I loved this show but it always bugged me that it was called Eve but her character’s name was Shelly.
I didn't really watch the show saw little, but that is funny.
A lot of Black people do that with their shows. It gives you an opportunity to become a household name. The Cosby show (Huxtable), The Wayans Brothers (Williams), the Jamie Foxx show (King), the Steve Harvey show (Hightower), etc. Also, Martin’s theme song said “Martin Lawrence” repeatedly and his name on the show was Martin Payne.

TheodoreBakes I saw an interview with one of the comedians from one of those shows and he explained it that way cause I always wondered why they all did that. He also said something about not wanting to be remembered as the character, opposed to their own name. A lot of times actors will play a character and the character becomes bigger than the actor.

Not necessarily . Love Inc. and One On One (Season 5 with the addition of Ray J and Kel Mitchell) were the worse sitcoms on UPN . The only promising black sitcom around 2005 was " Everybody Hates Chris " . At least they got the chance to have 4 seasons . All of Us and Girlfriends (8 Seasons) were kept on (although that cliffhanger with Robert and Neesee was annoying) . The Game (which was a backdoor pilot on Girlfriends on UPN) , ran for 3 seasons , and for 6 on BET (Currently BET is trying to do a Season 10 of the show , with a completely different cast) .
The show could've lasted longer than it did, EVE was a funny show and I loved the intro.
Could have lasted at least 4 seasons. Well had she took it seriously 5 seasons. They usually dont go further than that. I have been around many actors when they admit their wrong years later get dont tell half of it. She most have been belligerent and straight up toxic!

Even if she so say took it seriously it was horrible nobody was watching it. They don't take off shows that has viewers

Her show got cancelled around the same time as the writers strike of 08 when the game and Girlfriends got cancelled as well. I wouldn’t blame her that much because most black shows during that time got cut.
And I thought it was the ratings too. I remember it being corny. A laugh or two here and there, and her acting was soso. Maybe I'm wrong but I remember my friends saying the same thing during that time.

I have to say that I just started watching Eve a few weeks ago. I was a very busy mother of 5, military wife, Japan, Hawaii, PR, CT, WA, I was very busy, and we moved a lot. A few weeks ago I am praying for something good to watch...and I see this show. And I said...let me see what it is about?
This show has some of the best comedy I have seen in a show like this. Maybe Married with Children tops my list. But...the timing of the comedy on this show was just flawless. I am so happy that I came across this show.
Natalie Desselle, dying of Cancer hurt me. Because as I am watching the show, I am looking at Wikipedia, and I want to see where everyone is today...they were all such good actors on this show. When I came upon her, my heart broke. I have Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer. I've had it for 6 years. Mets means that it is spreading to other parts and cannot be curred. This year while working in a hospital my cancer spread more...to my spine. And it was upsetting to see that she died of cancer. I am so sad. I hope the cure can be given to our people soon. They are hiding it from us.
I love how this show is about African American successful people...and all the white people in it are either illegal or silly models. LMAO!!!!!

The show ended because it was horrible and no one watched it anymore. Stations lose money trying to keep a program on thats not getting views. Thats why it ended. What she saying is irrelevant. People didn't watch anymore. No more no less

I hear what eve is saying and i respect her for that but UPN was using and axing black sitcoms around that time anyway so even if she was on point they would have still faced the same fate unfortunately

Christina Vidal of Nickelodeon's "Taina" shared the same thing when they canceled her show because she kept going to clubs and coming to table reads late. Sad.
Really? I never knew that. I loved Taina... Such an underrated show.
That can be apart of it but that’s not way her show was canceled. Taina was the number 1# show on that network. And literally the blueprint of every minority show that followed after it on Disney or other wise. It was canceled because at that time Nickelodeon market research showed that the show was heavily female audience. Again the best numbers ever. But they wanted more boys to watch I.e to sale and make toys and cloths. That’s not really a girl thing back in the day. So they cancel that to get the budget back in to start working on a male audience. Always look at the numbers and business of a network and you will see why a show got canceled.
I still watch taina to this day. That is my show. Christina Vidal is a clown and her sisters are good actresses too. One of her sister plays Mary Jane's best friend on being mary jane.
A couple of Taina cast members said in interviews that the show was canceled because the music costs went over the show's budget

LOL, she was already well off when she had the show started so I can see why she gave no fucks. Her money was set and royalties coming in. But seriously, she needed someone in the business to grab her by the hair and say look girlie, time to get serious to get more of this money. Janet Hubert used to allege that Will was every hard to work with early on with groupies, his boys and trying to turn the rehearsals and table reads into party time. One of the producers even complained about it but she was like Will was the star and he was a big name then as he was now so NBC didn't care as long as we met deadlines and kept the numbers up

Crazy how one's actions affect the 200+ people on production. At least she owns her mistakes. I loved Eve....didn't like how it ended. Goes to show actions have consequences. It's important to know it's not just you, you got 200+ ppl trying to support their families, to rob them of the coins, it's not cool.

It happens alot in the industry with stars who just don't act right. Redd Foxx was the reason Sanford and Son ended after 6 seasons despite it being in the Top 30. He wanted more money and more creative control but ABC gave him more money to do that ill-fated variety show that was canceled by Christmas 1977. Fred Berry and Ernest Thomas caused What's Happening to end after three seasons with fighting with producers for more money and producers stated since you feel we're racist white supremacists, go find non-racists to work for as we're ending the show.
The late Lucille Ball was devasted when her last series before she died, Life With Lucy was canceled. It was her first time ever being canceled and she never experienced that before. The series was so bad it was dropped after 7 episodes with the remaining 7 being shown in syndication on cable networks that air Lucy reruns. She took it to heart stating 'what about all of these people who work here, I know I'm fine and have money to eat off well past my death but these people worked their ass off just to be tossed aside, it saddened her.'
So yeah, some stars recognize the role they carry for others eating and some just get caught up. I'm glad Eve learned her lesson and I think she deserves another shot later on down the line. She's sexy and funny.

Eve should’ve at least had one more season! Especially with the cliffhanger of JT and his brother getting caught with that guy with the gun.
