    I was hesitant to spend so much money on a phone app. Tossed back and forth between this nvh app and pico's kit, but I've been very satisfied with the app so far! I've learned a lot and also solved a few vibrations without guessing. It's so helpful to be able to zoom in on a specific speed zone (tire / propshaft / engine) I recommend this app for sure.

    Haven't used their software, but there info on 1st order vibrations led me to find and correct an issue where the auto box in my HyundaI Iload was bouncing on its mounts at 13hz and my legs and backside was feeling it. And it was bad.
    The front tyres needed to be run on a road force balancer to reduce the vibration. This was before their app was out. So found a vibration app to read the Hz at 90 kph. Used some tricky maths to compute and get 13hz.
    It turns out this Van is sensitive to tyre variation and the auto box will resonate at the 13hz frequency if its not perfect. They no there stuff these guys👍

      Well done on the problem solving! But you are quite right - they have put the knowledge along with the tricky math into an app that anyone can use.

    Thank you Steven for this one. I have been looking at this app for years, but with a price tag of more than 500$ wasn't very "wife-friendly".
    I have been using a simple vibration analysis app and made the calculations myself based on the tire size, vehicle speed, and the provided FFT, but this app is spot-on.
    Very nice to see it now at 99$.. Just bought it and looking forward to taking the car for a test drive.

      @StevenBTuner  3 года назад

      Hi, thanks for watching and for sharing your experience with the app! I would expect that main dealers would have something like Pico that they could use, but at the very least they should be using NVH. Now that you have narrowed it down you can check for driveshaft damage or worn parts, as well as checking the input shaft to the differential and the output shaft of the gearbox - as they are all going at driveshaft speed. All the best in getting to the bottom of the issue!

      @@rpsspain1966 Hi, thanks for watching! If you are confident that the vibration has nothing to do with the gearbox, then you can just let the app choose 'default' gear ratios, and then the only thing you have to look up is the differential ratio - so not too bad (and even the differential ratio can be worked out manually by lifting the car and turning the tires/driveshaft by hand if you have to).

    • @StevenBTuner
      @StevenBTuner  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, annoying vibrations in BMW cars drive a lot of people crazy for sure, and I am currently working on a video that covers every possible cause. For vibrations at that speed I have found that in almost all cases it is either that the tire is not perfectly round or that the alloy wheel has been damaged (usually the inside edge). It can also be a lost balance weight on the wheel or rust under the brake disc, or sometimes a warped bearing hub if someone has put your wheel nuts on with an air ratchet instead of a torque wrench.

    • @NR5100
      @NR5100 7 месяцев назад

      Thank you for replying! I’ve had my wheels balanced a day ago so maybe it is my brakes! Because this randomly started on its own. Maybe 6 months after doing some top engine work. Potholes are brutal here! So either bent rim or the brakes. Thank you very much!

    • @StevenBTuner
      @StevenBTuner  7 месяцев назад

      On a BMW it is always a good idea to watch the wheel and tire when it is being balanced. If the tire is 1mm out of round or the wheel is damaged in any way then you will feel it and no amount of balancing will correct it. Also, only use somewhere that uses Hunter Road Force balancing machines - only the best will do for these fussy cars.

    • @StevenBTuner
      @StevenBTuner  Год назад

      Hi, I feel a new video is needed! BMW vibration finding is a major nuisance because of all of the possible causes. The first thing to eliminate are the wheels/tires - so if you can swap them out for a known good set then you can eliminate that as a cause otherwise you will need to check for wheel damage, tires out-of-round, and wheel balance. After that the most possible items are the tie rod ends and lower ball-joints if the vibration happens at a steady speed. If the vibration only happens when braking then it gets more complex. If it has been 5+ years since the last suspension work, then a lot of mechanics would recommend buying the kit that includes all of the suspension arms and replacing them all in one go - and I agree with that as once one part starts to wear out then the others are often not far behind.

    • @StevenBTuner
      @StevenBTuner  3 года назад

      Hi, thanks for watching! Whether the $399.99 price tag is considered an absolute bargain or overpriced is really going to come down to personal considerations like how much your time is worth, how many cars you will use it on, and how much money/respect/time/future business that is lost if a wrong diagnosis is made. This product doesn't have any competitors at this price point, so it is hard to say whether it is perfectly priced or not - at one end of the scale there are free vibration analyzers and sound recorders you could use (but then you have to try and analyze and interpret the wave-forms yourself), and at the other end are vibration analysis tools like Pico, but by the time you have specified it with multiple sensors you are into the thousands of dollars.
