Well done mate! I have just bought a 2015 ND & am so impressed with it. It annoys me a tad to hear some of the chicken shit comments made about this car by some 'testers'. Almost no owners will ever do track days or put the car to 'serious' use. To think that Mazda have made this car in so many variable options is amazing. We should all say a HUGE thank you to Mazda; who else is servicing this need? Testers complain about storage space & those bloody cup holders; what is the intense interest with North Americans with poxy cup holders? The other 'thing' is power. Again, what the hell do you people want. This is a car that reflects the ethos of sports cars from the past. DAre I mention Austin Healy & MG for starters. However, the ND Miata excellent in all ares that these older never could or ever will.
@@BrianMakse Enjoyed your video BriaNn I truly believe that 'we' are so lucky to have a manufacturer that gives us such a terrific car/driving experience; WELL DONE MAZDA.
Hi Brian, thanks for another great vid. Am from the UK. Have a 2023 MX5 ND Homura (2.0L 184bhp) in Soul red. Its awesome. However...... There is a problem with the roof mechanism, which as you rightly say is so so easy to drop from the drivers seat, even when at a stop light. But as I have found out, dropping it from the drivers seat means one handed operation and that can cause the roof mechanism to misalign over time! Had my car from Dec 2023. 9 months later..... when I asked Mazda about it via my local dealer, I was advised that Mazda say you must get out of the car and push the hood back, and push it down with 2 hands to lock in the open position! I had an RF before and swapped to the roadster partly because the soft top was so quick and simple to operate! The consequence of not doing it the "official" way is that the leading edge of the roof can move forward over time, so that it scuffs the rollover hoops. And that scuffing can then wear the hood material. And in my case, created a small tear. A hole in the fabric of a convertible is not good news! My car is under warranty - and is currently awaiting a new roof which will be supplied and fitted by Mazda. (Thank you Mazda). There is a fix apparently - so any owners out that may want to enquire about the mod before the roof gets damaged. Would be interested to hear Dave Coleman's view on this. Keep the vids, interviews and insights coming!
I am absolutely so impressed over the years with Mazda‘s attention to detail. They are running this car in its last year no more than two before electrification and they put so much effort into this car at this point is amazing. I made so much more improvement I just pulled the trigger on a black club package, I’ve been looking at it wanted one since 2016! I get it now never or never
Good choice! The only other color I think is worthy! Couldn’t believe all the “vanilla” ones at the dealership!!! What’s the point?? If they are into beige maybe Miata is not best choice.
Another great episode, Brian. I took the plunge on a '23 RF last year, and am impressed that they made an already-great car better for '24. But although the improvements sound great, your insightful review made me feel like my older car isn't total crap compared to the new one, which I appreciate. Thanks!
Looking forward to getting mine! I've got a 2024 that's currently in transit and should be here in a couple of weeks. It's set up just like this one here - Club trim, manual, soft top, with the BBS/Brembo/Recaro package. Only thing was I got it in white (had Soul Red on my 2020 MX-5 and currently have it on my 2023 Mazda3 Turbo hatch so I couldn't do it again). Can't wait for it to get here and take advantage of the summer driving season!
Great minds think alike! I’ve ordered that exact package in Soul Red Crystal earlier this week :) Thanks for the video, this one’s the best about ND3 so far - actual insights and valuable info! 🎉

TY Brian for this update video on the 2024 Club soft top with the BBR option. Still on the fence about trading in my 2016 MX-5 Club sof top speced with the Brembo / BBS but cloth seats. Thing is prices have jumped quite a bit & I have added some mods I really love. Front PPF / Flying Miata active exhaust / Verus Engineering Air Oil Separator. So to move off my ND1 would be a significant cost. Not to mention my car has none of the nannies telling me what I already know. Like the interview with Dave explaining that new asymmetrical differential ! Great stuff ! 😎
The 2019 power upgrade combined with the 2024 interior/steering upgrade would be a big step up from your 2016. I am holding out for Mazda to hopefully announce a SE for 2025.
@@Chilicharger665 To me that power upgrade extends the rpm's. The torque curve on the ND1 is virtually the same down at 1st & 2nd gears. That is where much of the momentum is built up. Steering / infotainment / driving dynamics / heated / Recarro seats is what the Huge price increase means to me. Is it worth all that $$$ ?
@@ag4allgood i bought a 2016 new and a 2019 new. I thought the 2019 engine upgrade was EXACTLY what was needed. I really do enjoy the extra brake feel the Brembos provide, so they are worth it. Recaros actually feel like a sports car seat and are worth it. However, I want a full-house GT. The reason I want to hold out for a SE is because that is the only time Mazda will combine the GT features with all the Club performance bits. The last time they did that was the 2019 Anniversary Edition.

For some dumb reason, Mazda tends to stick to, for the most part, boring colors for the MX-5. Makes no sense to me, to have a fun, obtainable car, and keep the colors (mostly) ultra conservative.
@@Quidisi I honestly think they don't want to tool up or change the assembly line for additional colors for a low production number car like the MX-5. I really want that light blue they offer. Plus most people seem to enjoy boring colors... although maybe this is because what is available?
Nice review, your tshirt says 'save the manuals' but through those corners it looks like you just stayed in 4th, rowing up and down through that delightful gear-box is one of the joys of this car (I own a 2002 Miata). Car looks great...not sure about that weird coffee color...
I’m still over the moon with my ‘23 club. Did some springs, sway bars and a proper alignment and it’s such a blast. Glad the Miata lives on for ‘24, surprised they didn’t do a 35th anniversary color since it technically started in 1989. Maybe they’re waiting until 2025.
Mazda Philippines did a Miata Cup 23rd Anniversary Edition this year, I guess it's been for sale there for only 23 years (or 23 years of the Cup Edition?) not 35 like in the USA.. It's not a single color, it looks like a racing graphics package really. Only 23 units available for the country.
No its not. The snap oversteer in the earlier nd models can be very dangerous. Its a big difference. That alone is the reason i will buy this nd3. Now i can say without doubt this is probably the best production sports car ever made. Sorry porsche
Great review. As an 21 ND2 owner, best news I heard for daily drivability is the improved (hopefully because it’s less buggy) UI screen and Heat now available for the Recaros. Mazda please bring back the 30th Anniversary Orange exterior grey-orange interior. I would absolutely replace my red with black interior.
I test drove a Miata some time ago - only one complaint: it hurt my face. I got a face cramp from the permanent grin I had plastered on for the whole time - so much fun to drive! What’s with the color though? I get that it’s all personal preference but the brown does nada for me.
I’m fortunate enough to live within 30 minutes of my local mountain roads and if I had this one I would ditch the factory wheels and suspension setup like I did for my 3rd gen Miata. The 4th gen is beautiful.
Hi Brian. The 2024 model has a new infotainment screen, unlike the previous models which use the screen from the CX-5. The screen is permanently on, and can't be switched off. In the CX-30, the infotainment system can be switched off by giving the volume dial a long press. I wonder if this new MX-5 has this same feature?
Is it just me, or is the exhaust quieter? Are there gasoline particulate filters or something? And how is the intake noise? Does it sound the same on the inside vs an ND2? How is the throttle response? I saw they did a slight change to throttle tuning and want to make sure the car isn't mushier or slower to pickup on throttle stab vs an ND2. Does the Bose sound system sound as good with the new infotainment and therefore, probably a different amp than the ND2? Also, how on earth did the car gain 18lbs? (Apparently up 24lbs to 2374lbs in Canada 🤷♂️) Great review man, despite my concerns, it still looks like an excellent drivers' car considering all the gov't red tape of our post-2020 life. The improvements to steering feedback and diff stability are welcome
Glad you enjoyed the episode! Without measuring it, the exhaust and intake seem to be about the same volume, but to my ears the exhaust has a little more low frequency to it. Throttle response seems to be about the same as ND2. As good as ever. The Bose is fine, better than the base system, but I'm not the guy to ask. Several years racing loud Hondas did some damage. Curb weight increases often go unreported and then show up in one fell swoop, which could be the case here.
3:23 - Mazda put money into a nice presentation of the engine. As in, that beautiful alloy cam cover. Check a BMW: Under the plastic Shroud of Mystery is a cheesy plastic cam cover.
I have a 2023 Miata and just test drove a 2024.Im a fairly good driver but don't have your experience ( Although when I was young I went to formula ford racing school at Sears point and won on race day) as well I don't have your confidence so what I noticed that you might not is when i'm guilty sometimes of lifting off throttle in a corner where your confidence would stop you from this and what I noticed is it seemed not to feel as nervous as my 2023.I'm not sure if the new steering helped at all and i'm sure I have the same tires so I think it's the Diff. And by the way I also had a Toyota Supra 82-86 mine being an 86 and I just loved that car.I put 300k on it and not once did it break down but wasn't it funny that from outside it looked so long in front but from inside you felt like their was a submarine behind the drivers seat.
Previously owned a ‘91, a ‘98, ‘an 08 and a ‘19 (Fiata). Just picked up a ‘24 GT RF. Each one of the past cars was great fun to drive. You very correctly described the ‘24 as a further refinement of the brand, however. Feels a little like my sneakers have been replaced by leather driving shoes. 😊
If you want one to keep for 10 plus years then grab it. If you'd like the newest thing on the market hold your money as the next Gen is on the horizon.
Great review as always, Brian. This ND3 has my attention over your previous recommendation, the GR86. Unfortunately for me, my wife doesn't like that car. This MX-5 is a serious contender with all of the updates although I may just wait on some news on the new Prelude as that would have room for my whole family. Anyway, its nice to have some awesome choices!
Good review... But, did you take out that squirrel (5:33)? And, the ground clearance on the ND3 is excellent at only 5.3 inches (bom-bom-bom)... What was that?
Hey Brian, quick question... I know you're all for the 2024 GS-P soft top with the sports package but what about the soft top GT? Theyre pretty much the same price, so for someone who isn't going to track the car ever, is it the way to go?
@BrianMakse I heard a rumour that the GT has Bilsteins too but I can't find proof of it online. I see there's a RF with grand sport package but I think the price and the wind buffeting would be too much to bear. GS-P or GT... I think a test drive will settle the debate! Thanks Brian.
Can anyone tell me is the air box in the 2024 Miata any different because I test drive one and it sounds a little better than my 2023.If it's the same I need to look at mine and see if something is wrong.
@@BrianMakse Yeah I have heard people complain about the RF that with the top down, whether windows are up or down, there is a weird air pocket that doesn't go away and is super loud.
I am torn between buying a new Mazda MX-5, or a pre-owned (flat 6) Porsche Boxster (well cared for). The Boxster is, obviously, more thrilling to drive, which is a BIG deciding factor, and the purchase price would be about the same. Thoughts?
I might be biased as a nd2 owner. but miata is lighter. the gearing is more fun for the street. and it's much much cheaper to track since all the consumables and mods are dirt cheap. and you have more modern creature comfort than an older boxster.
Love the car, hate the colour. Why won't Mazda bring back a beautiful BRG/Tan leather combo or Brilliant Black metallic/red leather? Heck even the Sunburst yellow.... the current batch of colours are boring for the exception of Soul Red Crystal.
I have said this same sentiment over and over, Mazda used to have a special edition or limited color like every year…..now they occasionally add a horrible and boring color every year
@BrianMakse Just take a seat in a BMW Z4 and you understand immediately what @robertlewis9419 is talking about. This dollhouse is an imposition to everyone who is bigger than a small Japanese woman.
I had thought about getting one of these for years.Saw your video on the base model and when the dealers here had a sale in February I put in an order.Lucky enough to have retired in Spain where will be on the Autovia as little as possible. My dog will be riding shotgun so don't want to throw her around. It was designed with the 1.5 in mind for Japan and Europe.Dealer informed me this week the chassis was on the line and might arrive in June. For this country base is ace and not being a fan of red,3 shades of white or grey, gone gangster black. Thanks for another good review.
Such a wonderful little car that deserves all the accolades tossed its way. My beloved 2018 is juuuuuust about paid off, and I have no plans to upgrade to the ND3. My only complaints about the car are that the wheel is too far way (mitigated somewhat in the ND2) and the stupendous road noise coming through the soft top on the highway. If it wasn’t for that it’d be the perfect road trip car. I wonder if anyone offers an aftermarket soft-top headliner that can quieten the din…
Too bad the weight got up relatively to the ND2. I don’t want Mazda to take this thing lightly (😉), the Miata should always be about being lightweight.
The 2024 Mazda MX-5 ND3 is a highly anticipated sports car that is expected to offer an exhilarating driving experience. With its sleek and stylish design, the MX-5 ND3 is sure to turn heads wherever it goes. Under the hood, it is rumored to have a powerful engine that will provide plenty of horsepower and torque. Additionally, it is expected to offer a range of advanced features and technologies that will help to enhance both performance and comfort. Overall, the 2024 Mazda MX-5 ND3 is shaping up to be a fantastic sports car that is sure to impress drivers and enthusiasts alike.
The problem with the miata club....an extra 7K gets you at premium package 2023 Mustang 5.0, or V6 Camaro with all the goodies. And those cars work well as gts AND weekend warriors. Luggage space, a back seat, and NO insults from 'da boyz'.
You lost when you said V6 Camaro. Yikes. No true car fan wants a V6 Mustang or Camaro. Yes I get that the hp is what the LS1 V8 was on the Z28. But it’s a boring car.
@@aover7220 Yeah. I get it. I actually own a V8 Mustang. And it HAS to have a v8. That said, if you are gonna be made fun of for driving a miata, you're gonna get made 'slightly' less fun of driving the camaro. Plus, I drove all these vehicles. The V6 Camaro is pretty damn good.
The color is awful! I want the great colors that they used to have. I drive a Miata Grand Touring RF in Crystal Blue Mica. I love it!! It really is a beautiful car, but I would not want to upgrade to a newer one because of the colors or lack of colors.
@@federiconalos8202 AHHHH You own a 62 MGB! Now that is a very cool car!! Congrats on writing the check and owning a new Soul Red Crystal Miata! It is truly a beautiful car!!
--> and what will be the unpleasant surprises in terms of engine management? Have you more important information? if I don't make a mistake...because the level of CO2 emissions per kilometer decreases (for 2.0 engine)...and this has consequences on the engine and its reliability. this has been visible among other automobile manufacturers for many years...
Brian, your review is just a rehash of the official mazda press release. You know your lesson pretty well, but it is boring for real sports car connoisseurs like me, that like feedback explanations about the car that weren't told by the manufacturer.
I gotta be honest: I was glad to unload my Miata after 2 years of ownership. Just too, too, too many areas of "Friday afternoon engineering", poor tuning and lazy cost-cutting. The car handles terribly, as if it is on stilts. It seems to have good front end grip, but that is only because there is no rear grip. That is the way muscle cars in the 1970's handled. The engine was 100% dull econobox. At least 3 people called it a "lawnmower". The seat is 4 inches too high. The rear-view mirror comes straight from a mazda minivan from 1990. In the end there were 3 surprises: 1) great headlights 2)good stereo 3) looked great. But there is a reason everyone immediately puts coilovers and aftermarket wheels on this thing.
You must have a very unique driving style to arrive at the conclusion that an MX-5 doesn’t possess balanced handling. Plenty of owners mess up their cars by poor aftermarket wheel, tire, and suspension choices.
You used to be able to pick up miatas for $2K. Because lets be honest, they are kinda shitboxes, they handle well and the shift feel is great but thats it. The engine is anemic, they rust, average reliability and are as loud as it cane be driving around in one. I've lost interest, they were cheap toys that are now collectable trans formers. Not worth it imo.

Curb weight increases often go unreported and then show up in one fell swoop, which could be the case here.
very nice video....Thanks for the technical info.
Most welcome!
3:23 - Mazda put money into a nice presentation of the engine. As in, that beautiful alloy cam cover. Check a BMW: Under the plastic Shroud of Mystery is a cheesy plastic cam cover.
This is the best review I've seen on this car
That’s precisely why I took the time out of my crazy schedule to make it happen. Cheers!
Hopeful for the 35th Anniversary Edition release otherwise there's still the Spirit Racing.
What's that?
@@BrianMakse A new version of Mazdaspeed.
More B roll. Love being able to watch a chassis roll/rotate and see how it moves.
There’s an entire separate video with that! Should be linked in the description.
What roads are those?? Look super fun!
They are!
Did the new dif etc fix the snappy oversteer problem?
There is no oversteer problem with the ND1 or ND2. The changes are subtle and make the experience both more enjoyable and engaging.
I wish the channel store had a shirt with a Miata on it.
Get some #savethemanuals merch! A Miata shirt would require a licensing agreement with Mazda.
If you want one to keep for 10 plus years then grab it. If you'd like the newest thing on the market hold your money as the next Gen is on the horizon.
@@GNMi79 naw it will be a hybrid w/ a standard and decent hp.
I wonder how it does in the high mountain roads of Colorado, the horsepower may be a tad lacking.
Like all other naturally aspirated engines at high altitude…
Great review as always, Brian. This ND3 has my attention over your previous recommendation, the GR86. Unfortunately for me, my wife doesn't like that car. This MX-5 is a serious contender with all of the updates although I may just wait on some news on the new Prelude as that would have room for my whole family. Anyway, its nice to have some awesome choices!
This ND3 is as good as these get! I don’t know anything about the Prelude, but choice is always a good thing!
What a great review mate! Well done...
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good review... But, did you take out that squirrel (5:33)?
And, the ground clearance on the ND3 is excellent at only 5.3 inches (bom-bom-bom)... What was that?
No wildlife was harmed in this episode!
Excellent! If you had, I know four squirrels that I feed everyday on my back porch that would have been looking for you... :)
I wish there was an option for a flat bottom alcantara steering wheel from factory
Thank you for your review, love it!
My pleasure!
You are right. I know because I own one! Thanks for the great review!
Hey Brian, quick question... I know you're all for the 2024 GS-P soft top with the sports package but what about the soft top GT? Theyre pretty much the same price, so for someone who isn't going to track the car ever, is it the way to go?
For you, it sounds like the GT may be the better choice. I’m a big fan of the Brembos and the Bilsteins.
@@billlyle8539 that should do the trick! Enjoy!
Can anyone tell me is the air box in the 2024 Miata any different because I test drive one and it sounds a little better than my 2023.If it's the same I need to look at mine and see if something is wrong.
excellent reviews as always,
I appreciate that!
Where is the weight gain from? 4:04
How does this car do on a road trip 5-6 hours as far as comfort?
10/10
Is this better than brz and gt86? I’m

How is the Bose system?
Better than the standard system, but it’s not the most quiet car!
@@BrianMakse Yeah I have heard people complain about the RF that with the top down, whether windows are up or down, there is a weird air pocket that doesn't go away and is super loud.
Base is still ace? Or not any more for ND3?
We’ll see when I drive a base car, but without the killer limited slip, it’s gonna be hard to justify an open diff 😎
Who was the emphasis guy? Does he work for Mazda?
He might.
Awesome review, I appreciate the actual dynamic driving review. And you're right, Crystal Red is the color to have 🤣
What road is that? I’m looking for somewhere fun to take my Abarth 500. 😬
There’s a clue in the description!
Oh, boy. I’m bad at this. Lol. Dave Coleman. Mazda HQ is out here in Irvine. That mountain kind of looks like Angeles Crest?
@@LanceCorporal_Waffles kinda sort...email me at my first name at my last name dot com and I'll send it to you
Did the critter survive at 5:34 ?
I saw that! Hopefully.
Do you want a car to drive or to look at? Btw the boxster is not better to drive. It’s just faster.
Thanks for the feedback. Funny, I’ve driven both cars and the Boxster seemed more engaging and exciting to drive. I guess it’s a subjective thing.
Thanks for the feedback. I won’t be tracking the car, and I’m not that concerned about cost. I just want the most fun when on the road.
@@shen1han The quality of the Mazda is much better & the Mazda is so much cheaper to service & will be trouble free for many years to come! !
Great review!
Can I transplant the drivetrain into a 72 Lotus Elan?
Hate when people say stuff like “how much mpg does it get? Who cares?” I care, bro.
Chasing fuel efficiency in a sports car removes all of the joy.
i want an Nd1 1,5 or an ND2 2.0❤❤❤
You can’t go wrong.
Love the car, hate the colour. Why won't Mazda bring back a beautiful BRG/Tan leather combo or Brilliant Black metallic/red leather? Heck even the Sunburst yellow.... the current batch of colours are boring for the exception of Soul Red Crystal.
I'm not sure what's going on with colours this year, but do you know what next year is?
2025 😂 36 years of the MX-5?
Fr and even though soul red Crystal is cool, being the only cool colour means you see it everywhere. Would be nice to have variety
I love this color, more than all the others. Maybe it’s just me?
I have said this same sentiment over and over, Mazda used to have a special edition or limited color like every year…..now they occasionally add a horrible and boring color every year
Thanks!
Thank you!
As always by time they make this model 2 perfection; they come out with a new model and start over again😂😂😂❤
I would love the option of factory turbo. It's a much more enjoyable ride than my old Mini S but it feels gutless compared to that turbo.
Great car. Beautiful style. If you fit. Sold mine. Just uncomfortable after an hour. Just too small. Make it a touch bigger and add 60 hp.
I did six hours of seat time across Southern California, up and down mountains, freeways, errands, you name it. Perfectly comfortable.
@BrianMakse Just take a seat in a BMW Z4 and you understand immediately what @robertlewis9419 is talking about. This dollhouse is an imposition to everyone who is bigger than a small Japanese woman.
Great video. It is mind no other car brand comes close to build quality and great dynamic driving performance than the MX-5.
watching this with my 100 dollars in my savings
I had thought about getting one of these for years.Saw your video on the base model and when the dealers here had a sale in February I put in an order.Lucky enough to have retired in Spain where will be on the Autovia as little as possible. My dog will be riding shotgun so don't want to throw her around. It was designed with the 1.5 in mind for Japan and Europe.Dealer informed me this week the chassis was on the line and might arrive in June. For this country base is ace and not being a fan of red,3 shades of white or grey, gone gangster black. Thanks for another good review.
Top reminds of the original Fiat 124 spider top, i.e. one-handed up-and-down.
2019 was a huge powertrain update and now this 2024 refresh did the steering and interior. It will be a great upgrade over your 2018.
Loverly car
Indeed.
God I wish the hardtop weren't a Targa.
i want one :`(
Please do a show on the 24’ Nissan Versa S with the 5 speed manual!
Um, nobody cares about the Nissan Versa.
If your blind folded just don’t do that while you’re driving lol
Too bad the weight got up relatively to the ND2. I don’t want Mazda to take this thing lightly (😉), the Miata should always be about being lightweight.
That Vantage looks great without roof.
Wait...
Drive hard, get hard!
The steering wheel looks to big
Ugh! This color gives me mix feelings..
The problem with the miata club....an extra 7K gets you at premium package 2023 Mustang 5.0, or V6 Camaro with all the goodies. And those cars work well as gts AND weekend warriors. Luggage space, a back seat, and NO insults from 'da boyz'.
I'm paying for a small lightweight car that's cheap to run on track.
Dude Dave has no clue what he should talk about ;-)
🤣🤣🤣
This color does nothing for me
The color is awful! I want the great colors that they used to have. I drive a Miata Grand Touring RF in Crystal Blue Mica. I love it!! It really is a beautiful car, but I would not want to upgrade to a newer one because of the colors or lack of colors.
Soul crystal red metallic FTW!
Yes, that is the only color I would consider, but like I said I love mine! it is so fun to drive!!
Mine is a Soul Red Crystal! I wrote a check for it on the 7th of May.
Beautiful car. It's almost like my 62 MGB in body style.
😕
...and if you buy it from Windsor Mazda you get to pay $10k over MSRP. Crooks.
I need auto blipper
They make those, called automatic transmissions.
Would be nice to have with a dedicated toggle button
Brian, your review is just a rehash of the official mazda press release. You know your lesson pretty well, but it is boring for real sports car connoisseurs like me, that like feedback explanations about the car that weren't told by the manufacturer.
I realize that because no one can compete with a real sports car connoisseur like you.
they are NOT doing this for a long time - this is the LAST MX5 - so you better hurry and get yours before it is sold out
So Mazda has a new color, no thanks. They can make this color, but you can't get a 2024 red one with tan leather interior. WTH?
yes I only want a tan interior… and white is a no-go so it’s Aero Grey then.
ND is anything but timeless. It's design is a product of modern, "wanna be aggressive" design language. Looks terrible.
I don’t recall discussing aesthetics in this episode.
Needs dct tran nie
This car is perfect for the women drivers in America...😅😅😅😅😅😅At least where I live, I wouldn't be caught dead in this clown car.
I’m sure you’re an incredible driver, too
@BrianMakse Well thank you for the compliment, Yep better than most.
