I had one of these with the 1.5 last year. Honestly think it's the best car ever made. Just enough power to get the job done without emptying the fuel tank. Always made me smile whether i was washing it or driving it. Perfect size for Scottish roads too.
I owned a 2002 Miata for 10 years and reluctantly sold it when I moved into an apartment without a garage. Absolutely the most fun per dollar out there. This video makes me miss my little go-cart. Thanks!
Not only is it a blast to drive, it's affordable, that base price is really good. I can see how you would miss your 92 Miata. What colour did you have?
I bought my '94, used, back in '97, and decided 5 mins into the test drive that it was going to be mine. It was green with the optional hard top. It needed a new soft top (vandalism), so I ordered one from Robbins and put it in myself, with the help of 2 good friends. The only car I've ever driven that was more fun was a '94 NSX, also green.
I learned to drive in my dads '01 miata. I drove it through high school in the mid/ late 2000s. Many great memories in that car. He eventually got rid of it as he could no longer drive a manual as he aged and got a GTI. I still remember the day the flatbed came and took the miata away. I regret not purchasing it from him but i had a baby at the time. Every now and then i browse the used market for one..... maybe some day when the kids are grown, but who knows how much they will be then. They are already starting to creep up.
This is a great car, provided you know what you are getting in to. It doesn't have a ton of power, it doesn't have a ton of storage space. As long as you go in there knowing that and don't prioritize those things, you'll love it. It's light, nimble, reliable and won't break the bank buying it or driving it. If you're looking for a fun little car to put a smile on your face every day you drive it, Mazda made this just for you.
Though never having driven a Miata, I have drooled over several and simply love the car. At 72 years young(ish) I would have a Miata in a heart beat. A great review by my favorite automotive journalists. What’s not to like!!??
Great review of a great car! Love the Miata, but that grey colour is no match for soul red. Your audio was super, given that you were driving a convertible. 👍
@@andreaspencer9813 Drove one in 2023. Red, RF, auto. I just fit inside at 6'1". I'd consider one in the future if I had the money. I'm pretty much ready to replace my '94 XJ40.

I discovered your channel a couple years ago & used your fantastic videos when I was searching for my next vehicle last year. I wound up getting a new Kia Sportage Hybrid and love it! I additionally bought a new MX-5 Miata in Soul Red with the soft top! I’m not wealthy, I just decided to splurge a bit and have a bit of fun with the modest amount of money I received from my parents estate (they both passed in the last couple years). The Mazda is a top down, good weather vehicle & the Kia is my regular vehicle. Thanks for your reviews, content, advice & just being such blissful people who present great stuff. Have a delightful weekend 💞
So comforting to know that Mazda has kept the MX-5 unspoiled by a turbo, and improvements are actually improved, not changed for the sake of change. More flashy colours please Mazda... brighten up these dreary Canadian roads filled with boring, white and gray scale SUVs and cars...
My recollection was you guys loved the 2023. You had no problems with the ride or the dynamics. I own a 2023 GT RF and just drove the new one. I found the steering TO BE HEAVIER, not as light and the suspension was stiffer, more road feel. Overall I liked the 2023 as much or maybe better. Honestly I could not feel or see any difference in the new car that would make it better to drive, the older versions were just fine!.
Rented an early model years ago for an anniversary week end and loved it then. Drive the loaner this summer and then buy it. No brainer. Put it away for the winter and have a ball in spring '25. You two never disappoint!

I owned a ‘96 Miata, loved it, and haven’t driven one since. My wife and I just bought a ‘24 Mustang GT Premium with the Performance Package so in a way, though both cars are very different, going back to the sports car fun I had in my 20s. I’ll always love the Miata!

I have a 2020 MX-5, fun car. Just bells and whistles on the new ones, no real difference (although the screen is nice). But the new ones are also $4K more than I paid in 2019 for the same model. Lot of money for a bigger screen, no thanks. Have fun!
I love this colour, its refreshing because not everyone wants to stand out with the reddest bright red paint. I wish they would bring back platinum quartz on the MX5.
The 13 seconds for the RF is actually a *feature*. Why cut the show short? People love watching it almost as much as I do. Kids stop in their tracks, you can see them becoming car enthusiasts. Best car I've ever owned and great for long road trips. Sports car fun, amazing stick shift, great MPG if you want it all in a well priced car with exotic car styling, I love my RF. Admittedly, I might be a bit biased. My 3rd Miata after an NA and NB.
Huge fans here too. We just picked up our long term test model over the weekend. We went with the GS-P model with the sport package in Soul Red. Love it!
Congrats on the long term test drive on the MX-5!!! 👏👏👏 Will you guys consider adding this fun ride to your garage for the weekends?? 😅 Look forward to seeing more other long term test drives from you guys!! Thanks for another great and informative review!! 😉👍

Thanks for the enthusiastic, honest review. Love this fun car, plan/hope to buy one. “Soul Red Crystal” is the only interesting color. Mazda should offer other fun color choices. “Aero Grey” blends into the aged asphalt. It’s easy to imagine “Aero Grey” enabling greater instant invisibility in the fog too. In cityscapes, for safety sake, this small car should stand out with bright, loud, fun colors, especially navigating in a sea of SUVs. Mazda could call “Aero Grey” “Concrete Camouflage” or perhaps “Primer Grey”.
I've loved mine. Good review. I watched one of your other ones as well. I did want to mention that the front center console does have enough room for glasses as does the deep-side in front of the shifter pocket. Either of these should hold a phone or glasses, so two phones, two glasses... mix or match, maybe even four if the glasses and phones aren't too big. :)
I’m not so sure about the ‘Primer’ grey paint colour. But otherwise… perfect. I fit into that group that believes … ‘M-iata I-s A-lways T-he A-nswer’. That being said, I personally needed a 4-seater (kids or dog)… so I bought a Carrera cabriolet instead. But even with that being said… the Miata is and has always been one of the very best motorcars in almost every way… especially Price! It should be on everyone’s Buy List (especially used!). Thanks for the video.
We owned three Miatas in our mid-life years and the only regret we had was when we traded in the last of the series. They are wonderful for get-away weekends and add a little fun on the drive to the daily grind.
Hard to beat the fun/$ on these. I had a '15 power retractable hardtop for that summer but my wife found it too cramped so we went back to Boxsters and when she found that still a little small, 911s. But the Miata is a screaming deal for what you get. They really do need to work on inside storage though - a sunglasses case at minimum. Nice review and congrats on the summer ride!
Great news about the long term loan from Mazda. Here’s some advice from an owner of a 21. Get extremely thin sunglasses that fit in the arm rest, always have gloves and a hat in the main glove box, and place the air vents on either side of the wheel so they hit your hands on colder nights. By the way, the most fun I have had in a car is sliding my MX5 on snow.
Wow, thanks for the tips, great ideas! We are really looking forward to our long-term test drive, our MX-5 in Soul Red Crystal Metallic should arrive soon.

I’m in love with this MX-5 so much that I’m wrestling with whether to sell my 718 Cayman for one. MX-5 is less expensive to buy and maintain, gorgeous, and every bit as fun (could it be slightly more fun?!). Agh, what to do??!!
@@andreaspencer9813Andrea, if you like ferries, come out to where I live in the Kootenays. Stop in at Nelson, then take the Kootenay Lake ferry to the east shore. That road, south to Creston, would be a blast in a Miata.
Mazda picked some of the most boring colors for such a fun car. Grey's and whites and dirt colors. This car should have colors that pop. Even Toyota trucks offer Orange. We are 10 years into the soul red, how about something else? Artisan red from the CX90? British racing green? Yellow? Orange? Medium metallic blue that doesn’t look black? Come on Mazda!
@@Tampa- They did an orange from the factory on a special edition for the 30th anniversay in 2019. Shame you have to get a special edition to get a cool color.

Great beautiful fun vehicle! I have never forget one of my old co-worker back in 70’s has similar look of this vehicle and it was fun to ride it. Great show Andrea! 👏🏻👏🏻
Great review & Andrea's manual shifts look smooth. Still on the about upgrading to the same 2024 MX-5 I'm driving right now. A 2016 Club soft top with the Brembo / BBS package ( cloth seats ) / PPF front. Modified with a Flying Miata active exhaust / Verus Engineering AOS ( fancy oil catch can ). The asymmetrical differential / new infotainment / extended RPMs / heated seats are what to weigh into a Huge price difference. 😎

The Miata is basically an MG that works.
Wow! This is such a beautiful and amazing vehicle! I can't wait to see your update videos. This might be my next purchase.
What a beautiful car! Had a Mazdaspeed miata in 2004. Miss it everyday since I sold it it in 08
I can understand why, can't wait until we get our long-term tester.
Love the look of the Miata and would like to get one someday. Never drove one but they are pretty small. I suppose that is why they are so appealing.
I’m in love with this MX-5 so much that I’m wrestling with whether to sell my 718 Cayman for one. MX-5 is less expensive to buy and maintain, gorgeous, and every bit as fun (could it be slightly more fun?!). Agh, what to do??!!
Please roadtrip the summer Miata up through the Okanagan. There are some amazing roads to enjoy there!
We were thinking that or maybe going to Victoria or the Sunshine Coast and take the ferry.
@@andreaspencer9813Andrea, if you like ferries, come out to where I live in the Kootenays. Stop in at Nelson, then take the Kootenay Lake ferry to the east shore. That road, south to Creston, would be a blast in a Miata.
I have a 2016 ND1, still love it so much.
Agree. Burnt Orange would look terrific. I know because someone who must live in the area has one I assume had it painted.
@@Tampa- They did an orange from the factory on a special edition for the 30th anniversay in 2019. Shame you have to get a special edition to get a cool color.
Does it come with an automatic transmission? Don't want manual.
Uh oh that's on Andreas bucket list now. Zack gets his watches and Andrea gets her Mazda 😊
Happy Saturday Guys !!, Love to see You Both enjoying the drive test on the Miata, one question have you driven the automatic and compare with the manual, thank you for the content was very informative and enjoy your stay.
Only new car I am actually interested in ! I just bought a 1993 Miata with a V8 . I absolutely love it .
What is the brand/kind of the microphone you using?
Mazda is the only remaining car maker I truly respect for the thought they put into making every model they produce a "driver's car" - for a sub-Porsche price - along with sleek, gimmick-free exterior designs. 'Looking forward to your future Miata reviews - you fun-loving bums!
Do these still have rust issues?
Great beautiful fun vehicle! I have never forget one of my old co-worker back in 70’s has similar look of this vehicle and it was fun to ride it. Great show Andrea! 👏🏻👏🏻
So fun and glad you enjoyed the show. Our long term test drive MX-5 will be arriving soon, we went for Soul Red Crystal metallic, what a great colour.
@@andreaspencer9813 I agree the colour is nice. 👍🏻
I hope you review the RF as well! I want to get one since raincouver doesn't disappoint
Cozy 🧐. I’d say small/tight maybe. Owning a Miata is a Labour of Love !
It sure is, what a wonderful little sports car.
Somehow these get me more excited that big power muscle or supercars. It just looks so much fun! Hope to own one someday. Yay for your long term test, wonder how often Andrea will pick it over the GTI.
i think it's cooler than a telsa for sure.
Always love your reviews. Owned a Miata. Switched to Z4 6M. Now my Z4 is 5+ yrs old. Would you recommend a switch back to this new Miata or get the new Z4/Supra which come with 6 Spd M now. I know the BMW/Supra twins are "spendy" as Zack often says. Is there any car ...I mean ANY car that can beat the sweet manual transmission of a Miata? Buttery smooth...
Boxster
@@Motormouth... Forgot your middle name is "Ferdinand"!!
9:07 What's the magic word, Zack? "Please!" But seriously, the engine noise, whether it's exhaust or induction, seems like it needs work.
One of my favorite roads! What a blast a Miata on that road must be.
Is the MX5 comfortable enough for a road trip ?
Thanks for this. Well done.
Good grief! What is that lever on the right side of the centre console?? Could it be a handbrake?? Three cheers for a handbrake.
looking forward to your long term test information, always thought this was a great little sports car as well, have fun
Thank you, we are looking forward to taking some road trips with it!
I loved my NC. I wish they had better color options with the light interior, it’s a shame you cannot have the tan interior with the red paint
Oh my god. If going on a road trip with Miata, that’s gonna be awesome!!!!!
