Its because its heavy and very thick. Almost any steel with the right heat treating could do this. Its because of geometry

It's 52100 which is pretty good on its own but the interesting thing is it is heat treated to produce bainite which is a steel structure that is very tough.

136 kilometers from the city where I live in Brazil, there is a small town called Treze Tílias (Dreizehnlinden) with 10 thousand inhabitants (all Tyrolean descendants), founded in 1933 by the former minister (1924-29) of Austrian agriculture Andreas Thaler ( Bundesminister für Land- und Forstwirtschaft).
They still speak ancient dialects from their hometowns and brew excellent beer there.
This Andreas Thaler was anti-Semitic, but here in Brazil he stayed quiet hahaha.
In the city where I live, we are descendants of Ukrainians, Poles, Germans and Italians, although foreigners think that all Brazilians are black, dance and play samba, there is practically no carnival in this region of Brazil.
This is just a curiosity, it does not mean that it is better or worse than other Brazilian regions.
We also have excellent cutlers/blacksmiths here.

@@joex you're awesome. How you get these expensive knives just to destroy them is beyond me. I know some knives are not designed for torture tests and meant for cutting ease, but many are and should hold up to the torture tests.

Happy New Year JoeX, realized I've been watching your channel for over two years now, and to be honest I was always worried about the blade stabbing your armpit when you push the blade forward to test the tip. Pulling backward seems to be a safer approach. Wishing you good health and strength. Marlboro!

Obviously the “Ares” beast will outperform a small super slicer with a low sharpening angle, in the rare disciplin stab car, and get shot at in the end. The Ares is a part of my collection, because it looks like something from the game “god of war”, and i just love the brutal look of it, BUT!!! It’s shit to use 💁 you cant even chop with it, unless you take the sharpening angle down by aproximately 50 %. It simply doesn’t go very deep, compared to a Skrama 240 e.g. that only weighs half.
It’s the same with a lot of these other knives being destroyed on this channel. They might not withstand this hardcore and extremely entertaining abuse, but being used as intended, they might just outperform the big and scary “bad boys”.
2 days in Cold weather with a Joe X aproved knife, could lead to dead Batman with blisters, and a lot of ugly feathersticks. Remember this before you purchase a “Bad boy”, unless you wanna put it close to the candle light on the shelf for you to look at once in a while, or maybe handle with your soft office hands.
That Said, i love this channel for what it is ❤️
