Great review!! Keen eye and ear on their vocal prowess. But I feel it necessary to let you know for the future, Cynthia’s last name is Erivo (uh-Ree-voh). She’s one award win away from EGOT status and I feel like this movie very well may get her there.
Cynthia was amazing in The Color Purple on Broadway. I had to see it 4 times, I was so taken with her genuine performance. And now, Elphaba. More brilliance. Keep on singing, Cynthia! 🌟🎶🌟
I agree with your assessment of Jeff Goldblum..as an actor, you never get a sense of the characters he’s portraying, you just see Jeff Goldblum, the quirky guy who acts more with hands and monotone cadence than anything…😅.. He gestures the same in every single role.. Its unnerving..😂
The Madam Morrible and Elphaba spell lessons and overall relationship makes the twist at the end even more heartbreaking. The play doesn't have the time to show it but man it's effective in the movie.
I actually disagree with Jeff Goldblum being the weakest link because for me he portrayed Oz’s BS personality and how conish…also his song I really liked as well. Overall my favorite movie of the year.
Thanks for the great review! I have never seen the play, but I am going to see it December 22nd at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood so I will see part 1 of the movie in November so I feel like I won't be waiting a year to see how it concludes! I can't wait, I have heard nothing but good things so far about both productions :D I am going to share the experience with my two daughters!
Great review! Seeing Wicked tomorrow and I'm super excited! I wish I could bring my parents but they can't understand English very well. If the movie exceeds my expectations, I'll take them to a local theatre that plays with Korean subtitles and watch it again ahaha
Great Review!! I have been a fan of the musical since I saw it in Broadway, in September of 2003. I saw the musical with the Original Cast. My expectation for thsi movie based on the past Musical adaptation to the big screen I was hoping for the best but expecting another CATS and Mean Girls fiasco. Jon M Chu did what should be expected for a good musical adaptation, it not only catered to the Wicked Fandom but also was an amazing story, cast, and setting for a first-time viewer. Bravo for everyone who brought this modern masterpiece to life, thank you from this 55yr Old theater kid for renewing my faith in what made me fall in love with the theater in the first place.
I agree, Chris, with your assessment of Jeff Goldblum. He always plays himself and never disappears into the role. Yes, he’s probably funny, and charming as usual, but there are lots of veteran actors that are no longer stars but could convey the Wizard as a stranger to the audience. Someone the audience doesn’t know and can begin to discover. I liked your review, I’m now certain I do want to see Wicked!
Yeah I know I will! I was excited to see Joker 2 until the Reviews came out still haven't seen it for myself I have 2nd hand Disappointment 😕 and then wicked I wasn't even going to go see and then reviews are coming and now I'm getting excited for it I might watch gladiator 2 too this weekend 😁👍
@ I didn’t hate Joker 2 tbh. It’s a little bit of a tough watch because there are SO MANY songs and it gets a bit repetitive, but I admired the big swings it took and it raises some very interesting ideas
Gonna see this tomorrow and hopefully friday, when i convince ti bring my parents, or one of them along. Glad you and your daughter had a great time with it.
I absolutely loved this movie, it took everything not to applaud after almost every performance. Dancing through life, I agree, was fantastic. I would say that the broadway shows Galinda was a bit more bareable than Arianas. I think being up close and her performance did encapsulate the character, and the manurisms were great. But she was a bit more unlikeable due to feeling that her actions weren't because of her big heart but in her own self-interest. One Short Day....wow....and if you have seen the history of Oz... then double OMG!!!!! That's how you do it. Let's just say that creciendo was never paired with Harry on a broom, which made it epic....Im glad I broke the ice at the end by applauding. It definitely deserved it!!! I love Goldblum in everything....I thought he did great here...but we will see in part 2 what they will do. No singing part for Keala Settle...I got goosebumps seeing her in this and was excited. Hopefully, she will have a song in Part 2. I am curious though Chris on which song was new? They all seemed to be in the musical as well
When Idina and Kristen had their cameo, I nearly jumped out of my seat! Cynthia and Ariana were amazing. I can understand your reservations about Jeff Goldblum, but I have to disagree with you ...I thought he made a great Wizard. He was wonderfully creepy when he was playing off Madame Morrible. This is absolutely the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen.
I’m very excited too see it heard soo many great things bout it and box office projections are strong for this weekend I believe it can get a billion dollars cuz good word of mouth 91% critics score 99% Audience also agree wish they pick someone else instead use Jeff Goldblum like the actor but Jeff Goldblum is Jeff Goldblum in all of his roles nothing different
I wish they would stop splitting movies just to two parts. A sequel is one thing, but stopping a movie in the middle of the story seems self-indulgent and like money-grubbing.
Jesus… she had a bad day. Get over it. Given the racist vitriol that emerged online when she was cast, I think her anger was misplaced and she lashed out at something that wasn’t intended with ill intent.
Sorry Chris, as a semi-socialist, neo-conservative, pseudo-barbarian, masculine new-age grumpy old bastard...I am offended by this level of woke, toxic cultural and racial appropriation!!! Actually, I just hate musicals! 🤪🤣
for context, this film is an adaptation of a musical that when it opened in the UK in 2006, an audience member told the composer, "you’re really taking on the Bush Administration, aren’t you?" The composer, Stephen Schwartz: "We actually wrote the show when Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld were in the midst of rallying up support to attack Iraq for what we now know were non-existent WMDs (weapons of mass destruction) in the possession of Saddam Hussein. So elements of Saddam’s vilification were definitely on our minds, and worked into our treatment of the material." And the Gregory MacGuire book that the stage show is based on is even more political.
I am not convinced. I 💚 Idina Menzel as Elphaba! The leading 2 are such a disappointment. This movie seems like its for the teenie boppers. Grande doesn't look mature enough, this reminds me of that terrible Cinderella remake on Prime. Also, that green makeup doesn't look very good either. I'd only watch it for Goldbloom, lol. I can't believe you're saying HE'S the negative here. I don't believe it.
Almost all critics and fans who have seen this film so far have given a positive review for it. It has 92% critics and 99% audience approval on rotten tomatoes with 130 and 2.5k+ verified users respectively. I think it’s a bit close minded of you to judge it when you haven’t even seen the film.
Actors? Actresses. Actor is male. I remember going to school learning about masculine and feminine pronouns. Actor is not gender neutral because the word actress exists
Great review!! Keen eye and ear on their vocal prowess.

Nah
I thought he was perfect 🩷
She was singing while she was actually doing her own flying. There's a featurette you might enjoy.
I don’t know if you’re aware of how on the nose you are when you said Johnathan baileys fiyero was “brainless” ;)
The Madam Morrible and Elphaba spell lessons and overall relationship makes the twist at the end even more heartbreaking. The play doesn't have the time to show it but man it's effective in the movie.

You are in for an incredible treat... both with the stage and the cinema!! I hope you three have a spectacular time!
Great review! Seeing Wicked tomorrow and I'm super excited! I wish I could bring my parents but they can't understand English very well. If the movie exceeds my expectations, I'll take them to a local theatre that plays with Korean subtitles and watch it again ahaha
I really like Jeff Goldblum, doing his Walt Disney impersonation! Complete with the little prototypes community of tomorrow

I agree with you on Cats 😝 But I disagree with you on Mean Girls I loved that movie 🎥 🥰 and I bought it on DVD 📀😁👍
@ are we talking about mean girl remake based on the musical or the original mean girls?
I have reservations about this movie as well. Glad you liked it.

I wasn’t planning on seeing this but now, after the reviews, I probably will
Yeah I know I will!

Yes!! I am happy that my excitement was justified can’t go wait to go with my kid 😊
Gonna see this tomorrow and hopefully friday, when i convince ti bring my parents, or one of them along. Glad you and your daughter had a great time with it.
I hope you have a blast!

The new song was the special one in Oz featuring a couple of special performers 😁😁
@MoviesAndMunchies it's been 20 yrs since I've seen the musical. I thought that was played out in it as well.
seeing it Friday I'm PUMPED! I've seen the musical 3 times
My mom and I saw it tonight. We’ve seen the musical 3 times, too.
100% agreed with everything you said. This was a FILM
Erivo is pronounced “uh-REE-vo”, otherwise great review, thank you!
Thank you. Great review, but this was driving me crazy. lol
Good review!👍👍👍
When Idina and Kristen had their cameo, I nearly jumped out of my seat! Cynthia and Ariana were amazing. I can understand your reservations about Jeff Goldblum, but I have to disagree with you
...I thought he made a great Wizard. He was wonderfully creepy when he was playing off Madame Morrible. This is absolutely the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen.
How come I just found out it’s a part one when the reviews came out? lol
Diverse cast! Huge applause 👏 no other Wicked musical has a diverse cast like the Wicked movie 🎥
Love the glasses you look fabulous
It’s actually told from glindas perspective
Great review!!!
This is wicked good!!!
Go see it with some dunkin and have a few parliaments
5/5 ????? Wow
It was mostly practical sets
Cynthia was great but I was held back by all the horrible stereotypes and cliches.
OMG the way you pronounce Erivo is driving me crazy LOL
Fantabulistic is not a word
Erivo - Er-ee-vo not Ervo 😊
It’s so gooood
🧙🏽
Please, pronounce Miss Erivo's name correctly, in the future.
I wish they would stop splitting movies just to two parts. A sequel is one thing, but stopping a movie in the middle of the story seems self-indulgent and like money-grubbing.
It’s mirrors the broadway show
When the actors get all fired up and aggressive over a fan made poster. You can count me out 😖
Jesus… she had a bad day. Get over it. Given the racist vitriol that emerged online when she was cast, I think her anger was misplaced and she lashed out at something that wasn’t intended with ill intent.

Actually, I just hate musicals! 🤪🤣
So how WOKE was it??
do people really still use this term..
for context, this film is an adaptation of a musical that when it opened in the UK in 2006, an audience member told the composer, "you’re really taking on the Bush Administration, aren’t you?"
The composer, Stephen Schwartz: "We actually wrote the show when Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld were in the midst of rallying up support to attack Iraq for what we now know were non-existent WMDs (weapons of mass destruction) in the possession of Saddam Hussein. And the Gregory MacGuire book that the stage show is based on is even more political.
Just was going to say that. This smelled woke from the start.
@@chaarli4681 yep
how old are you?
I am not convinced. I 💚 Idina Menzel as Elphaba!

I'd only watch it for Goldbloom, lol. I can't believe you're saying HE'S the negative here. I don't believe it.
You do you. Why people love pitting great artists against eachother is a mystery to me.
Almost all critics and fans who have seen this film so far have given a positive review for it. It has 92% critics and 99% audience approval on rotten tomatoes with 130 and 2.5k+ verified users respectively. I think it’s a bit close minded of you to judge it when you haven’t even seen the film.
@camelliasinensis219 Well I saw the trailer and that was enough. Who cares about critics and audience? Lol! I know what I like.
Actors? Actresses. Actor is male. I remember going to school learning about masculine and feminine pronouns. Actor is not gender neutral because the word actress exists
Idk what kind of retarded school you went to but 'actor' and 'actress' are nouns, not pronouns
still not watching it i prefer gladiator 2
Gladiator 2 was good
