Shaun, you may not know this, but you taught me to wakeboard probably at least 20 years ago. I went to lake Shasta for a family camping trip when I was a young teenager. I saw an amateur wakeboard competition from the shore and became obsessed. However, that same summer I finally got a chance to put on a board and give it a shot. It did not work out, I wasn't able to stand up once. I was frustrated and beat myself up the rest of the summer not knowing if or when I would get a chance to try again. Later that year at a boat show in Portland Oregon, I found a VHS copy of a wakeboard tutorial you'd made that was reminiscent of a classroom setting where all the "students" were you in different goofy outfits and voices. It was hilarious to watch and had all the information I needed. I watched that VHS tape back to back all that winter and the next summer my family ended up going back to lake Shasta and I gat my second chance. By this time, I knew every word to the instructional video and had imagined myself not just standing up on the board, but doing some pretty crazy tricks. The first time hopping on a board that summer I was able to stand up and even clear the wake by the end of the trip. So, 20 some years later, thank you for giving me the skills I needed to learn an amazing sport. The confidence from wakeboarding transfered to pretty much every other sport I've done and I was even able to pass that knowledge on to my friends and family. 🙏
Wow! Some great throwback references here Memento! First place I rented a skurfer from was Shasta too, Silver thorn marina on the lake. Love the Detention memories as well! Thanks for watching and the fun comment!
I ride behind my flats boat. There’s a lot of drawbacks to that but at least we get to ride. We don’t jump real high but we can butter the heck out of the water lol
Hi there, just started wakeboarding. I used very small board, actualy it was kiteboard 131cm from 2002. Now i bought Hyperlite state 2 145cm. Question is, why it feels much harder to cut heelside? when i was cutting with that small board it felt much stronger.
Thanks for asking Aleksandrs! Have you seen the below edits? Reason I ask is because the bigger fins on the smaller board can cause you to rely on them which actually can lead to some bad habits that will hold you back in the long run. Not for sure, but somewhat likely. Check these edits out and let me know how it goes. Fundamentals : ruclips.net/video/eSJPitLMRY8/видео.html Fins : ruclips.net/video/yn_LoFw7D0Q/видео.html
Id love for you to do a video explaining the names of tricks!
I have that planned for episode 2 of this edit.
Awesome!
Hey Shaun great vid… Where can I buy those shades? 👌🏼😎

Right on! That's what I'm talkin about. Just getting on the water behind whatever is a great way to have a good time!
Dude! I remember the Skurfer, I had the bright yellow one. I broke one in half while landing a wake to wake jump. I think I sill have my other one.
I broke the yellow one in half too!
Heeey thank you!!!
For sure Dane!

What is the difference between regular and switch Shaun?
Regular is when you are riding with your dominant foot in the front and Switch is when you're riding with your not so comfortable foot in front.
The actual mechanical term to the io engine is "stern drive"
Right on, nice! Thanks
Why not subtiles in french
Are some of my other videos available in French? Have never had this question
Brooo do some tricks
Thanks for watching and for the request but was just keeping this one informative. Will keep that in mind for the future edits though
