The first is on my all-time favorites list. I really enjoyed the sequel, but not as much as the original. I do think it's a great companion piece to the original, even if it can't quite rise to the same level. I'm beyond impressed that an 86-year-old director delivered such an epic and energetic film.
All the people saying this movie is bad are expecting too much period. If it wasn't a sequel to Gladiator people would see this as just a fun good film. The first movie was a masterpiece so people are disappointed and of course I understand.....the first is my favorite but I still had a great time with this one. I mean did anyone really think it was going to be as good as the first one? Come on guys lol
They advertised it as a sequel, they referenced and copied most of the first movie, it should be compared to the original. If they wanted to make something different it would've been no problem, but here we are. If these 2 movies had nothing to do with one another and we were to compare them the first one would still be great and this one just a cheap copy, first would still have a compelling story you are invested in, a protagonist you cheer for, while this one has some plot bits thrown together and a protagonist that doesn't know what he's mad for, or what he wants to do. How is it possible to care for Maximus's family despite them having just some mere seconds of screen time, right before they die while not giving a damn about Arishat's death here despite her being more present and the sole reason for Hanno's quest for revenge.
Watched it last night and really dug it. It’s a little bit of a rehash but I was definitely entertained! I think it’s going to be a big hit. My audience ate it up
I like your reviews very much. I have already watched Gladiator 2, and I found the story very poor. Didn´t like the protagonist, but liked Denzel Whashington and Paul Pascal. The cinematography was well made, although the fantasy elements were a bit too much. Maybe this is a movie for the younger generations. I loved the Gladiator from 24 years ago, the soundtrack and the action scenes, the carisma from the main character, and the emotion that we brought back from the cinema.
The movie will do well overseas. It might not do so well in America because of the current ludicrous "culture war" that permeates not only the divisive political environment, but also the entertainment sector.
@@ibrahimsuleiman8473 I do, but when the movie ended, most of the people there were disappointed, so based on that I can generalize a little bit. Did you watch the movie?
I'm from overseas and the reviews for this one are a lot harsher than the US reviews. The first movie is well beloved here, despite all the historical inaccuracies, because it was truly an epic with a charismatic and relatable character as Maximus. I think the weak link in Gladiator II is very much the protagonist, his motivations are illogical and this makes the entire revenge plot fall apart
Gladiator revived the "Swords and Sandals" sub-genre, so a sequel is risky. I'm skeptical, but hoping it won't be terrible. I am impressed Ridley Scott is still directing...good for him!!
I like to watch movies at home in closed captions to appreciate the dialogue. Do the dialogues and accents make it hard to hear what they’re saying? Thx
I’m skeptical of any review where there reviewer keeps fawning over each and everything about a movie. This strikes more of being a reactor than a reviewer. Also… you said the two emperors are terrifying because they are “unpredictable”… right after explaining how they are essentially caricatures of people which would make their actions very predictable.
Certainly a different film than "Eye sore". Dreadful at best. A film, for which you can walk out of the cinema, with your head held high knowing that you are doing the right thing.
Average, at best, movie. A pointless sequel. A sequel after 24 years and ths is the story they were able to came up with? A rehash of the first movie with same crap CGI?
G2 is an insult to the first film. Terrible dialogue, terrible acting, DEI everywhere, a rip-off of much of it. Mescal has no charisma. But you would like him, wouldn't you.
My only worry is, and I don't wish to get political, is if the movie is woke. I've heard some reviews and rumors say some weird stuff, which was kind of disappointing, but I hope to see it for myself.

Maximus cheated on the love of his life and had another son!? Also they went full simple jack on one of the emperors.
the smaller emperor has syphillis, that’s why he’s so crazy. The brother discloses this to Denzel’s character
Thought the screenplay was horrible.
Just found your channel, very thorough review man thanks! Looking forward to watching this weekend!
I like your thorough approach.

But it sucks no matter if it's a sequel or not
@ludwiggengnagel6093 I liked it and so did all of my friends and family who have seen it. 😊

Epic film but obviously not a patch on the original masterpiece.
Very good sequel !!
Yes!I will be entertained!!
I loved the movie, despite the many critical detractors.
I was entertained.
I loved this movie, and I thought Gladiator 2 had way more fun battle scenes. However, it is only a movie great review.
Got my tickets for tomorrow!
“Abby someone. Abby normal I believe.”
Lol
That's at least 3 couches more than I was very worried you were going to give it Chris! Now I have to see it! ;)
I’m in the same boat as you! I had zero interest in seeing it, now I will give it a chance!
Can't wait to watch this!
Is it better than Troy (Brad Pitt)?
"Are you entertained?!' Yes, yes I was.

"Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?" for some reason i remembered that line 😄
🤣😂 Surely you're not serious.

LOVE your shirt!!!
I am there !!! Loved the O.G, and, after your review, I anticipate that I will really enjoy II.
Denzel is killed by Mescal at the end. Has his hand cut off.
@eddiedevereoxford4995 the movie was awesome !!
Your childishness did not hinder me at all. Nevertheless, may you go deaf and blind. Asap.
Superb sequel 💕

It won't do that well, we have a direct comparison for it, anyone who is a fan of the original will be disappointed by the sequel

❤❤❤❤ I love it and it was grubbing with the actions scene. Total entertainment tonight !
The movie is not bad..but its all happening in the colosseum. It does not come even close to the original.
How was the score tho?

Shut up
Basically no accents:)

It's bad. Really really bad.
Film was garbage . Absolute no need for it and just repeating old beats from the original.
Bad rehash at best

This movie was uninspired, bland and re-hash of a much better movie
