    I personally think the show does an exceptional job capturing the intense emotions and expressions of the dragon riders, and the soldiers around. What do you think? Let’s discuss in the comments below!

      Yes I agree but I think Vhagar is too large for an ambush attack on Meleys as she surprised from behind the castle. So maybe it was a little off. But still the show did great.

      I hated the idea of that ambush attack, like everyone pointed out Vagar is toooo big for that , I couldn't understand how vagar got to the battleground undetected, but thinking about it I'm sure Aemond knows vagar better than anyone knows their dragon. I believe Vagar swam from kingslanding to the southern part off rooks rest and crawled her way in and hid in the forest , maybe that why no one knew she was there . However he's supposedly anticipated he will be seen from above so if a dragon rider comes from the East I think Amond hide further southwest, that's what made him undetectable. On another note I loved how meleys went straight for Vagars abdominal area and she clawed ather trying to take the big MF down . The book says vagar came from above and the show she came from beneath. I think if treachery had to play the part vagar should have been beneath the surface of the water and Aemond on a raft broken and thorn stranded and whilst swooping down to eat him Vagar appears and mauled her throat. Causing her to crash in the water .

    For the first dragon battle it was a good fight.Sunfyre looked cool as a dragon and I like how they showed the personalities of the dragons. Rhaenys and meleys were badass/sad in just the right amount. The only problem I had was vhagar keeps one shotting dragons from blind spots. How do you let a flying castle get in your blind spot. I refuse to believe an experienced rider and dragon combo like rhaenys and meleys would be dumb enough to fly over that castle when they can’t put eyes on the giant flying dinosaur they just fought 2 seconds ago. Writers did the 2 queens dirty on that one.

      Nevermind that Vhaegar’s ambush would be almost impossible. 1) Vhaegar, the largest dragon, hiding behind the “tiny” castle of Rook’s rest doesn’t make sense. 2) when Vhaegar comes up, you see her hiding spot, which should not have been large enough to shield her from Rhaenys. 3) Vhaegar was moving quickly enough to ambush Meleys, the fastest dragon, and Rhaenys, probably the most experienced rider. Which means Vhaegar and Aemond had to perfectly time: getting away, hiding from view, Meleys flying over the castle, then being in perfect movement to strike *upwards*.

    I would only change one thing about Rook's Rest: Aegon's involvement. In the show, they made it look like he wasn't ever supposed to be there, while in the book, it is an ambush planned by Criston and it's based specifically on the fact that Meleys, while still alone, had a chance to take Vhagar alone and win, as she was arguably the fastest rider of her time (moondancer would've followed tho change my mind) This wasn't possible however with 2 dragons going at Meleys at once, hence Aegon's presence being inevitable, because Helaena was incapacitated by grief and Daeron was away to Oldtown.
    That's just my thoughts!! The rest was pretty neat and well filmed and edited.

    • @diofromava
      @diofromava 17 дней назад

      I really like this change, because the books are written as historical text, with bias towards the greens. So it makes sense that history would remember the battle as if Cole and Aemond had planned for Aegon to show up, even though it’s possible the events could have unfolded just as they did in the show, and were simply recorded with bias and lack of context.

    • @butter7790
      @butter7790 17 дней назад +7

      @diofromava yes but it also takes away from Rhaenys kinda. implying that vhagar (who although strong, is slow as hell), is just enough for meleys when she has rhaenys as a rider with much more experience than aemond. it is literally said that rhaenys is powerful enough to take vhagar alone, and another dragon HAD to be present for it to be an ambush and an assured victory. aegon's part in this battle was necessary. instead they made rhaenys look like she was 1) dying for nothing (the king had already been put down for all she knows); 2) SURE she was going to die? book!rhaenys only realized it as soon as she saw sunfyre and vhagar together bffr, my girl would be on the dance floor in like 2 secs ready to fuck that big granny up.
      plus, i understand the book is built on biases and basically grasping at straws from both the point of view of the maesters and mushroom, but there is a difference between filling these types of gaps and completely rewriting a character as a fool with no irredeemable qualities. that is just what i think! they should've left aegon and sunfyre as a necessary asset and they should've left rhaenys be as strong and as confident in her strength as she is in the books.

    • @diofromava
      @diofromava 17 дней назад

      @@butter7790 I agree, changing Cole and Aemond’s plan to exclude Aegon does kind of take away from Rhaenys and her experience with Meleys. However, I think it doesn’t necessarily rewrite her character. She was faring well, and it seemed like multiple times she could’ve chosen to disengage and save herself and her dragon, but I think Rhaenys was thinking in that moment that she has lived a full life and if anyone is going to make the sacrifice play, it ought to be her. I do wish Vhagar wouldn’t have sneak attacked her though, doesn’t really make sense that the biggest living creature in the world’s main tactic is stealth lol

      @@butter7790 Did you mean Aegon was rewritten as a fool? Because I can agree with you there. There doesn’t seem to be any reason to support Aegon in the show. He is constantly shown to be a bad person, although it is intriguing to watch his mental state decline as he continues to allow the war to be waged without his input. Jealousy and insecurity are portrayed well, at least.

      I acc think the show version is better in reflection - Aegon wasn’t supposed to be there so he almost ruined the plan, Meleys dealt with him how you’d expect a hardened dragon/rider to deal with a rookie, Aemond hesitance a clear indication he wanted to see his brother die in battle so he can take the throne organically, even at the end of the battle it’s unclear if Aemond goes to to finish Aegon off or not - besides all, the fact Meleys gave Vhagar a run for her money 1v1 makes the outcome of the battle above the gods eye more plausible - lastly, the histories would portray Aegon as a gallant king who went to battle and helped defeat Meleys when we saw reality was nothing like that (which is cool)

    • @grimoireweiss1396
      @grimoireweiss1396 17 дней назад +3

      Thing is, the show version is the more accurate version of the battle. In the books, both narrators are biased to a side. The book is a recollection of the events and I think they do an incredible job of showing how eye witness accounts perceive such a battle differently.
      So I dont see it as two different versions. The show is how it happens, the books are how it was remembered.

      If daemon had been around instead of on his psychedelic trip in harrenhall, maybe some of the stuff that went down could have been avoided as the greens wouldn't be so brazen in their attempts to draw out black dragons with the attack. Yes holding the cursed keep is strategic, but daemon should have just gone through the river lands to gather the host instead of waiting for them to come meet him. Send each force to harrenhall as they pledge support and then send the army forth to stop Cole's host from advancing so easily, as that would free daemon up to stay mobile and support the war effort.

    Meleyes and Sunfyre clash…Vhagar shows up and attacks both. Fueled by Aemonds disdain . Sunfyre goes down. Meleyes retreats till Rhaenys realizes she has to confront Vhagar. We get a good round 2. Then the conclusion…however, the small gripe I have is how easily Vhagar slipped out of sight so easily…still it was a fun battle…
