Trying to get this to work on my 00 4Runner but seems to set the alarm off after shutting and opening the door following first cycle. Is there something I may be doing wrong
If your actuators are going bad you should replace them. Timmy The Toolman has an excellent video “Door Lock Actuator Repair” on this topic. I‘ve successfully changed my actuators and it makes a big difference.
Got my dads 2000, he has a old fob but i am not sure if it is aftermarket or what. If i order these would they still work??? If anyone could help thatwould be great thanks!
Typically one of the biggest issues you will run into would be failing actuators. This would cause issues with your unlock and lock function from the key fob. With that said, you should still be able to program the new key fob using these steps. I’ve read on 4Runner forums that some owners have had negative experiences with key fobs off Amazon. I bought mine off eBay - seller: Remotez4less
Great question. When starting the programming, the vehicle should be unlocked. Your first move will be to Lock, starting the sequence. Thanks for the question, let me know how it works for you.
Cool. Been trying to program an eBay FOB using the lock-unlock button on the inside without success. This did it, except My rear window will not roll down with the new FOB, and Originally, with the OEM FOB (lost), I could hit the unlock twice and all the locks would unlock. Not with this aftermarket FOB Any ideas?
Regarding the rear window, are you making certain to hold the button down for a couple of seconds? I had an issue previously with all locks unlocking also. That ended up being failing actuators. I followed the steps outlined by Timmy the toolman on buying a cheap actuator motor on eBay and replacing mine. Ever since I did that, everything worked.
That’s great! I’d love to hear if this is the fix for your issue. Changing the actuators isn’t too difficult, just take your time and do it the right way.
Do you have a box under the driver seat? I’ve seen a bunch of videos saying you need to have a box for the keyless entry to work. I have a fob that doesn’t work on my 2001 SR5 I just bought and I’ve been having troubles getting into program mode but I’ll try the method you showed outside the door manually locking/ unlocking. Would that fob I got with the truck be fine or do I need a replacement to program
I do not have any special box under my driver seat. In fact, the only electrical connection under the driver seat is for the seatbelt light on the instrument cluster. I wouldn’t think that’s your issue. Did your vehicle come with keyless entry originally? I experienced a lot of issues trying to pair my replacement key fob in the past, so much so that it never worked. Once I tried the method I showed in the video, it worked. I would encourage you to make sure you have a fresh battery in your key fob, and then try the steps I outlined in the video. Make sure you do them in the correct order. If you miss a step or mess up, start completely over. Let me know how it goes! Thanks for watching, and good luck!
@@vanwinklesgarage I bought it used from a small dealership and it came with a key fob, I did change out the battery yesterday. Unfortunately couldn’t follow the steps as my driver door doesn’t want to lock from the outside with a key, unlocks just fine but hits resistance when trying to lock. And using the buttons only gets me maybe 3 cycles of locking/ unlocking 🥲. If I could just get the fob programmed I wouldn’t have to worry about it 😂
Unfortunately, I don’t think that remote type works for the 96-98 models. I tried your method anyway, and no deal. Thanks for the video, though. Great instructions and easy to follow. Will just have to use the old egg shell remote.
I have been trying to do this without success, your video did it! Thanks so much.
Awesome, thanks so much! I’m so glad to know you were able to have success. Enjoy the results!!
tried it this way and it was very easy! thank you man!
Awesome, Glad it helped you! Thanks for the feedback.

Is your 4Runner equipped with the RS alarm system? It’s odd to me that the alarm would go off when you’re leaving the last “cycle” on unlock.
Best video on this worked for me
Awesome David, thanks for tuning in. So glad it worked for you!
Brother it took me 9 tries but finally on the last one you have to turn it to ON not ACC
Hot Dang, you know what they say… 9th’s time the charm! 😂 As a side note, bravo for the stick to itness you displayed.
What about if your actuators are going bad and die by the third unlock ?

Do you start with lock/ unlock or is it unlock/ lock ? Not clear.
