
@@mr.z541 you might not be able to be better at guitar than him, but you can definitely make better music than him.
Yup!
Absolutely one of the best ever ...i haven't heard one bad song from him
He has plenty but the amount of amazing songs over his entire career can’t be topped
i will was a never give a fuck forthat gay
One of my all time favs from Satch! I can listen to this over and over again! Dude just shreds cheddar on this one!
Don't forget Satch Boogie, my personal favorite
A man is always a god
Happy Anniversary Joe!!
Saw him in 1994 in Cleveland. He was literally feet from me. The effortless play of ridiculously good guitar skill was unreal. He’s the best. Period.
Hes a god....but i dont know about being the best guitar player.....certainly up there but....saw a guy called guthrie govan...and he at least sounded as good as satch. But satchs mucis has melody🙌
Been listening to Satriani for, well eternity and this song is still amazing after all these years.
It's a fantastic pleasure both to hear and to SEE Joe play! What he does with the guitar, dammit!!
The master in Blue n this made me fly back then n still does after almost quater of a century when i first heard this .... Love this forever 🙏💙🙏
I don’t really like his music. Grossly overused whammy for sounds that should be played on a synth. While it’s impressive it sounds like ass
@@reidjames6 Clearly you don't play guitar
Word
@@jimmyb4812 The guitar arguement gets people music, the albums like the guy who says play to get it.
You watch him up there grinning like a schoolkid who got TWO extra slices of pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, and how can you NOT enjoy yourself? Few performers I've seen have been having such pure unadulterated fun as he's obviously having. *
* - One of the things that endears Band Maid to me so much is how excited they are to be out there playing :)
Wild and pure entertainment always a satriani fan here
Started listening to joe when I was 16 or 17 over 20 years ago when I was learning how to play
No-one even comes close to him after all these years, emotion, style, intensity, pure class
Master Of The Masters!
❤️ oo yes!
Satch....one of a kind
Never been disappointed at a Satriani concert🥰 good stuff
Joe Satriani is big inspiration,He makes the guitar look so easy, great performance, brilliant and masterpiece..greetings from KK Sabah🇲🇾🇲🇾🤘🏼🎸🇲🇾🇲🇾
Just.... what an incredible song, and arrangement.
15 years old when I bought this album. Still blows my mind 40+ years later. So damn good!
Yep. Rarely not in my player (holds six cds)
One of the most beautiful endings to a live show I've heard in ages!
Guitar legend 🎸😎 amazing massive respect always
This is one the most beautiful guitar pieces ever written.
There are no better guitar player 8n tbis centuru over him.I can put the list of players in last 50 years, and they are not evem close to this person, reason is so simple:harmony with guitar!if you listen carefully, the are 1.body and soul!...after that I can say Steve Wau,slash, prince,Vlatko stefanofski...and many more but he passed the game...alll stages...head down forewer
No gimmicks, just a dude playing some incredibly beautiful guitar.
Yeah!
This has always been and always will be my favorite concert footage of any artist ever
