Next, try four short runners on the center cylinders and four long runners on the outer four cylinders!

It would be pretty easy to build a plenum spacer so you can put on really long runners.

Given the amount of guys switching to EFI it would be great to see what sort of A/F variations we see across all cylinders with common carb type manifolds which have fuel injectors at the head ports (MPI), adapted to them. Probably some common ones would be a victor, super victor and RPM air gap dual plane.
Are people tempting fate by using these manifolds with EFI and creating very lean cylinders ?????

I have a holley hi rise manifold and I extended the runners by 5.5 inch and the manifold has 6.5 runners that makes 12 inch runners with a custom made lid the cam is 227 234 .063 lift at 112 what your throught on this peter

I have lq4 with the 54 454 11 cam and sheet metal inatke and ported 243 heads made 430rwhp now been trying to install turbo kit and 7875 want to make good power at 14lbs what do you think would? make and people said the cam is to big for back pressure with small turbo. So bigger turbo or different cam?

That was my question, if you had staggered the runners, but by also swapping long for short both ways.
I would think that the front cylinders would be losing air to the back due to plenum design.
And with taller runners up towards the throttle body they would have better chances of actually being balanced to a better degree.
Did you have sensors on each to read afr and egt's per cylinder to verify they were as close to equal as possible?
As I always felt that with to common plenum designs, that the further back the ports were the better flow, because of the air being forced into them, due to air hitting the back of the plenum.
That and just with velocity coming in through the throttle body being blasted past the lead runners, and doesn't appear to be enough area to allow for it to equalize the pressure with the design sloping towards the rear as it does.
Be interesting to see actual flow characteristics done with a clear mockup with smoke and all the proper meters for reading CFM's velocity static pressure.
That'd be the truest form of designing how the runners and plenum needs to be designed and then play on the dyno.
Yes Sir I am sure that they never thought of going to such detailed analysis, because that's not cheap do, and small smoke grenades are so expensive 😊

Didn’t really seem to be a big enough difference in runner length to have mattered that much. How much longer do you consider the longer runner with that taper from front to back?

  • @exploranator
    @exploranator 2 месяца назад

I say again: I have not seen anyone do a test where they change not only length, but DIAMETER of the intake runners.
My theory is that with a long enough runner with a large enough cross-section, you could have a little bit of the best of both worlds: length for low-RPM but cross-section for higher RPM, so one would not completely defeat the otherr.
A super-long-runner with super-small cross-section would dramatically sacrifice mid- and top-end power for low-RPM torque.
A super-short-and-fat set of runners would do the opposite.
A fat-and long set of runners may find a middle ground, as it were. more low-rpm torque boosted a little bit and high-rpm power raised a bit.
But, the question is: "Can a fat runner's higher RPM potential still be found if it is a long, fat runner?
Note: the Holley Sky-Ram's runners were just too small in diameter and choked off the motor, in my opinion, which is why I never liked the overall results of that somewhat humorous test. Super-long runners need to be super-fat, too to not choke the engine out.
