This becomes even harder when the person they’re caricaturing fits the “average head” diagram. In this lesson you’ll learn how to overcome this artistic roadblock develop your caricature sketches using two subjects. The full lesson is available for premium students at proko.com/caric...

Love your style. They're methodical, structured, and no guessing game for mostly the part. You have a wider range of tackling different types of faces, even for an average face of treating a difficult scenario by drawing another one simultaneously. How did you come up with such a brilliant idea! I'm contemplating of buying one of your package lessons.

Thanks, Oscar. When I have been stuck drawing difficult faces in groups, I discovered how I could create better exaggerations comparing one face to another actual face. Teaching this subject forces me to examine my own working methods, and I figure out the principles behind the practices I use.

@ Proko :I would have known right away that it was George Clooney. The mouth gives it away. For me that seems to be the feature that makes or breaks a face. I'd like to ask how that you go about doing caricatures of people that society would call " ugly ". If this person asks you to do their caricature, how would you approach it ? What is the best way to not offend the person, but have it look like them ? Personally, I try and exaggerate other features that are less " ugly " in the face, or accentuate something about them that is " less ugly ", such as if they have nice eyes, I will accentuate that.
Despite this, some of my drawings come off as offensive. If a person has a big fat nose, with a wart on it the size of a penny, you can't just avoid it.
Do you choose an angle that shows it less ? Such as a side view ?
    Thanks !

love these videos! interesting technique. Just a question Court; since we are drawing three dimensional forms, would it be worthwhile to take up a course in sculpting the head? just wondering if its helpful in training our eyes/brain to pick up the subtle nuances in "average" faces

I am strongly supportive of artists working in different mediums and genres to help strengthen their core skills. Sculpting especially teaches you a lot about the structure of the face. And more than that, doing muscle studies in clay is one of the best ways to memorize and understand anatomy.

What if you would re-do the George caricature but in comparison with another face? The result will be kind of interesting I think... maybe exaggerating some other details.
