Very nice playthrough of this expansion, this is exactly what I was looking for. There were a few minor mistakes I'd play to point out: 1) Glai played Mars University and Olympus Conference in the very beginning, both of which have card drawing effects every time she plays a science tag, but she forgot to use those effects for the majority of the game, which is a huge detriment as she would have gotten better/more cards. 2) Mining Area and Mining Rights are different. Mining area requires you have a tile of your colour adjacent to a mining spot, that's why it was cheaper.
Hi Bankotsu! Thank you very much for your comment. We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed the playthrough. Thanks for letting us know about the mistakes. Terraforming Mars is a pretty big game with lots going on so sometimes we can miss things, but it is good for people who want to see how the game works to know that those were errors, so thanks for pointing them out. I hope they did not ruin your enjoyment of the video!
As a (solo) board gamer of maybe 20 years, I thought I'd found all the Board game channels on YT. But now I've found you guys. Browsing your channel, there's some very promising content. I got Terraforming Mars at Christmas with Prelude. I like it so much that I want to get more expansions. Any recommendations for solo play? Looking forward to watching you more. Thank you.
@mdcs1992 Thank you very much for the comment. We hope you find some videos you can enjoy on our channel! Prelude is definitely the most essential expansion for TM. After that, just to change things up from time to time, it is good to get the Hellas and Elysium board. It has a 2-sided board with different layouts, bonuses, milestones and awards. Colonies is probably the best expansion after that. It gives a new way to trade for resources. Hope you enjoy the game - it is one of our favourites!
@@AllAboardBoardgames Colonies, Hellas & Elysium and Turmoil already on their way to me! Thanks for the helpful reply and I'll look forward to watching your channel flourish.
Good stuff guys. I enjoyed watching the playthrough. Glai was spot on when she said she should have pushed to end the game sooner. She was clearly in the lead a few generations from the end. In my experience, awards and milestones often decide the outcome of many games, since each one is a ten point swing. I always try to make sure I don't lose that race. I would have liked to see you use the Solar Phase, since a game going this many generations have a tendency to become a little "unwieldy" toward the end.
Hi SIrbrastias. I hope all is well there with you. Yes, Glai should absolutely have ended the game sooner. I think because of her Physics Complex and Security Fleet the extra 3 points per generation might have looked nice, but it did indeed let me catch up on the Awards, which was what won it in the end. I think you are right about the Solar Phase. Next time we play with Venus Next we'll do some World Government Terraforming so that it doesn't get too long. I was wondering if you ended up going for any of the Azuls or a different game to play with your daughter in the end?
@@AllAboardBoardgames Hi Pat. I forgot to congratulate you for some clever play and what in the end was a well deserved win. So...congrats! I haven't bought any of the Azuls yet, but I did recently buy "Roll Player". I'm not sure if I should be annoyed or proud (probably both) but my daughter has beaten me twice already. That said, I'm confident I'll beat her soundly when we play Terraforming Mars tomorrow. Looking forward to your next video.
Thank you SIrbrastias. Roll Player seems really fun. How was it for you? Haha - if your daughter beats you in Terraforming Mars you will have another annoyed/proud dilemma but I have faith in you! Let me know how it goes!
@@AllAboardBoardgames Roll Player is a nice, fairly simple puzzle game. Probably best at 3-4 players. And yes, order is restored at home. I beat the 10-year-old by some margin in TM (likely because I have 50+ more plays and 35 years more gaming experience!). She did come in second though, beating my old gaming buddy. I guess he needs to work on his game.
@@SIrbrastias Ahaha... order is restored, is it? Congratulations on your win. It's great that you were able to bring forth all that experience and restore order! Hello. Yes, we have used just the Colonies and Venus Next expansions without Turmoil. In fact, we rarely use Turmoil as it seems to us to be a bit detached from the base game. We always play with Prelude - I would say that once you use Prelude you would never leave it out. Venus Next is ok - it adds another track but really doesn't make too much of a difference to the game. Colonies on the other hand is excellent. It gives you new ways to generate resources and also gives a lot more value to Energy production. If you were wondering what expansions to get, in order of priority I would say: 1) Prelude 2) Colonies 3) Hellas & Elysium 4) Venus Next 5) Turmoil.
Hi Lenny. We did not use the Solar Phase this time but sometimes we do. The World Government Terraforming is certainly a good way of making sure the game doesn’t go stagnant if nobody is increasing those parameters.
Whole some end!
Thank you for watching!

Pat forgot to 2x increase TR after raising Venus rating and placing ocean in Gen 14.
Anyway good job guys!
Thanks drussbarb. TM is a pretty busy game so it is easy to forget some things here and there. Glad you enjoyed the video!

Pat: I think you missed to score three TR for increasing Venus two times and one water placement, but I guess it didn´t matter in the end.
Thank you jankogo! There is so much going on in Terraforming Mars that it is easy to forget sometimes. I have made a note in the Klingon subtitles.
