Prince was one of the all-time greats. Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman, two key members of his 1980s era band the Revolution, are also formidable musicians and songwriters.
@270yis7 Yes they are great, too. They didn’t write this song though. He says that at the beginning because in the plot of the movie they wrote the song. Prince actually wrote the son. He wanted Stevie Nicks to help him on it, but she declined saying it was just too much.
@@tracynorman1455 You're right that they didn't write the song, but they did come up with the intro. Prince made them play it over and over before they left for the night. He stayed up all night and crafted the song based on their intro in basically one night of fever dream inspiration. Which wasn't unusual for Prince.
This was played during my friends remembrance, he was a big Prince fan, and so this song holds another meaning to me now when hearing it..miss you buddy.
@@TreyMessiah95 It may be anecdotal, but anytime I've heard a discussion about who the greatest guitarists are, it would be between SRV, EVH, Jimmy Hendrix, I've even heard "slow hand" Clapton, BB King, Roy Clark etc...I've never heard Prince brought up in the discussion and I believe he should have been. Just my perspective and 2 cents.
I think Purple Rain is a very good movie. Just remember when watching it that a) it was made in 1983 and b) except for the two people who played his parents none of the cast was actors. The cast were mostly from his hometown of Minneapolis and his friends and fellow musicians.
Steph Price has to be one of the most creative artist of our error. He wrote so much music for so many people. His friends let him down and didnt help him when he was at the bottom of the lowest can you can go. Its all about the money and this man went down in flames.
Prince was a brilliant musician and performer.I was lucky enough to see him twice in concert.Purple Rain is one of the best songs ever written. The night Prince passed away, several bands that were on tour incorporated Purple Rain into their performances.Including David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, and Bruce Springsteen, and Jeff Beck.
I used to see Prince perform regularly when he was a teenager in Minneapolis. He often played in Bunkers bar. BTW Kid Johnny Lang used to play that same bar regularly when he was 15. I used to shoot pool with his dad during the sound checks.
Ikonic song and performer! For another jolt of his energy see his performance at the Super Bowl in the pouring rain, he turned what could have been a disaster into one of his defining moments and slayed that crowd and the whole world that night. Enjoy! 🔥🎸🎤
Hi Steph, a bit of history about this song, it was recorded live and originally it was 13 minutes long, for the album it was edited down to 8 mins and 45 sec and added the strings arrangement to it. For a fun Prince performance to watch, I recommend It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night, which is from the Sign O The Times concert movie.
I'm enjoying seeing your appreciation develop for this once-in-a-generation artist. I really hope you do more. I think you're find a treasure trove of material written by this brilliant man that will move your spirit. Some recomendations: Let's Go Crazy When Doves Cry (find the "Extended Version" of this video - or else you will miss the full song and video) The Beautiful Ones Raspberry Beret I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man I Wanna Be Your Lover Damn U Scandalous Most of the above songs were big hits for Prince and all have videos that you can react to. Some of Prince's material is rated R but these selections above are quite tame--PG at worst. :-)
He performed this song at a Superbowl 1/2 show in the pouring rain, he was asked do you want to cancel the show it's a downpour out there, his answer was "can you make it rain harder".
Yes, absolutely watch this movie! I have every studio album he ever made, including the original release of this song on purple vinyl! You owe it to yourself to watch this movie at least once in your life…!
Steph , simple watch the Movie "Purple Rain" . The album won Prince his 1st Grammy awards . The movie is considered to be semi-biographical and was written by Prince . For another suggestion for a reaction check out the long form version of "Cream" which has a litttle story attached to the official video .
My favorite Prince story, before his halftime performance folks asked it's raining pretty hard do you want to still perform? His answer, make it rain harder. ❤
Purple Rain is a great movie and album. There are many great songs from both. Prince was a genius songwriter. Many of his best songs were on that album. “When Doves Cry” is amazing even without a bass line. The movie even featured other artists such as Morris Day and the Time and Apollonia Six.
I was very lucky to see him live at Rock over Germany, maybe 5 metres from the stage. He seemed so surprisingly small and fragile when he entered the stage and he seemed so big and indestructible when he left the stage after the concert. A true legend.
Rest in Peace Prince! He has a lot of great songs for you to draw from. Including “Little Red Corvette”, “Raspberry Beret” and “Let’s Go Crazy. “Edit” I see you’ve already done Little Red Corvette. 😁
You should react to this movie... all the movie is is a storyline with every song in this album being either performed live or in a video format alongside to the story. You would be reacting to every song on this album. You could even do it in parts, individual song reactions using the movie scenes, with parts of the movie storyline. Anyway, great reaction. Thank you. ❤
Whenever people react to this, I kind of groan a bit because this isn't really a regular music video so much as it is a scene taken from the movie Purple Rain that they released as the music video. And has no context for those who haven't seen the movie. Nevertheless, it is an epic song and I hope you will explore more Prince, because he's my very favorite musical artist. Btw, when you commented that you actually wanted to find out more of the story behind the scene, it was enough to earn you my subscription. Please, continue on your Prince journey. My first recommendation to you would be "Sweet Baby" by Prince. I think it will help your healing.
Steph iconic beautiful song .. For your own enjoyment search and enjoy the tribute to Prince after his death . Jeff Beck and Beth Hart Purple Rain Hollywood Bowl .❤❤ Also Eddie Vedder and the Earthlings version too ..
i fell asleep in the theater watching this when it first came out... woke up 2 hours later and an empty theater! my girlfriend also feel asleep... hehe
Great reaction!..U've got to watch this movie "Purple Rain" the performance he gave after this song was truly EPIC! Please react to my favorite song from this album THE BEAUTIFUL ONES
Music and relationships are often very much intertwined, This is the original version. I’ve seen several versions including live at the Super Bowl so be sure to check that one out too!
This is NOT my favorite version. It it a clip straight out of the movie Purple Rain. So all is scripted, audience is not a "real" audience, most of the people are characters in the movie.... Purple Rain, Live in Syracuse 1985 is amazing....... and was in an actual concert. The intro is very long, not a lot going on, but when Prince starts in, it is magical..... There in another floating around that is also super good, sorry I don't have details on where to find it.

Si se te escapa una lágrima en alguna reacción, no te la seques. Dejala que caiga, porque esa lágrima no va a volver estéril. Desde Argentina te escribo. Gracias

One of the most underrated guitarists of our time...RIP...
Prince was not underrated he is known for his guitair solos lol

Yes Purple Rain is a movie. One of the best soundtracks of all time also
Movie's pretty good. Album is a masterpiece. I'd check out Sign Of The Times or Parade as other classic albums from Prince. Man is a legend.
Controversy, 1999, Musicology, The Gold Experience and the B-side’s are also no skip classic albums. If we’re naming great experiences with Prince.🫡👍🏿
Prince was a treasure solid musician brilliant lyricist ✌️❤️🏴.
i have 13 copies of Purple Rain 11 still sealed.

You know a song is great when you're already singing along on the first listen :)
También pensé eso...la chica tiene una intuición musical que ni Mozart.
I doubt it was her first listen, lol!

I’ve never seen the movie, but I think I might need to now. That video made me cry. Thanks for the reaction. Your heart will heal, dear. Chin up
It is an entertaining film just for the music alone, but yes it is an emotional part of the film.

Such an epic song...and the movie is not bad as well.

Prince era um gênio musical, como compositor, cantor e multi-instrumentista. Faz falta para a música. Obrigado por compartilhar com a gente, Steph 👏
