    Do you struggle to find your editing style? Or do you think you already have it defined? It took me years to be happy with mine. 😅

      Yes, I hate editing. I really only make minor adjustments. I'd rather be out shooting than sitting in front of my PC. I try to get what I want through the lens. I'm tired of over photoshopped pictures, it's a great tool, but many times overdone.

    Who else is struggling with liking lots of different styles? I love moody, grainy, blues, but also warm images that glow. I know you can do both, but I worry about having too many different styles, as it makes it harder for my clients to recognise my work. Plus I want my own signature style

    Yet again, another 10/10 for content - encouraging people to be themselves and find their own style rather than "Do this like me!" or "Buy my stuff and be brilliant!" You are such a breath of fresh air on RUclips Laura, long may it continue!

    I appreciate this soooo much.
    The Virgo in me is SUCH a perfectionist so I found myself wrecking my brain trying to figure out how to "properly" edit photos. I kept asking myself "How do I edit correctly if photography is art and art is subjective due to what you like???"
    Your channel is truly a Godsend and a breath of fresh air.
    I also TRULY appreciate the fact that you're anti- ONE NICHE ONLY. lol

    I seem to have finally settled into an editing style and I have begun to get lots of comments on the quality of my photography. This is very encouraging even though I only do this as a hobby. I can't seem to get to the point that people want to hire me to do this. Thanks so much for your advice.

    👍...You are an inspiration, Laura.!! 👍
    My own style of photo used for my greeting cards was found by accident (through experimenting with taking pictures of obscure subjects), and editing for them fell into place naturally because it was something generated from my own mind.
    Depending on how it's edited, one photo can yield three different images.

    Fantastic Video Laura! It really made me think about my own style. And I realized - I don't have one. I don't have a specific genre either. When I look at someone like you. You are 100% an amazing professional photographer with a specific style. And I think that is so important in your field. But if you take someone like me that does it for a passion hobby. Do you feel it is ok not to have a style? That it is ok to play with different ideas and moods? Or do you think everyone should be working for a certain style? I really love your videos.

    I don't know why it wasn't obvious to me, but the clarification of not being able to edit low light and sunny photos the same is super useful 😅. I thought there was some magic way of applying a preset and make ALL photos the same. I'm guessing then there must be like 2 or 3 styles one must develop to fit into sunny/low light/night photos, and not just one.

    Hola Laura! This is exactly where I'm at! Despite of my genre is sports photography, I am trying to create some sort of a "signature" that would identify what I do have in mind. I have found it hard and one of the reasons is that I shoot different sports and each one can't be edited in the same way .
    Have been study color theory as I seek at least a criteria to define my (future) style.

    Last summer, i found myself starting editing my photos in a more dark way! And the last 4 months i think i found my edit style which is a filmy/retro mood, looking like i shot my photos with a film camera...(i was born in 1990, so films were the only way of taking photos for all my childhood and my teenage years, so it's natural i'd be drawn to this mood for my photos)!
    Personally i always edit a preset more so i can bring the photo in the result I have visualised and if I like an edit of my own, i save it as png so i can have it saved and it works i can say pretty good!
    And as for my food/product photos, my main inspiration is pinterest! In my opinion, it gives the best ideas, and many times i find myself studying these photos
    "oh so the light is placed on 10 or 11 and there is a reflector maybe on 6...yeah and maybe some black blocking light on 7" etc so i can understand better still life photography...
    Thank you again for this video 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

    Presents... I worked many years in Lightroom, but only had small percent success with presets. You need to create you own style, and build it from the ground, so you learn, and know what to change if your preset doesnt work on an other photo. Just my two cents.

    Laura, do you recommend a specific computer for editing ?

  • @FT-xe2xo
    @FT-xe2xo Год назад +1

    What about editing photos without specific color grade? For example; all photos are edited in Lightroom in "natural colors" (greens are greens, not lime/grayish, etc.), but each photo has a unique look that depends on the particular setting.
    Example, you shoot one portrait under the neon light, other portrait is in the forest. Each portrait has natural colors but in first one, neon light is edited, more saturated, what not. In other one, green dominates and you make necessary corrections to it.

    • @LauraBC
      @LauraBC  Год назад +1

      That’s absolutely ok as well. If you prefer natural colours, that’s your unique way to edit your work and it’s also valid. You don’t necessarily need to colour grade if you don’t want to do so. Having a natural style is also a style. 😊

    • @FT-xe2xo
      @FT-xe2xo Год назад

      @@LauraBC Dont get me wrong, I absolutely love looks like your moody greens, I love also brownish tones. Did something like that myself. But I struggle to implement it in various situations. Editing in natural color grade makes stuff more adaptable
