  • Outlining oxidation reactions of alcohols. What oxidation reactions are in organic chemistry, the oxidation of a primary alcohol to an aldehyde and then carboxylic acid and the oxidation of a secondary alcohol to a ketone as well as the conditions needed for each. The use of acidified potassium dichromate (VI) as an oxidising agent is shown, along with the identification of aldehydes using Fehling’s solution and Tollens’ reagent.
