A couple tips I've learned - if the locks get tired either help them like shown in the video or lock and unlock the doors manually with the key in the door. Also, to see if your vehicle has keyless entry the chirper will be mounted to the passenger fender near the firewall in the engine bay (at least on my 01). The chirp volume can be adjusted levels 1-5, it is set at 3 from the factory. On my vehicle I removed the chirp completely.
I think I have multiple door lock actuators that aren't working fully...Like it will unlock and lock once or twice in a row but after that it might be lacking power. Would I still be able to use the manual option to set my key fobs?
AMAZING! I'm the original owner of a 2002 4Runner that came with two fobs. One of them was lost while hiking about 10 years ago and I was always told that if I wanted to buy a new one I wouldn't be able to program it without two other working fobs and the local stealership wanted $429 for a programmed replacement fob. You've shown that I have all that's needed to program a new fob. THANKS!
Just did mine(2000 Sr5 sport) after struggling for so long. Thanks for the tip, only the drivers door needs the lock to move I just left the others unlocked. Got it first try and I also pushed the button in the door jamb. Thanks!!
Thank you bro I been trying this on and off for like 6 months and the trick with helping out the actuator with your other hands worked! And thank for telling me not to be discouraged cuz I was 😅but I kept trying and it worked!

This is an excellent video on programming the third GEN 4Runner key fob. The most helpful part of the video was the suggestion to help the door actuator button move up and down at the same time that you cycled the lock and unlock button. I was unsuccessful in programming my key fob until I Executed this procedure. Then it worked perfectly. Nice job with the video!
I know it’s been two years but man after literally 34 tries not exaggerating I finally got my key fob to program and it’s all thanks to your tip. Thank you so much man 😭🙏
Thank you Senior. After a few tries and following your directions. I got it to work. I did have to do the manual pull of the lock button at the same time as exercising the internal switch . The lock actuator died after many tries. It all worked out just great. BTW this is in a 2000 4R. SR5 . Thanks again .
Thank you. Anyone having trouble I had success going slow and using one hand manually pulling the lock up and down in sync with my other hand switching the lock. I hope that made sense.
I appreciate the tips at the end and I went back out and tried it with the other hand helping the actuator and it worked! Thank you 🙏🏽 I really appreciate your video!
I did all the steps correctly. At the very end it does it’s little unlock and lock when I hold down the unlock for 2 seconds. But after closing the door. Nothing happens when I hit the buttons again. Any idea?
I have a 1999 SR5 with keyless entry (verified by original window sticker) and the rs3000 security system but I can't get the fobs to program. I am able to get it in programing mode but the fobs won't program.
The VIP RS3000 appears to program differently than the ones in this video. The RS3000 was a dealer install (not a factory install) and the instructions are different. Sadly though, I can program the key fobs for the RS3000, but it seems to forget the key fob programming about an hour later. I have not found a solution for that yet.
It worked! Thanks so much .I did the trick where you pull and push the lock while you do the cycle because same as you my actuator stops working after you do it a few times.
2002 4runner needs to be in Valet mode first. Turn key on 3 times then remove key. Then key in one time and follow the 5 lock steps. Not sure you end with one turn key on at end or 2? I have seen both ways.
We lost the keys and I had a new key made it’s obviously got the chip in it. I still have the original remote though. it doesn’t seem to be programming with anything I followed instructions carefully. It has new battery. when the door is open and I start doing the cycling it only locks and unlocks once and then the rest of the time it doesn’t respond to me pressing lock and unlock. anyone know the answer for sure?
I have a question. Do you have the little box with a green dot under your driver side chair? I’m asking because mine doesn’t have it and I’m not sure if you need it for this to work. Thanks
Late reply ,but the black box can be under any seat or behind the drivers side kick plate. Dealer installed ,usually under drivers seat , but not always.
In the cheat sheet it says to hold the lock button for 2s. In the video you do the unlock button. Got my 1996 Prado turbo diesel to go into programming mode but the $22 fobs didn’t work. 😢 Great instructions though. Thank you 🙏

Okay real question, So my 1998 came with the factory anti-theft keyless entry keys and so fast forward to now its not as accurate anymore and doesn't catch the unlock signal and when I need to get into the truck and use the basically "dead key" the alarm goes off and it goes into anti-theft and I cant start it until I FINALLY get the truck to catch the signal. Somehow when I did this, I was able to program the new remote, but it un-programmed my old remote in the process. What did I do wrong? I cannot get it back in program mode.
I've had the same trouble. For now I just have one fob programmed. If I ever lose that one I'll just program the new one. You can try the process again, but unless you really need both working, I would just leave it. Up to you if you want to futz with the programming sequence againXD
For anyone reading these comments, you must program all of the key fobs at the same time. Program one fob. Keep the door open and then do same procedure of holding lock/unlock for one second and then unlock for two seconds. Repeat again for any additional fobs.
Another tip if your actuators are not cycling properly or/shot and you've tried pushing down/pulling up on the driver's side door lock knob with no luck. Try this last option: You can manually use your key into the driver's door from outside and turned it back and forth (similar procedure as in this video 5). That was the only way I was able to get it to work as it was my last option.
Great suggestion. I was having no luck with this until I tried your suggestion about actually inserting the key into the driver's side door lock to cycle the locks. That did the trick. Thank you.

So for anybody with a 98 year model 4runner watching this video for guidance... Unfortunately the method used to program the keyless entry in this particular video does not work. But the good news is that the answer is simpler. With the car turned off and the drivers side door open, You just need to locate the electronic control unit under the drivers seat. Do this twice, but do not start the vehicle. Press the unlock button on the key fob. And unlock the drivers Side door. Then hold the green button again for seven seconds and repeat the same process with the lock button on the key fob and drivers side door. And its done.
