I'm sure they'll sell out, but to whom I don't know. $25k for a bike that's worth $10k. H-D should remember that their audience is all over 60 and probably have all the bikes they need. 25 years ago they had a waiting list. Those 50 year-old buyers in 1999 are now 75. The glut of used H-Ds is on the way.

How is an 1800cc Harley with cruise control, upgraded intake, custom upholstery, and other trim features, worth $10k when a new base model Suzuki C50 (800cc) goes for $10k? The same logic that causes a Dodge Hellcat to cost twice what its own base model Challenger costs applies to motorcycle engines as well. Also, I'm 37 and bought one of these bikes. People still like old school styled machines, hence the popularity of classic car shows and such. I'm glad there are companies keeping the option to own modernized classic motorcycles alive. (Royal Enfield, Indian, and Triumph also do a good job of this.)

Why does everyone think this is so great? It's nothing more than a current Heritage Softail model with special paint and badges, a front crash bar, and added fringey farkles.

Because some people love the history and the little details. This bike isn't for every rider, mainly the people who appreciate the "golden era" of Harley. It has the same font on its speedo as the 1956 Hydra Glide did. It has the same tank badges, specifically recreated for this bike only. It has the old seat rail that you don't really get with any bikes anymore. I don't know what people expect Harley to do for an Icon bike. What, build an actual NEW panhead engine, put it on an actual rigid frame with a kickstart? The Heritage is a DIRECT link back to Harley's golden era. For a company to have more modernized features (M8 motor, cruise control, ABS, better suspension and such) but still keep a faithful tie to the original styling, it makes perfect sense this would be the platform to slap on some accurate throwbacks to the era that defined US motorcycle culture. If you don't care about all that, go buy a Vulcan 900 and just ride. People like things, I know it's crazy.
