    It has been five years since the release of the "NVH" app for iOS and the "NVH for Android" app, and they are both going strong. Yes, it is an expensive app, but it also eliminates the guesswork involved in vibration diagnostics. Quit wasting money replacing parts that did not fix the problem and find out what type of vibration you actually have. Additionally, you will find out what type of vibration you do not have.

    Thanks prof about your awesome efforts to simplify that complicated subject in the automotive field which is the NVH , from my humble opinion this app is missed one important thing which is a specification and limitation for the acceptable level of vibration to just clarify the opinion conflict either between the expert to expert or the customer .
    Thanks about your time and efforts

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  8 лет назад +1

      +Mohammed Ali Thank you, that is a common question related to vibration diagnosis, and an important one. There is no such specification. There are two things that affect the acceptable amplitude level of a vibration. 1. The closer you place the smartphone or tablet running the NVH app to the source of the vibration, the higher the amplitude level will be. A vibrating right-front tire will have a higher amplitude level with the smartphone on the right-front side of the dashboard than with the smartphone on the on the left side of the dashboard. This means that the placement of the smartphone affects the amplitude level. 2. Every customer will have their own expectations of what is an acceptable level for a vibration; no two customers will be the same, no expert and customer will be the same. The key to correcting vibration concerns is to perform a road test noting the placement of the smartphone and the corresponding amplitude level before the repair, then make the repair, then road test the vehicle again with the smartphone in the same position as before and make sure the previous amplitude level was significantly reduced. In other words, the specification for amplitude level is to reduce it from what it was before the repairs were made. I hope that helps. Best wishes.

    This is a great app! I am on it now! You are awesome! Keep up with the great work! More covarage would be great and since you have the bluethoot dongle in it, why not to make the app auto read the VIN?
    I know you will be making this better and better every day!! Thank you.

    This is very interesting. I have a 2001 V8 BMW X5 which has a vibration which I cannot locate or solve. It’s very annoying and is the only thing spoiling the drive. I may have to invest in this app to help me diagnose it.

    Hi Mr. Kelly,
    I have looked at several of the vibration tool videos that you have created for us. I do not see any recent ones.
    That said as I hope you are still doing this and the product is still doing well.
    I don’t have much interest in auto.
    We do substantial amount of marine diesel propulsion and power generation for marine and land based.
    Moving these engines around, aligning propulsion drive lines is extremely time consuming and hard on the body.
    I am hoping this would help pin point vibrations in marine engines.
    Even if as simple as moving it closer to suspect areas.
    If you think so, I am ready to buy it.
    I will be happy to do some sea trials and videos and share them with you.
    God bless
    Mike

    Is the amplitude displayed in G-force or milli-G's? The only flaw I can see in you app is that placing the device on various surfaces is going to vary the vibrations transfer to the device. Other vibration meters have a fixed pickup that is attached and is therefore consistent. I think the videos of your app's functionality look great and it is obvious that a lot of work has gone into it. I have quad-lock mounting accessories for my phone and I think a mounting system of this nature improve your app further.

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  7 лет назад

      G-force is displayed, but to three decimal places, so you could interpret it as milli-G as well. The only thing that changes in the app from one surface to another inside a vehicle is the amplitude level. The frequency stays the same. Remember, the frequency tells you which part is vibrating, the amplitude tells you how hard it is vibrating.

      Hi, each of those videos cover one or more tasks you will be questioned on in the A1 and A8 exams. Engine vibrations in A1 engine repair, and high voltage systems in A8 Electrical. Each video's description states the NATEF tasks covered in the video. The ASE exam is based upon the NATEF tasks. Best wishes.

    I'm really impressed by the Accuracy. I saw that its mostly US and Asian cars spported, any plans to add EU cars too? I'm guessing the difficult part is to get all the info from the manufacturers. Are you involved with the development of this app? I will keep an eye on this project :) Thanks!

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  8 лет назад

      +AutoFocus Thank you for the feedback! Yes, we have plans to add many other vehicle brands to the app including EU vehicles. We are currently adding Volvo. We are taking requests for additional brands as well if it help meet the needs of any other organization or user group. The NVH app works with any vehicle if the user supplies the vehicle information required. This video shows how to enter vehicle information for any vehicle not on our list. ruclips.net/video/jw58YZthEiU/видео.html I am involved with the app development as a technical advisor. Thanks for watching!

    Dear sir thank you again for your great videos. Please allow some questions:
    1) Does the app reads the critical point(speed) of the engine and the natural frequencies of the other parts of the car?
    2) Does the critical speed exist in modern petrol engines? Is it in the range of 2000-4000rpm?
    3) Do the ECUs recognize the critical speed rpm and skip it even if the driver has “lock” that rpm with eg cruise control
    4) In case of engine tuning do the ecu of the car recalculate it or there is a way to measure it?
    5) In modern turbo engines do the manufacturers calculate different critical speeds and natural frequencies of turbine, engine and gear box so they do not resonate?
    Thank you in advance of your reply

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  6 лет назад +1

      Hi, no, we do not care about critical speeds. Critical speeds and natural frequencies are not a common cause of customer complaints. This app is not an engineering level tool, it is a service and repair level tool. The app is programmed to know what frequencies to look for and pick them out when they appear. Thanks for your feedback!

    We've been trying to measure vibration or noise for ages.
    We've been remarkably bad at getting consistent readings and quantifying improvements in lubrication... even though it's really easy to feel and hear the difference after bonding a lubricant to an engine.
    Maybe we need a better app?

    I've purchased the app and am troubleshooting a 200,000 mile tired, worn out, 4 cylinder engine-second order vibration. All cylinders are low on compression, but equally. Vehicle drives normally and doesn't stumble or hesitate. It has vibration issues when driving, which were diagnosed as second order engine vibration via the app. Although second order engine vibrations are normal, is there an amplitude at which a motor mount just won't be able to isolate the cabin from? Having a hard time determining if the mounts are worth replacing, or if they're just being asked too much of.

    How would it cope with a 3 cylinder engine, when the dominant vibration is 1.5th order (along with 1st and 2nd order from the motion of the pistons)?.

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  7 лет назад

      Hello, It does not matter how many cylinders the engine has, the NVH app is programmed to know what vibration frequencies are normal and abnormal for each engine configuration. 3 and 5 cylinder engines have unique vibrations for sure, but so do all other engine configurations. Knowing which ones are trouble or not is the key to proper diagnosis and repair. Thanks for your feedback.

    I put a newer engine (4.2 inline 6)in my trailblazer and now some of my dashboard rattles at idle but around 4K rpms the engine vibration is pretty bad.
    I did put a new timing chain in before I installed the engine. I was thinking a flex plate was out of balance but I also wonder if maybe at a certain rpm the chain has a wobble?
    I can't afford this app to use it once time. Any ideas?

    Lets say under load on a test drive you have engine vibration . How do you narrow it down to pinpoint the vibration?

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  6 лет назад

      It will still show up with the same frequency. Nothing else on the vehicle has that vibration frequency, so it points to the engine as the source. After identifying the source, you follow the step-by-step instructions in the help file to isolate the reason for the vibration.

    • @Turbotomass
      @Turbotomass 6 лет назад +1

      oh step by step instructions in the app. I'm dealing with a vibration I believe to engine related based on a neutral run down test. and I have no guide to isolate engine or torque converter. neutral run up nor power braking re produces the vibration. Are the step by step guides available ?? I have an android phone only

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  6 лет назад

      No, the guides are only in the app. We now have an android version as well. See play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=vibratesoftware.jacobkelly.nvh

    • @Turbotomass

      I assume phone compatibility or does all phones have sensors?

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  6 лет назад

      Turbotomass the app is compatible with most phones. If the google play store lets you buy it on your phone, it is compatible. The app has a great help file to help you identify the cause of the vibration, but we cannot guarantee that you can fix your vibration. Some diagnostic procedures require tools you may not have, etc.
