if an older male idol cried like that, kpop stans would say "omg he's so cute." a young female idol does this and she's a "pick me," "acts like a baby," "fake and cringe," and "attention seeking." the double standards 💀

i feel like a difference might be the fact that eunchaes unnies are quite a bit older than her and in their twenties, treating her with more patience and babying her a bit lol, and stans recognise the age difference and immediately treat her more childlike too, but with ive all the members at debut were fairly young, gaeul only just having turned 19 and the rest being around 17 years old, thus they wouldnt have babied leeseo that much. plus, the members were acting fairly mature (as wony and yujin had been in the industry for years at that point) leaving stans to think leeseo should act that way too.

It’s insane how part of the public has zero to no consideration for younger idols. When companies are debuting people that young they know damn well what they are subjecting them too, and that’s honestly scary. They are basically not allowed to be kids, and it’s incredibly damaging for their mental health.
At least, where I find some solace and hope is when they have at least the support of other members of their groups. I have in mind Eunchae, I’m relieved to know she has older members in Le SSERA like Sakura and Chaewon to offer her emotional support and probably give her some life advices.

The thing is the older I get, the worse and the more concerning the issue of young idols debuting becomes, not because they're debuting when they are younger than me but because you find people that are genuinely creepy towards these literal children and hate on them like it's nothing. Leeseo is only just under 4 months older than me and trust me, my mental health wouldn't be able to deal with what she is dealing with, I wish the best for her and that she is kept safe and the hate only becomes less for this poor girl. She really doesn't deserve it. Young idols should not be debuting in this industry because this industry is built for adults NOT children.

Seeing people her age trying to defend how they’re not a child and know better than others think are…wrong. We have all been there. We thought we knew everything because, at that point, we did know the most that we had known! But then, you age, look back and realise you really genuinely were immature emotionally. You are until at least your mid twenties, and even past then you’re still learning and gaining perspective. Even a few years can change the way you think, feel and act hugely- I know 15 y/o me and 18 y/o me were completely different people who dealt with inconveniences and emotions completely differently. This child certainly cannot deal with her emotions fully yet and should not be put in this position of being constantly attacked, as we know every single idol is. Companies and fans know that every single idol gets absolutely scrutinised and spat on, and that children cannot and should not handle this. She should not have debuted, no one under the age of 18 should.

In a perfect, ideal world people would think like us and not insult strangers in the way that many people do idols. However, we do not live in that, so the best we can do/wish for is to keep children out of an industry where that is inevitable. Also, I am absolutely fully aware of the double standards for men and women in kpop (and just in life, generally) and think it is disgusting.

@@amuna3870 but the idol industry is work, like any other. You should not enter it underage, for obvious reasons. Also don’t act oblivious to how companies literally just allow all sorts of shit to go on no matter the moral compass they pretend to have. They allow and even often encourage the sexualisation of these children as well as overworking them. The entertainment industry is known for being highly toxic and that will not change- almost ever child star turned out a mess and/or has warned against it. Idols are property, they are a product and they are treated as such. As an adult you can consent to that if you please, knowing full well what you’re really truly getting yourself into. You know you’re putting yourself on a platform where you are judged for every move, where you will inevitably be bullied, where you’re used to sell things and you are something a company will use to make money until you’re nothing and can be thrown away. That’s the reality of kpop and much of the entertainment industry. As a child you do NOT understand that and cannot consent to it. No one else should be allowed to consent that for another person. My argument stands fully that you should be minimum 18 to debut. Just become some young idols are success stories does not mean it was right. Look how many have mental issues from being treated the way they are, a child is far more open to develop problems and react to them worse compared to an adult. The only way in which it makes sense to debut a child is in a monetary sense, and that is in no WAY moral.

Similarly athletes go through brutal training as kids. Sometimes it feels inhuman to subject kids to that sort of intensity. So should we ban that as well?
I'm not trying to justify debuting younger. I'm saying that this exists in a lot of fields. So if we're boycotting it has to be for all of that. I don't think that's possible at all.

In general I think fans have to be more aware of how their small "jokes" become a lot less funny and much more harmful when they're part of thousands of similar posts that target the idol in question. it's easy not to feel guilty for the way the idol is impacted, after all you're just one person making a post, and yet it very much adds to the problem. The cake video is so gross, the fact that people are questioning her entire character and upbringing by ONE incident says more about them than her. It was a prank where she believed she had to film something using that cake that now was ruined. Imagine being a child in front of cameras and surrounded by figures of authority and something wrong happens and it involves you too, MANY of us would have ran out of there. She even said later in the video that it was so scary for her. Even Liz cried after the prank, so even she as a 20 y/o was scared. And don’t get me started on the crying, she was obviously emotional, just because she didn’t have full blow tears streaming down her face it does not mean she didn’t feel anything and acted fake. Other idols especially male do the most cringe and ridiculous things and all the female fans hating on Leeseo lose their sh*t. The double standard is insane.

It's about the harsh training, controversies, hate and basically everything Leeseo went throught over the past years. It's basically impossible to imagine being her. That's why people have to at least think before typing anything.
I hope Leeseo and all young idols and not only are getting the love and support they deserve❤️

at the end it's still a job, an overwhelming and overworked job, even, and children shouldn't be allowed to be there just because some crazy parents agreed to put them through that hell

Honestly as someone who supports younger people debuting in K-pop (not like 15-10 year olds ofc I’m not that stupid 😬), Leeseo has always kind of… worried me? I mean, I’m the _same age as Leeseo_ with a birthday difference of *_Exactly one day_* sooo I guess in a way our close birthday makes me feel like I might understand her a lot?? Idk it’s weird and hard to explain but just knowing that Leeseo was gonna be in IVE was a real mix of emotions.
Obviously Leeseo and I aren’t the same person, but I can only imagine the things I would be thinking if I was debuting in her shoes… being a 14 year old in such a competitive environment; I would probably feel extremely pressured to do absolutely perfect work!! Ofc I’m very proud of everything Leeseo has accomplished in IVE and how well she’s been doing, but knowing that basically *_every K-pop Stan_* in the industry has their eyes set on slandering her fellow member Wonyoung, I had a feeling that Leeseo and her other members would get the same treatment as well.
I wanted to be wrong so badly but seeing the hate that Wonyoung and Leeseo have been getting just for lip-syncing “Strawberry Moon” on stage makes me realize just how terribly right I was 😢 The poor girl has quite literally done *_nothing_* wrong to receive this amount of hate and yet antis keep finding reason after reason to bash her! It’s the only reason I dislike having children in K-pop.
And I don’t blame it on kids like Leeseo, or those kids’ parents, not even on the company *(well a little on the company actually-).* I blame this on the industry itself, for being so unnecessarily aggressive and competitive about absolutely *_everything!_*
If K-pop and it’s Stans weren’t so fixated on their faves being the best and fighting over the stupid numbers, and instead focused on what the industry is for: FRICKING ENTERTAINMENT, I feel like kids in K-pop wouldn’t have to suffer this much. Sure the busy schedules would still be a lot, but if there wasn’t such a constant need to deliver the best every single time I feel like even that wouldn’t be so hard for the idols.
Maybe it’s just a wishful thinking rant I’m having but I genuinely think that kids like Leeseo wouldn’t be so bashed and slandered if the industry wasn’t so fixated on the idea of perfection. She’d probably still even get to just enjoy her youth if people accepted that she’s just a child who is skilled enough to live her dreams and not some lifeless doll for people to judge her flaws…….
Edit: and another thing I saw someone comment about that I wanted to add; If you’re gonna debut a child, AT LEAST PROVIDE SOME FORM OF CARE FOR THEM. They’re still children with developing brains and they need to know how to handle things in this industry healthily. So that’s why I said it’s a little on the companies for not giving idols the necessary tools needed to keep them healthy during their schedules

I hated the staff prank and public's reaction. they completly disregarded the fact she was like 14yo during that time, the staff is hired to help n comfort her not the other way around. they also didn't care she was confused/embarrased (since thats how teens are) but most of the ppl that criticized her were never pranked on camera and with every single problem they encounter would just call their mom. they act as if she's a souless monster that can only copy other ppl, meanwhile shes just a child that has someone to look up in her group.(let's ignore the fact that if she were to clean up the mess the staff made she would probably mess up her look n it had to be redo by another staff member).
ppl expect her to act 24yo not the age she is and ofc u can say "but she knew what she was doing getting into kpop in the first place" nah dude, I thought I knew what I was doing at 14 but I didn't. no 20+yo individual would be like "yeah nothing has changed about me since I was 14yo"

I have been increasingly worried of her as she was pushed a lot into the public alongside Wonyoung because she's already getting her fair share of unnecessary hate. I wish people remembered that she's still a kid and like with Eunchae, would let her be the teenager she is and enjoy her youth. Overall I think a lot of the hate comes from IVE being successful and people being mad about it as they try to constantly look for Anything that would make the girls look bad.

I usually stream all my kpop music on yt, spotify, or deezer. But I even though I ENJOY New Jeans, I never stream their music [legally] because of the Min Heejin issue. I am deeply uncomfortable with the idea of minors debuting because my sisters are around their age. And imagining them going through what Leeseo and other minors experience is so sad to me.
Usually, I can overlook this (Itzy, Le Ssera, IVE), but the way Min Heejin handled the issue was disgusting tbh. I refuse to give her my money hahahahahahah.
Anyways, the hate on Leeseo is crazy. AFAIK the only "sin" she truly committed was the lip syncing with Wonyoung. But lip sync is hardly a moral failing so idk why people treat her as if she's the next JefferD@hmer. The anonymity of the internet has truly made us comfortable with hurting other people.

People keep bullying her on tiktok when she’s literally just a kid. And even if she wasn’t a minor, they’re still being too harsh like ok embarrassing moments happen but why bully her for it? She’s literally an idol and she is going to try to be cute and appeal to the crowd and if it screws up ok that happens and it’s fine, they shouldn’t berate her and essentially say how she’s embarrassing and she should be kicked out the group for that or she’s cringe like wtf? She’s 15, she’s learning to grow, and cringe moments happen but we shouldn’t hate on people for that, especially when they are literally kids still learning about the world around them and developing their mental state. And it’s disgusting how most of the hate is coming from FULL GROWN adults, like??? Grown ass people bullying a minor online just cause she said something a bit embarrassing?? And then people saying she wasn’t even crying, many clips before and after that SHOW she was crying, she’s a kid and she’s already achieving so much, of course she is gonna cry, why would she even need to fake it? It’s so annoying and it’s so horrible how they’re just bullying this girl who has worked extremely hard to get to where she is and just because of one or two embarrassing moments, people find that to be a good enough reason to invalidate everything else about her. I get why hybe and starship debuted these really young idols (hyerin, leeseo, eunchae, so on), it’s cause they’re really fucking talented and they mind find it to be a waste to wait for them to be adults in order for them to debut. And also, most likely the idols themselves really wanted this because it’s a dream of theirs and they don’t mind sacrificing their childhood if they get to follow their dreams, ok I get that. I do think though there really should be a minimum age requirement however, because with how it’s looking, they’re debuting idols younger and younger. Look at YG, their upcoming group baby monster has a 13 year old girl. Like that’s insane, and even if she herself wanted this, I still think there really should be a minimum. Sure start training at 13 if you want, but debuting at 13??? For me I believe 16-17 being the minimum age requirement seems bearable and ok, still minors but they have less to miss out on childhood wise, and they probably have developed a bit more thick skin by then. But, I do think it’s always best to just not debut minors in general. Knowing kpop companies though, they can’t do that, so at least a minimum would be good. Being an idol is a job, and there are many jobs that have minimum age requirements, so being an idol should be no different. If you can’t have a full time job at some store when you’re 13, you shouldn’t be able to be an idol at such a young age either. Again, not like the companies will blacklist minors, and I do think that it wouldn’t be good to completely blacklist them because again they can start training at 15 and debut at 18-19, but also the fact that they might feel discouraged knowing that they can’t debut when they want to, so from a company perspective I get why they debut minors. From an ethical perspective, it’s just wrong itself. I’m the VERY least they should have support resources for them, ways to filter out hate or inappropriate comments, an age minimum, and not give provocative/sexual outfits to minors, nor provocative/sexual choreography (jyp with tzuyu 😕). They should at least do the BARE minimum if they’re so adamant about debuting minors, but I’m not seeing a lot of these companies doing that which is really enforcing the idea of just not debuting them at all because if they can’t even protect them properly and adjust ethically to them, then they shouldn’t be debuting them at all. That’s just my two cents on it, but like I’m really glad there are people agreeing that this hate towards leeseo is unjustified and harsh, and as well the issue with debuting minors being a big one that companies should really figure out and at least do the bare minimum.

it’s a predatory industry and it seems idols are debuting younger and younger every year 😢 companies should provide mental health support for idols, esp younger ones who haven’t developed yet and may not be strong enough for all the crazy criticism. Yes they chose to become idols, but that doesn’t mean they chose to be scrutinized for everything they do 🥲

yes this honestly if you’re gonna debut a child _the least you can do_ is provide the necessary support needed to keep them safe and healthy.

It's weird how the same people that will baby a grown adult are also the first ones to criticize an actual child when they do childish things. So, what is it? Are idols cute little babies that deserve no harm, or do they need to grow up and act maturely?
I'm so sick & tired of the whole name calling towards teenage female idols. I've seen it's mostly the maknaes of these 4th gen ggs that are constantly getting harassed and bullied and for what? For singing another idol's song? For crying over your group's first big award? For eating a damn freaking strawberry? How is any of what I just mentioned "pick me behavior" or "clout chasing" or "fake"? These girls aren't allowed to do ANYTHING without being criticized. It's so pathetic. How can you feign worry for the same child you spend day & night bullying? I would say I hope people's mentality changes & they realize all this negativity plays a big role in the detriment to these idols mental health but when have kpop fans truly cared about an idol's wellbeing? Idols will sadly continue to be expected to be perfect. To always be in a good mood, to always give their 100% and if they mess up or break down, they deserve harsh words thrown at them.

I think Won Young is the example for debutting at a young age, in IZ*ONE she is the center, but there are many other visual members in her group with the same popularity, it's a healthy competition, plus she does not get the most lines in IZ*ONE songs.
However, in IVE her popularity outweigh the other members (even Yujin), and she has to carry the responsibility of being "prettiest girl" of IVE, constantly shooting commercials, performing at music stages, MC-ing, etc. basically being the main income of the group. This such busy schedule has affected both her health and her skills as an idol, I feel like her vocal skill is actually worse than when she was in IZ*ONE. From being a cute and pretty maknae to being a glamorous adult woman has put a lot of pressure on WY, she's visibly less cheerful now than her IZ*ONE time, she's too busy now to even spend time regularly with IVE. Jmo, i fell like she put on this mask of not showing her true emotions every time on stage and public events to deal with the critcism.
For the case of Leeseo, I dont think she received that much negativity initially, but the problem is that she's in IVE, a group who's going to receive more crticism in the future if they continue to be this popular. Starship's treatment doesnt make this any better, somehow they decided to debut a young idol who hasn't matured her skill, and push Leeseo (together with WY and Yujin) to have more lines instead of the members with more stable vocal like Liz and Rei💀💀. And I doubt that Leeseo would has the same popularity as WY, but if one day she changed her image, not this cute young maknae but someone else (like Sulli and WY), she would be bashed nonetheless, and i'm afraid the damage would get accumulated from year to year that if one day we realize that she's not ok, it's kinda too late.

sadly leeseo is always dressed up as a woman and seems older than her age (idk about you, but i always tend to forget she's only 14) and she's in a group with a more mature concept, while eunchae (despite having some features that still make her seem older) is in a group with a youthful concept and members that always point out the fact that she's a minor.
since i don't follow their vlogs i don't know if ive members do the same, but since the attention is always so hooked on wonyoung and partially on yujin people wouldn't really notice it even if they did that.

on top of that, this is not a minor job to do. I can imagine that many young idols will hate their job in a few years and regret their career choice. Maybe they quite school or barely pass it because they cannot study or have to skip school due to events, tours etc. and have limited career choices in the future if they decide to quite.

I'm literally so done with people getting debuted so long. Not only must it suck for the idol because of everyone else's immaturity, but also, that's so young to have basically a full time job.
I feel horrible for Leeseo. Some of my favorite groups have members under 16, or did when they debuted. Leeseo is my bias wreaker in IVE, and it disgusts me when I see full grown adults making fun of anyone (cough wonyoung), much less a literal child. I wish there where better laws regarding the music industry in not only Korea, but also the world. As we've seen with Loona as well, they have these young idols signing these contracts (their parents too) just excited about their dream, not digging into the legal work and negotiating. It's not a good situation. So yeah. Even though I can't imagine some of my favorite groups without the members who debuted below sixteen (tri.be, loona, ive, le sserafim, etc)
I wish it would stop. Because the world isn't safe for these kids. I really hope that not only Leeseo, but all the members have the people they need and the personal strength to walk these things off, remember that these are people hiding behind a screen, and just to continue being their real, authentic (or screen) selves living (and hopefully thriving as well) their dream

As a 20+yo fan who got into kpop when girls were just a bit older when debuting, it's so sad to see how people are treating Leeseo. Unfortunately, these are the perils of debuting as a minor, the internet is ruthless and don't care how old you are. Even you tubers who do vlogs and are younger get massive hate. It's so sad to see. I hope this won't become a trend
