Beautiful line of knives. I own pretty much all the mega folders released in the past 10 years and just love the feel and handling of them. Best value for a folder imho... unless you plan on fighting a car.
Realistically, I'd expect this from the vaquero, especially serrated. Seeing the tanto tip fail like that was disappointing. Would like to think it's a QC issue, but I doubt it. I've broken enough CS tanto tips.
I expected this. I shoved the CS voyager Large CP into wood a few times. The tip was already bend because of stabbing only. Trying to carefully bend it back, it snapped like a piece of glass. There's no flex to it at all.
hi Joe - i just bought this one with serrated blade - your usual test are fair but i still consider this a pass because its true power is the re-curve for slashing and the tip for self defense - its main targets are - legs - arms - torso - neck - it will never be used for any bush craft - of course i hope it will never be used - but for self defense in a bad situation - anything goes - the current steel is aus10 - maybe that makes a difference
@@jeffkodiac thanks for the info, i never heard that before, but i realy think that this is true, because this knife was sooo bad, unbelieveable easy to break!! I think Cold Steel ist not selling any CTS-BD1 knives any more, some AUS8, but most AUS10, at the cheaper knives!
@@joex Yes and i think AUS10A is a very good steel . I own many Cold steel but I would never dare to do what you do with these knives. It's very good, at least we can see their solidity.
First we have to accept, the vaquero is a cutter and slasher. the tip is long and thin. the last 3rd is very thin, pointy, and rasor sharp. Its a fighter first, a tool second and a bushcraft-beat-the-shit-out-this-knife last....i have the aus 10.
Do you get many requests to test out the Cold Steel recon 1 tanto? Seeing as how its one of their more popular knives, I'm curious how that S35 steel holds up.
Any knife not used as it was intended will break under abuse. What do you think the use of the Vaquero is for? not prying tree stumps. You can break any knife. I own two Vaqueros an XL Serrated purely for self-defence purposes as it is designed to be a weapon, the serrations will cut three times deeper than a fine edge, primary for cutting and slashing secondary stabbing. The human body is made of meat, not wood. My other one is a large Vaquero fine edge which I use for everyday tasks it works well but the blade shape is that of a weapon so is not as good as a fine edge which is not designed as a weapon. If you are new to knives, any questions you may wish to ask, I will answer if I am able, I am an old knife collector.
@@annodomini7250 thanks for sharing, really appreciate, for self defence primary i use a hand gun, and if it gets real an assault rifle, knives, i like to play with them, and recently i deciced to break them all, to see what they can do, and when a tip breaks so easy as on the vaquero i would not reccomend it as a self defence weapon, and i am not new to knives, just that you know, collecting knives is fun for sure, but breaking them, i really enjoy!!! thanks for your time to write the comment, please subscribe, more epic destruction videos are coming soon.....
@@joex everyone can't own a firearm and sometimes self defense doesn't require killing someone. Knives are far from toys and inside 21ft your draw from concealment better be on point because if it isn't I'm going to tag you and now that handgun is mine. 3 sec, 3 meters, 3 shots
I by no means am a metallurgist/steel maker at all, but I have a theory behind it’s poor performance. While the carbon contents of AUS-10A & CTS-BD1 are similar, BD1 has a larger sum of chromium & molybdenum. The two chemicals make a blade tougher & harder, which helps with edge retention & wear under normal usage. Harder steel is also a weakness just as much as it a strength. Being a harder steel, BD1 is also prone to breaking than flexing or remaining permanently bent. Not to mention the primary design of the Voyager series. They are advertised as workhorse knives, but the vaquero is definitely dedicated towards a more martial use. Overall though, cool video bro, just wanted to share my two cents on it.
Still be one of my favorites folder knives, excellent video as always my friend 👍🏼
Thanks!
Great knife for defence. I love it. I bought AUS-10 steel version
cool!
It’s great for offense too 👿👿👿🔪

@@QuakeSphere Yes the Vaquero failed big time! I also think that it is not a QC issuer, the knives are like this! greetings to you!!
Definitely a strict self defense knife. Not a bad deal for what it is. Good review

Same here!
It would be nice to compare the newer AUS10 steel with this knife, maybe serrated! Looks like it's not much for use, maybe good for self defense only.
self defence for sure, but i think AUS10A would be nearly the same result!!
That is its intended use.
I love cs. this type of folder is definitely not a heavy user all around campground knife. excels at defensive applications tho
It is an awesome knife
yes it is!!
I prefer CTS-BD1 over AUS-10, I guess the destructability of the Vaquero has to do with the blade design. Thx for testing!
yeah maybe, i think we will never be 100 % sure what happend!!
@@joex did you ever try the exact same test with a AUS 10A Vaquero?
@@Neon-Lines no
Hey Joe! Can test the Vaquero in Aus10?
nope, will break as well easy!

yeah could be that AUS10 is better!
I wonder if the AUS10A is not more solid than the CTS BD1 ?
yes could be! maybe thats why cold steel changed the steel from CTS BD 1 to AUS10???
@@joex I was told this by a knife seller in France. That the CTS BD1 steel had been abandoned because it was too brittle but i'm not sure it's true .
