I think your teaching style and the way you go about not jargonising the terms to be 'scarier' then they really are is sure effective for me. Your videos have made up the majority of my revision just to watch when I am on the bus or whatever and I have now been predicted an A* thanks to your help. I cannot thank you enough.

Also, this isn't related to this video in particular, but is there any chance of you making a video on the 6/7 required practicals we have to learn for this upcoming AS exam? And is there a possibility of also making a video on the Mass Spectrometer in the topic of Atomic Structure? Sorry to be a pain!
I know this is a long shot but is there any chance of covering some of the WJEC spec? There are literally no videos of the old spec A2 on youtube the lack of resources for us is embarrassing, thankyou very much for the videos though great stuff
+jake Unfortunately not. It's not that I don't want to, I just don't have the time to do it. You should find that there is a lot of cross-over between AQA and WJEC (although there will likely be some differences too).
Excellent video! I just started doing 3.3.5.1/2/3 today, so this is excellent timing. I have some what of a request/suggestion - the AQA has provided specimen papers on their website for the upcoming AS/A2 papers, perhaps you could do a work through of them? On a personal note - I'm a private candidate doing the AS & A level together this year and your videos are a massive help, I will certainly be making a donation to your paypal as I always give credit where its due so thank you!

With my teacher hat on I am always wary of going through certain papers as I know that people may want to use them as mocks. In your personal opinion as a teacher; would working through each unit systematically (e.g. 3.1.1 > 3.1.2 etc.), then moving on to the next unit (3.2.1 > 3.2.2 etc) until you've covered the AS spec before going on to the A level stuff in the same fashion a good way to work through the syllabus? I'm on the last 2 sub-units now of AS Organic Chem & then that's AS covered and I haven't had any problems yet.
+E Rintoul Yeah that seemed the most straight forward. I'm sitting my AS papers and my A2 papers in 2016, and believe it or not I have covered all of it in a month - I was in mechanical engineer for an offshore company, but due to the recent oil crash I've been out of work and am retraining as a chemical engineer - I have a lot of time to devote to chemistry (4-5 hrs a day broken up much alike periods in school). I'm pretty confident I can achieve the A I need to get on the course I want at university.

can you do a video of the conditions for alcohol oxidation, like when do the reaction need to use H2SO4 or H3PO4 for hydration and dehydration. please!

Chromium has, in K2Cr2O7, an oxidation state of +6. It's in a very happy position here to reduce itself to Cr(III). So it will gladly oxidize the alcohol in the process. We use it because, this makes it an awesome oxidizing agent.
Nothing! Because the ketone can't be further oxidised, it can't loose any electrons to be given to the ions in Tollens solution for the silver to separate and form the mirror on the test tube! Hope this helps :)

What if its a diol? Like ethan 1 2 diol, if its oxidized does it make a carboxylic acid?

What if there is an alcohol with two hydroxyl groups? How would you know if it is a primary secondary or tertiary?
we may not need to know about that but check the specification and see what it says
