It’s pretty amazing what they can create on a phone app now. Nice video Mike!
Thanks Dave. Happy Thanksgiving!
The Disgruntled Mechanic Happy Thanksgiving to you too!
That looks like a great app there Mike and hopefully, it will help you pinpoint your vibration issue. Looking to see what you find out in the next video.
Thanks Terry.
Now this is something different. Thanks for sharing. It's no secret that tire stores always put the most out of balance wheel and tire combo on the right rear. And with Chinese tire manufacturers making up a larger and larger percentage of the industry every year this is becoming more common. My brother has a set of Yokohama winter truck tires that have vibrated since new. It goes away when he switches back over to his summer tires. It cannot be balanced out of the wheel, they've tried. The Chinese tires always seem to take more wheel weight than, say, a Michelin tire in my experience. I would swap the tires front to rear and try it again. If it still exists then it's probably a rear end or driveshaft problem. The backing plates on those model year trucks are known for rubbing but I doubt it would cause a vibration. More of a nuisance than anything.
I think it is a driveshaft problem and will be checking that out. I will try that with swapping the tires. That will make another good video I think! Oh and my backing plates are pretty much gone (rotted out) on this truck!
So what was the hum noise? Low oil? Bad bearing in rear?
Hey Mike! I watched a few videos where John demonstrated the app and it appears to work pretty good. All of his videos shows him demonstrating the app and collecting the data. I see that the app has diagnostic tips outlined in it to help narrow down what the issue is. It would be nice if he would go further into that aspect of the app as I didn't see any information showing an actual diagnosis. Maybe, you'll be able to further the review by going a little further into that aspect of the app. Have a great Thanksgiving today and a great weekend!
+stuzman I hope to. It has had the vibration for awhile so I will get to it when I have time to diagnose. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours also!
I've got the same app... I couldn't wait till it came out for Android a couple months back. Sometimes everything looks good on a hoist and that's when I scratch my head... having some direction from this tool should help me in the future. It has already confirmed my wheel / tire balance issue on my car. =)
Yes I know I should have given you a shout out in the video for telling me when it was on sale. I did give you props in the description below my video. And thank you!
The Disgruntled Mechanic About to start work, so I only skimmed through the video. I'll watch it front to back once I'm home tonight.
It's pretty cool how it can pick up (via the phone) multiple frequencies at once.
Pretty cool indeed, and I used to think accelerometer chips in phones were stupid, only useful for those dumb "tilt the phone to steer" type games. I'm happy to be wrong though!
I won't even tell you where I found the last vibration. lol Happy Thanksgiving to you and Helga
Thanks Glen! for some reason Helga wanted me to tell her where the most vibration was. go figure!
And happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
I looks like road force issues. I had to take my truck back to the tire dealer 3 times before I put the truck in the air myself and measured the out of round of one of my wheels. I used a piece of angle iron while rotating the wheel. Watching the distance between the tire and angle iron. Good luck. I hope I am right. Waiting for video 2
Yeah the app points you in the direction but you still have to do some investigation to figure out the cause.
Good luck you may know already by this time looking forward to it.
good info merry Christmas to you and urs
Thanks Drew! Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Yes, that Weber link was great! thanks!
figured I'd let him explain it. No use doing it again when the expert has already done it!
Cool looking app, thanks Mike
TY!
Looks like a very useful app. Wondered how well it worked
Well it does help pin point it a bit. Not sure that maybe chassis ears would help more.
Happy Thanksgiving Mike!
Very cool Mike!!! Can’t wait for the second video. Wishing you and Helga a Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Thank you! And same to you on the holidays!
These are some Good Vibrations
They have an app for everything - ya have an app to diagnose a cranky wife :)
I do not but I bet if I invented 1 and sold it for $1 I would be a millionaire in no time!!! Happy Thanksgiving Steve!
That's pretty cool. I'm amazed that a phone can be that sensitive and that an app can tell a difference between vibrations. I mean come on, it's a old Chevy. Everything vibrates! LOL
I will really test it. I will try it on the Harley! haha! hope all is well!
Oh and a Happy Thanksgiving to you and Doris!
That's an idea. The Harley will really give it a work out. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Driveshaft lose a weight or have a lot of rust? Or maybe a sticky U-Joint?
Yes to all of these so I do know some things I need to check.
Good one there, just have to us it and trial and error the problem
The app narrows down the area to look at and gives very good information, it appears , on how to diagnose the exact problem. When I get time it is on the list of things to do! Thanks!
Have you paired or linked to obd too? 😊
no
@@TheDisgruntledMechanic I bought it today. Tyres 1&2 yup. Engine 1&2 too. Well. Ford garage been fobbing me off saying the engine vibrations are “normal.” Well now I know they need someone who can do their job properly to investigate
Very interesting looking app. Hopefully it's not the electronic version of snake oil 🤣
+Badgertronix there always is that possibility!
Did you find the root cause of the vibration?
the pinion gear needed to be tightened to proper specs.
@@TheDisgruntledMechanic Pinion bearing preload, wow who would’ve thought! Nice find.
I tried to install that app on my flip-phone ... turns out it was made before phones connected to the internet ... :D :D :D
Yeah That could be a problem! haha!
I'm the last holdout! Trying to put that purchase off as long as possible, lol. They say I'm stubborn. :)
350€???
I know this video is a little old. I saw this and wanted to get this app, then I saw the price and almost choked. Are they insane charging $400 for an android app? Wow...
I got when it was ran on a special. I did not and would not pay that for it. I actually forget what I paid.
@@TheDisgruntledMechanic Ya when I saw that I was like, that damn thing better take my care out and test drive for me. Lol
hahaha! Yep!
Great app but it’s very expensive 399.99 € why ?!
not sure. you would have to ask the seller.
