Even if they were rare they still existed. Main characters are always special in a way, especially for children/young adult fiction. Fun and educational

Just wanted to state what I know as I’m into Viking history
To elaborate
The most common place you would see people with darker skins tones in the Scandinavia during the viking era would be among slaves
However it would still be rare to see them as slaves because vikings most commonly raided Britain, Ireland and Francia as it was easier then going Mediterranean. Thus, the vast majority of slaves where Caucasian.
And it would be much rarer for slaves to be able to gain freedom and convince other Vikings to allow them to go on raids given it was socially acceptable to discriminate back then
It’s not just some people being the wrong race, but every character doesn’t look how the book describes them
Them being the wrong race doesn't matter as long as they can give the proper attitude to the character like Riordan said
@@whateverwhatever4476 Race does matter here when you have to consider that they're all supposed to be Greek, who have generally more olive-tinted and lighter skin. I get that everyone needs to be inclusive and diverse or whatever these days, but there's nothing wrong with accuracy and sticking to the source material, especially when the physical characteristics are the first thing people notice about most characters, and if it doesn't look at least similar to what you'd expect, a viewer can find it distracting. For Zeus to be a bald black man is so jarring, because, while the realistic expectation is that we should see a northern Mediterranian man, we see someone different and it makes it harder to believe the character.
Of course, for a character who doesn't have any established skin color from the books like Grover, seeing him as white, black, or anywhere between are all valid options, as long as the hair style and face structure match.
Then there's Annabeth, whose physical features are described very often in the books. They mention her stormy, piercing gray eyes multiple times, but in this series, I don't see evidence of that. The only visually interesting part of her look is her hair, but even that is inaccurate. Long flowing strawberry-blond hair may be a "stereotype of beauty standards" or whatever so people want to change it, but even so, the character of Annabeth canonically has that feature, and for many (including myself), she can't look like anything other than that description, or else she is no longer Annabeth.
@@yobud6637 wow imagine pressed cuz fictional characters and ppl from myth weren’t casted white in a tv show. Yes it is based on Greek myth specific to European culture but come on, there’s more important things in the world to be complaining and sooking about than characters not being casted white. At the end of the day it was Rick who had the last say in casting and as long as Rick got the casting he envisioned I don’t get what why ppl like you are so pressed. “She’s no longer Annabeth” just cuz the casting isn’t a strawberry blonde white girl with grey eyes, seems like microaggression to me.

There’s a lot of differences, and while I do sort of wish it stayed more faithful to the series, it’s not bad. But they made Gabe kinda likable

I understand things were changed but Rick is on the writing staff of the show all changes had to go though him unlike the movies. Rick said he would fix mistakes he made in the books as well as make the changes we wanted to make in order to make the sorry better.

@@BSP435 Her father was the descadent of people of European descent. Is it not logical to conclude then that she would also be of European descent given that she’s half god and half human? And that both the god and human are Caucasian?
As a reader of the series as a kid I’m not a fan of how much has been changed. Or how fast paced it is. It’s cramping way too much in such a short time. It was kind of the same in the books but it was done better. Also it’s made by Disney so I have zero faith it’ll be good for long.
I feel the same, a lot of important scenes were changed and rushed.
They should have let a different company produce this like legendary pictures

I know they cast the show Annabeth bc she fit the personality of the book, however she only fits the personality of book 1 Annabeth, i dont see this girl being able to change and become the emotionally vulnerable and love interest with Percy that happens in the book

Not once is she said to be White

Everyone immediately thinks of this image of some white preppy chick in bel air or some shit. Stop beating around the bush. She was without a doubt white in the books

Actors have always metamorphised into their roles, this actress was chosen by the author. I actually really didn't like the adaptation but not because of some little girl.

I'm not a fan of what they did to Annabeth, I don't care if there are people of different races in movies and TV shows, cuz that's totally fine, but I don't approve of race swapping at all. Regarless of which it is. I don't like that she looks nothing like how she is described in the books. Some minor changes I'm fine with, but this is too much.
I don't get why Disney is having a wierd fetish for blackwashing characters recently. When it comes to Asian, African, Hispanic etc, they are so dedicated to make sure they stay this race, but white? Nah, just make them black. I can't be the only who think they are basically insulting their white fans.

I don't think the actors and actress are the problem i feel like the make up artist are so lazy.
For walker they cldve died his hair black and he wldve been book accurate, same with her playing as Annabeth die her hair blond and use her natural curly hair in the first season that wld work fine without dismissing diversity from an actress.
I've seen people like her died their hair blonde while being natural with their hair with their culture and their race that wldve been amazing.
