Watch me watch this classic 1963 horror movie, The Birds, in this first time watching reaction video! The Birds tells the story of Melanie, a wealthy San Francisco socialite who follows a potential boyfriend to a small Northern California town, where birds of all kinds suddenly begin to attack people.
The film was based on the short story by Daphne Du Maurier and directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The Birds stars Rod Taylor as Mitch Brenner, Jessica Tandy as Lydia Brenner, Suzanne Pleshette as Annie Hayworth, Tippi Hedren as Melanie Daniels , Veronica Cartwright as Cathy Brenner, Ethel Griffies as Mrs. Bundy, Charles McGraw as Sebastian Sholes, Ruth McDevitt as Mrs. MacGruder and Lonny Chapman as Deke Carter.
Check out this first time watching horror reaction video for The Birds, and see if I can make it as a horror movie rookie. Horror is a genre I've barely explored, mostly because I'm a huge wuss.
Typically my Halloween movie viewings consist of Hocus Pocus and Halloweentown. This year I decided to expand my horror movie knowledge and try and watch these horror movie fan favourites.
Check out my first time watching this classic 1963 horror movie, The Birds, and enjoy my reaction video! Don't forget to like and subscribe for more videos! If you have suggestions for other horror movies I should watch, comment below!

Great reaction. My brother and I visited Bodega Bay back in the 80s. We drove out to the schoolhouse, which is actually quite a ways out of town. It was great to see it in real life. There were big tall trees where the playground had been. Annie's little house was still up the hill but with an entirely different fascade. There was a restaurant called The Tides but it was a totally different building.
The thing that redeems Melanie's character the most is that as she sinks to the floor during that last bird attack in the upstairs bedroom, she mumbles, "Where's Cathy?"

In honor of you watching this classic, I came up with a little ditty. Its sung to the tune of the old song "Rockin' Robin". Here it goes:
He plots in the treetops all day long. Hoppin and a plottin' to do humans wrong.
All the little birds on Jay Bird Street plan to make humans go "shriek, shriek, shriek!"
      Plottin' Robin! Plottin' Robin!
The wise old owl, the big black crow. All of 'em attacked when the Robin said "Go birds, go!"
      Plottin' Robin! Plottin' Robin!
      Stay inside, watch out y'all.

I haven't read through all the comments but I'm sure someone has told you to look up some behind the scenes stuff about the making of this. If no one has commented yet, I wanted to let you know that The Birds was a short story by Daphne Du Maurier, who also wrote Jamaica Inn and Rebecca and Hitchcock made movies out of both of those. The Birds has a sequel called The Birds II: Land's End. That is actually based on the short story. Tippi Hedren returns, but as a different character. Also, if you want to know more about the making of this film, I suggest watching the 2012 film, The Girl. Sienna Miller plays Tippi and Toby Jones plays Hitch. And as a bonus, if you want to know more about the making of Psycho, since you've seen it, watch the 2012 film Hitchcock. Anthony Hopkins plays Hitchcock, Scarlett Johansson plays Janet Leigh, Helen Mirren plays Alma (Hitchcock's wife), Jessica Biel plays Vera Miles (who played Marion's sister) and James D'Arcy plays Anthony Perkins (Norman Bates). Hope all this helps you.

In the end, they were headed to San Francisco. Hitch wanted to stay true to the book that when they got there the Golden Gate Bridge was covered with birds. They ran out of production money, Hitch asked for more, they said no and that's why the movie ends as it does. if you get the Blue-Ray, in the extras you can see the storyboard mockups of the GGB.

The bird sounds were created electronically but in post production, so the actors didn't hear that during filming. When he couldn't get the reactions he wanted during the scene when the swarms attacked the house, Hitchock brought a guy hitting a kettle drum to give the actors something to react to.

Hitchcock is so good at dropping ominous hints throughout that everyone casually brushes off. The scene in the diner is the crux of the movie when the plot shifts into high gear. He ratchets up the tension with each turn of the conversation until there is a literal explosion!
There's never a reason given but it's an apocalyptic tale. Nature just rebels against man. The ambiguity of the ending is haunting.
    M. Night Shyamalan tried a nature-rebelling-against-man horror with "The Happening" starring Mark Wahlberg but it came across as silly.
My favorite color Hitchcock is "Rear Window".
My favorite black-and-white Hitchcock is "Strangers on a Train".
If flapping, swarming, shredding aerial beasts terrify you, check out Vin Diesel's amazing "Pitch Black"!
If people trapped in a confined space with death lurking outside terrifies you, check out Frank Darabont's "The Mist" based on a Stephen King novella and John Carpenter's 1976 "Assault on Precinct 13"!

Thanks for this reaction - I'm so glad you know Hitchcock's style and will be patient and involved in the story development and character building.
I don't know if you caught it, but the attacks did not start with Melanie's arrival: in the diner, the sailor describes seagulls messing with his line a week before in a way they hadn't before. As I recall, the news reports say the birds are attacking in other places as well, which have no connection with Melanie.
Angela Cartwright has a lovely, heartrending monologue about Annie - her "Annie, she pushed me inside" has always stayed with me.

I work in a movie theater that does an annual screening of Hitchcock movies. One year we were playing The Birds and this couple came in with their son. Unfortunately the theater was so packed that they could only sit in the first row. After selling them the tickets I made a casual remark that at least the jungle gym scene will be more intense, which shocked the son. He thought the movie was going to be about a killer in a bird mask.

All Hitchcock movies are well made. Watch Hitchcock’s first American film “Rebecca” which is a Gothic Romance with a great villain, the creepy Mrs. Danvers. “Rope” 1948 is a Hitchcock film of a play based on the Leopoldo Loeb very strange. “North by Northwest” 1959 is one of his most entertaining films and was used as a template for the early James Bond films.
