    Strange how so many people are commenting that I should have done more research or that I must not like my truck. It's utterly unbelievable to think that those same people have never wished or wanted something different about their truck, laughably so. I love my truck and have no real regrets at all about the choice to buy it.

    F350 owner here. The horn honks when you get out because it no longer detects the key in the vehicle. Leave the key inside and it doesnt honk.
    The small black square on the door handle does the same keyless entry feature as inserting your hand. I just place my thumb as I grab and it opens the way you desire.

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  6 лет назад +5

      That's interesting about your button on the handle. Mine only locks the door. I need to touch the inside of the handle to unlock.

      Big Truck Big RV you know what? I just went out and tried it. You are correct. I grabbed it slowly to actually watch how I do it and I do place my hand inside first with my thumb ending on the small square. Mine does seem to react pretty fast. I don’t seem to have the same delay.

      I am still having problems with my '17 F350. Some mornings it won't let me in the truck ( it's like the truck has gone to sleep) . After much cussing and trying to open it with the remote, it finally wakes up and let's me in. Also,the truck still doesn't recognize the remote is in the truck and won't start or after it starts a message comes up that " key not found". The local ford garage has had the truck one month out of the five I have had it. They now say that they are waiting on the engineers to come out with a update for the computer. Love the truck but this is
      becoming VERY aggravating.

      Big Truck is correct - the outside button is to lock the doors. If you have fingers on the inside and your thumb on the outside the vehicle is confused.

    • @kirkenstang
      @kirkenstang 6 лет назад +2

      I have the same issue with my F150 with getting in. Sometimes I wonder if my thumb is too close to the black square on the handle and the truck thinks I am trying to lock it. I have found only shutting the door to the first catch and not all the way, keeps my truck from honking. I’m just not a big fan of leaving my key in the truck in every circumstance.

    Never mind the naysayers and trolls. Your reviews of these trucks is valuable to those of us who need them. Bigger, more "amenities", bells and whistles does not necessarily add up to a better, stronger, safer and more reliable vehicle. Through reviews like yours, mfrs can get the idea to make things better and make them RIGHT. They also find out what people really want in a good truck.

    I recently replaced my old pickup and tried them all before deciding on the Ford. I think they all are great, just as you've stated and it's more a matter of personal preference rather than one being superior to another. I see the brand loyalists arguing on these comment sections all the time and wonder why. Perhaps, back in the day, there was reason to go one way or another for longevity or performance. But I don't see that as an issue any longer. When I purchased my old Dodge I had a fellow tell me, 'you'll be sorry' and when I asked him what he meant, he said, "you'll find out". With those ominous words, I drove thinking the tranny was gong to fall out or some such thing. Nothing could be further from the truth. It lasted me 11 years without major issues. What sold me on Ford this time around was fuel economy and performance. Next time, who knows.

    Love the channel, I think the negative comments aren't understanding or maybe I'm not what you are trying to say. To me it's about what your like to see or have. I have a 15 GMC 2500 LTZ Duramax there are things is like to see as well but it was either not an option or hasn't been done in a med duty. Comments and reviews like yours helps define the next truck. We can get the highest level package but there will always be something we see that manufacturers don't, but they hear us and adapt. Great channel because of your channel thinking of getting sulastics for my truck

    There's no doubt about it that you've got a real knack for providing a thorough, well thought out, detailed insight into new truck features and benefits. That said I challenge you to keep the existing 450 fro the next five years and provide a Followup report then. In addition, I encourage you to limit your reviews to non-personal truck selection for yourself. After reading some of the other subscribers comments here I would tend to agree - too many trucks in too short of time, non of which are perfect. You understand the optics.

    I have a 17 f-250 ruby red lariat. I love it for the most part. I do find during long drives the seats get uncomfortable. And the absolute worst thing that you also touched on is the safety chain loops on the hitch!!! No idea how they sent these trucks out like this! I use mine to tow ALOT and most people buying these trucks will. Makes no sense .

    yes the honking is annoying but it's just trying to take care of you, it's also aware of where its keys are so it doesn't want you to walk away with them with the truck on, that's how our 2017 fusion is, but anyway, beautiful truck, love the channel :)

    Heard your disapproval of the horn honk when you get out of the vehicle. This week my wife and I go to my work and she takes the truck back home. When I stepped out today to swap drivers, it honked at me twice informing me that I was leaving her without keys! At this scenario, it was a good feature. Not sure what would have happened if she drove away... stall, limp mode, or just strand her when she shut it off. I guess I will have to try that and see. Like your videos. 👍

  • @jeepkid518

    So glad to hear someone else is also annoyed by that horn honking. It's crazy you can't turn it off. What I do is leave my spare key fob in the car and the horn won't honk. I'm not saying this is a perfect solution, but it works for me.

    The fob is so big so you can hit the buttons when wearing winter gloves. I agree with the safety chain connection locations they are way to small of a opening against the hitch. I personally would have put the tire monitor sensors on the rear tires only. You should be able to see if your front tires are lower on pressure or feel it in the steering.

    • @roonytoon
      @roonytoon 6 лет назад +1

      Yes. That's exactly why it honks but why can't there be a way to turn it off? Every manufacturer has keyless start now. Ford is the only one I know who uses the horn to alert you.

  • @FixItYerself
    @FixItYerself 6 лет назад +3

    Thanks for the review. I don't like the idea of blinding everyone just because I'm towing a trailer. This seems like a serious safety issue that was "overlooked" by Ford when it could have easily been fixed on such a high-priced truck.

    Here's a tip, not sure if anyone below mentioned... If you don't want your truck's infotainment trying to access devices via usb like phones, dash cams or whatever else, you can look on amazon for "charge only usb cables". Those cables only pass thru the Ground & 5V signals, and not the data signals.

    Lots of good points. The nav system is so different from my 2016. I do like the new handles, not so much the feature you pointed out that makes it a pain. I added LED to my rear lights, the original bulbs go to hot and started to melt the sockets. The tailgate issue is crazy. I didn't even think about that when I opened a friend's 2018 F150 tailgate.

    Key fob isn’t too big but I have set off the alarm several times carrying heavy things and accidentally pushing the button. Washing the truck is interesting when water hits the lock button on the handle. I would think it puts undo stress in that sensor and mechanisms. On my F450 I can’t leave the running boards out. I would like to leave them out for door ding protectors and it looks are nice too. I am having a bit of trouble with the constant power to trailer 7 prong adapter right now. Doesn’t always seem to power my interior trailer lights. I am not a huge fan of the front bumper you put on but to each their own. I love your videos and keep up the good information.
    I absolutely love my truck as well.
    PS: I do get tired of Chevy guys with a single rear wheel truck wanting to grab race me for some kind of manhood or bragging rights.

      with a tire monitor it allows you to stop before damage if it picks up a nail.
      I useed a lazer temperature gauge to check tires and brakes temperature every time I stop too.
      On thing I learned the sun side of the truck and trl tires are 10 to 15 degrees hotter then shade side. I did stop using that a year ago. I now use the flir thermal image I bought for my android phone.

    I have owned lots of trucks, I’m a mechanic by trade and work on all diesels. I have not seen any of these yet but I’m excited to spend someone else’s money repairing one and also see what they are all about. But for now I just have not been able to move past my 7.3 that I use to pull a 33 foot bunkhouse fifth wheel, it seems to do great and the best part no payments, because diesel trucks can cost plenty for normal maintenance. If you have a chance I would like to see a video on cost of general service, fuel, air, and oil for this beautiful rig. Thanks a ton and keep up the great videos.

  • @JamesPhieffer

    As a professional (CDL) driver, I'd suggest you put the tire pressure sensors on your 4 rear axle tires. It's much easier to check your steer tires, while missing a low tire on a set of duals can cause anything from rapid wear to a blowout due to one tire being overloaded.
    But you are right that Ford should provide monitoring for all six tires.

    I think you hit some great points on this one. Non adjustable headlights, no TPS, 12V outlet rollback are big. The honking and mirror operation can be fixed with a software mod and the towing chain issue resolved with some shackles to loop your chains through. I also don't like the electronic only tailgate lock either. Love that color.

  • @joeertz3809

    well I would say that the process of opening the door is a blessing. If a car jacker comes up he is going to be flailing away trying to open the door and that gives you time to get your firearm out and take control of the situation.

  • @hill.964
    @hill.964 5 лет назад

    For the tire pressure go through the little menus behind the steering wheel and if you scroll right by one or two and scroll down about you can find tire pressure for all the tires and you can also add a little thing for the trail tires because it comes with both of them.
    But that all depends on the style of the truck, I have a lariet and it comes with the tire pressure things already in it so..
    I'm not trying to be rude I'm just trying simply just make a statement.
    Sorry if that offended you.

    I think it would be very informative to talk to a car towing company that has a fleet of newer diesel trucks and see what they think of DEF systems. I service a towing company that bought four brand new 2011 F-550s and every engine blew within 50,000 miles because the cylinder heads had bad valve seats and destroyed the engine. I wonder how well a truck holds up when it idles a good majority of its life and is driven 5,000 miles a month compared to us guys who may only drive 5,000 miles a year with a heavy load. Great channel and very informative! It would be nice to hear what a tow company thinks of modern diesels and the costs just to keep the DEF system working so it won't go into limp mode when they need the truck most.

    Interesting note about the rear proximity sensors. I've noticed on my Power Wagon, as soon as I put it in Tow/Haul it disables the rear. I like that the buttons are on the center stack too, when off-roading. They stay that way even after a key cycle, which is both good and bad if you forget to re-engage them, and have become somewhat dependent on them functioning. I really like the SD's, just wish Ford wasn't so damn proud of them. ($$$)

    Very nice truck. Beautiful color. Informative video as well. Ford for me are the way to go for trucks for luxury and work. The best thing I have done is eliminate ALL the emissions equipment on my 2011 6.7 Kings Ranch 350. No added power. I'm not crazy about loud diesels but makes a huge difference. Just my thoughts on the 6.7 motor. Love your ranch hand bumpers. Nice touch

    Have you tried looking at the infotainment ? You can scroll to different options, they have for tires psi and they probably have different options when you want the lights on or off or door unlock on all of the doors or just driver door unlock first. You need to play with the infotainment and learn of what you can do to adjust to your preference. They probably do have something to turn off the horn beeping. You can also go to the Ford service and have a service advisor help you with the situations.

    the headlight thing you mentioned, get auto-leveling air bags that will help raise the truck when there is weight in the bed. also little known fact, according to C.V.I.P regulations, unless your towing a trailer, your hitch can not be in your receiver. but that's for commercial vehicles tho

    I had a 2017 F-450 for 19 months and why I didn’t trade in earlier for the F-350 I don’t know... I too lost some money but not disastrous. You are right on target with the “not likes on new super duty. What I didn’t like about the F-450 was that the air suspension or rear suspension feels like you are on skates!
    I should have test driven it longer but oh well! I lost the turning radius of the F-450 but I gained “footing” with and without “weight” on the truck! I had only 14,000 miles on this truck in 19 months because none of us liked the “loose”rear end feel. On a side note the front right tire blew out and shredded the rim “empty weight” at 9,000 miles going 45 mph... serviced under warranty at Ford Dealership in Alice TX... but I do like the Ford super duty and I am happy with My new Platinum F-350... I have the identical truck in silver. It’s my 6th Super Duty dually. No off the shelf programmers available for F450. However, AG Diesel Solutions has a performance module that works well. The wheels are Alcoa copies. My 2016 F450 wheels (Alcoa look alike) actually said “Made in China” on the inside. I bought real Alcoa wheels and a set of Michelin XDS2 tire for it and had the deal transfer them to my 2017 as they run so much better than the Continentals. Great channel

    If you leave the cabin lights on and get out you have to power the truck back on to turn them off. I also wish you could cycle through more than 6 stations. Definitely needs a charging point above the radio in the recessed flat area. What about a power lifting tail gate? Or proximity sensing to unlock the doors.

    If you leave the key in the truck instead of in your pocket while it's running it won't honk when you get out, as long as you have combination entry keypad and know your entry code you don't have to worry about getting locked out.

    I had a 2008 450 and loved the turning radius when I wasn't towing, but I found that when I was towing my trailer, I over-torqued the trailer wheels when I would make a tight turn. Also, the extra leg room is nice, but unnecessary for most folks.

    If you leave your key in the truck it won’t beep when you close the door. Also, on my Explorer I never had issue with the door unlocking slowly. I’ve definitely seen it on other Ford’s though.

    I agree with most of your criticisms, but your statements on the key fob really hit home with me. I love my ancient 2003 E-350 Super Duty diesel van but the key fob was driving me crazy with constantly activating the Panic Button when I would carry the fob in my pocket. I couldn't find an easy way to completely disable the Panic Button 'feature' (people who have a concealed carry permit don't need a Panic Button) so I ended up cutting apart an outdated credit card and duct-taping the plastic over the Panic Button which prevents it from being depressed. It doesn't look like a similar 'fix' would work with your fob design though. It's astonishing how poorly designed these fobs are....almost as if they were designed by and for women to carry in their purses....

    1. If you don’t want your horn to honk when you lock the doors, try pushing the lock button on the inside of the door. You will have to get used to it, but you won’t have to take your keys out of your pocket.
    2. The button on the tailgate as opposed to a handle should be totally fine. I’ve got a Toyota Highlander that has a button on the the hatch and it’s never had a problem.

    So funny about your comment on the doors not unlocking quicker when opening the door. I try not to let it bug me too much. But I constantly pull the handle quicker than the doors unlock! I roll my eyes and have to lightly touch the handle and then pull on it. It's such a small thing but so very annoying. The horn double honk is absolutely ridiculous, too. Every time I get out to hook up the trailer the truck honks at me. As if I didn't know that I left it running while I got out.

    horn only honks when you take the key fob out with you while leaving it running, the purpose is to remind you its running. trick with the door handles (remember key must be close enough to work) is to pull the handle a first time it will unlock and pull it a second time and the door will open. just quick pull pull. I thought the key fob was a football. Well, this guy sure makes a lot of good points and they are honest. Amazing truck, if people didn't have comments like this trucks would NOT improve! Oh, by the way, try a Megacab, I guarantee you will NEVER buy a different style cab, ever again. I thought it would be too big as well, it is amazing, comes handy all the time and it turns a truck into something extra special. Other than my fleet trucks, I only buy Mega's. If I hold out for the HD RAM it's going to be a Mega.

    I think if you leave your key in the car while the engine is on it won't honk at you. The honk is to notify you the the key is no longer detected in the interior while the engine is running.

    The biggest problem I have with my F350 is the headlights. If I put any weight in the back or tow a trailer with something heavy like an excavator or skid loader, people always flash their bright lights in my face. I actually dread driving the truck at night.

    Love your videos. I have a 2018 F-250 diesel and I agree with most of your complaints especially the safety chain mounts. What an utter pain in the ass that is. Keep an eye out on your front oil pan, I recently started smelling oil burning and upon inspection I found a small leak in the front left side of the front oil pan. According to a family member who happens to be a diesel mechanic for Ford, tells me it’s a common problem and a very time consuming repair. Other than that I absolutely love the truck. Enjoy! Safe travels.

    you like the LED headlights, however how much heat do they produce, where I live in Canada you sometimes get sleet, and my ridged light bar doesn't produce enough heat to melt the ice build up on it. after 5-10 mins your lights don't produce a beam anymore.

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  6 лет назад +1

      +Adam Koerner: great question. The f450 has a far superior turning radius and overkill in terms of towing and braking are never a bad thing. Plus we have the flexibility of upgrading to a much larger and heavier fifth wheel without worry. But the turning radius improvement is the primary driver.

    Subscribed for awhile now and watching this video for the umpteenth time a couple of questions finally popped into my head. With that front winch bumper being installed, did you opt for the heavy service front suspension option or is the stock one more than enough? The second question is about the smart usb ports in the front. Would a USB data blocker work allowing your device to charge without auto connecting to the truck or would the truck software not allow voltage because of the data blocker? Love the channel and thanks for all that you do.

    Nice video! Only complaint on my 17 f250 is the tpms. Any pot hole that is hit will throw the system off. I hit one the other day and it told me i had 2psi. It corrected itself after 30 mins or so. Still an annoyance. Only other complaint is the noise from heated/cooled seats. On high setting, its louder than i would like. But, from the 01 f150 i had its worlds apart.
    On the hitch, run some shackles. Fit good and no issues with chains anymore.
