My in-laws are in town, my partner has to go run a three hour errand that genuinely could not be avoided, and the newborn is screaming every time I sit down to rest.

Love the pouf! I need to make one of those, I think my doggo would love it! :D I just got back from the Rainbow Readers Cruise, where forty or so authors and narrators got to pal around with a bunch of our readers. We did panels and a signing at sea which was terrific! We even had a drag show, which was hysterically funny - let me tell you, audiobook narrators are fun people. :D They also did readings of some super sketchy fanfic (Bert and Ernie, I kid you not) and we are all traumatized now.

I've got a foot stool, a friend was throwing it out because it was ugly fabric, another friend was replacing her sofa that was broken, so I had the fabric from the back, so I have a nicely upholstered foot stool and they both want the stool 😂, not happening. I love the idea of making shells to use for storage!! I've got blankets and other off season bedding that I never quite know what to do with. I"m thinking I will make a few zippered pouches (if not actual poufs) for seasonal linen closet storage. Another thing I struggle with is keeping the sheet sets I use bundled together so I have a fitted sheet, top sheet and pillowcases that coordinate. Something like this would make a great storage pouch.
The best bit to me, though, is that the pattern pieces are straightforward enough that you could easily make patchwork yardage from scrap fabric, cut out the pattern pieces and then assemble the pouf.

    • @cheekyb71

Awesome poof! Top tip, if you sew the piping to the side edges instead of the circle, and do a long stitch twice around the circle, you can easily ease the circle in to match the side sections and it will work better.

These used to be hugely popular and then disappeared and I don't know why - they're fab and, like you said, a great way to store things. 300 throws for the sofa, chuck em in a pouffe! That said, I probably wont be making one. As much as they look brilliant, I'm actively in minimising mode (reducing 300 throws to 1 negates the need for the pouffe). Decided to be brave and heading to university soon as a mature student at the grand young age of 49 - going to get the degree I was going to get when I left school many MANY years ago before deciding i liked earning money more than studying.

I'm on the struggle bus this summer. My mom is an 81 year old T1D with plural effusions and CHF.
She had a medical crisis in June. It was pretty shocking and I'm not getting to spend as much time in my garden and I'd hoped, but what survived my neglect is doing great! 😅
I have a bunch of baby cucumbers! (Have you seen baby cucumbers? THEY'RE SO CUTE!)
I'm trying to get my feet under me but caregiving is brutally hard, even when I've chosen it.

He and a bunch of his friends do a themed group costume every year, and this year it was DC Comics villains. July did a doozy on me, mental health wise, so August has been very much about taking it easy. Sewing is part of that! Got sucked into hexagons (thanks, Shannon) and was really enjoying the handsewing for that, so decided to pick up the unfinished linen shift that has been laying about guilt-tripping me everytime I looked at it, and finished that in one evening of sewing along to Star Wars VI (it works, don't ask why, but it does). Yesterday cut out the bits to start a new petticoat. Got half the placket sewed yesterday and the seam up the back to the point where the placket goes in all done! Feeling a bit more accomplished and better, headspacewise. Our summer (UK) has been hmmm. apart from a few days here and there, relatively cool compared to recent years. I like it that way (I'm like you, dislike heat/heavy sun) but people around me haven't been too happy. A month or so and it'll all be over - proper autumn begins around the end of September here, if not before (we're already seeing blackberries). Glad you're on the mend, even if that mend is slow, some progress is better than none! x

I’m still getting over my second Covid infection back in July. It’s kind of set me back in terms of long Covid and fatigue and symptoms I thought were gone… Still apparently being a bit of a long Covid advocate bad*$$ and was interviewed on national radio in Scotland this afternoon. But I have managed to finish knitting a slipover vest, finish my macgyvered knickerbockers and also sew up a chambray shorter leg jumpsuit - and although I still have to tweak and finesse the pattern, I’m pretty pleased with it AND it can be made with most kinds of fabric and has a ZIP closure, which is epic for the disabled me.
Planning on locating an old circle skirt and recutting the fabric into a different style, plus making a working mock-up to my size of that Butterick costume waistcoat, but with a few changes. I might even get around to finishing the fan lacing on my regency midi stays I made a few years back.
Kind of trying to look into planning a history bounding kind of wardrobe, with pieces from across history that I can wear now, so I’m also keen to make up my 18th century/regency man’s shirt in the most awesome patterned polycotton and my new PJ pants in marvel fabric.

So when i made my quilt and some of ths blocks didn’t line up perfectly, i asked myself- does it still function as a quilt? The answer was a resounding yes! And I moved on. The quilt police still haven’t come for me and i bet the pouf police aren't ever going to come for you! My summer kind of sucked b/c I've been battling gut issues and well, it sucks. Been listening to the Blood and Ash series and it is exactly what i want it to be. The go to 8n our housecright now for "lots of episodes" has been Criminal Minds. It also is exactly what we expect it tobe 😂 glad you are feeling better-ish and your pouf looks amazing (ive heard people comment that they are SUPER heavy when fully stuffed)

Love the puff! I have a few that I purchased at Pennsic and filled with my polar fleece cabbage over the last few years. You’ve inspired me to have a go at making one (or several) for myself. Another project added to my “do after RennFest” list, lol. Thanks for the video!

I haven't really done any sewing since my retreat at the end of June, but it's starting to get cooler now, so I'm hoping it'll be okay to be in my sewing room. Very glad you're doing better. That's wonderful. The poof is also really neat. I might make one eventually. My cabbage patch kinda had to be gotten rid of due to things and the difficulty in going through it to clean it. I would probably use it to store my winter comforter (I'm a thin-blodded Arizonan, so I get cold easily) during the 9 months it's too warm for it.
I should be able to start crafting soon. I want to wait until the end of the month, at least, before I even try to give my wrists the time they need to recover (full healing takes about 6 months). I'm going to start with knitting then move onto crochet. Sewing will have to wait a bit as my machine needs servicing.
I read Witch of Wild Things. It was a sweet romantic and family second chance at love story, but I'm glad I got Vera Wong for the summer reading book as I don't see myself going back to it often, if at all. I'm glad to have read it and if it sounds like your thing, go for it. It just doesn't quite hit in the sweet spot for me. I picked up Everyone Knows Your Mother Is a Witch by Rivka Galchen from the library. It's about Johannes Kepler's mother, who was charged with witchcraft (true story), so historical fiction, which is sometimes my jam, especially the more factually based fictions, so I'm hopeful.
For shows that have a million episodes: M*A*S*H, Star Trek (all of them), Doctor Who....Psych....most soap operas ^^ Buggs Bunny, The Simpsons, This Old House....MST3K, Columbo, Power Rangers....Futurama....Law & Order (dun dun)....pick your flavor ^^

To the end! With all those seams, it makes me think of my mom's old industrial REX sewing machine; she had an upholstery shop when I was little.
I've been working on some cross stitch as well as Scroop's newest dress pattern. I had to order another yard of fabric because I forgot about the bias binding. 🤣 But otherwise it's been working out well.
I've been trying to pick up more books to own as my book stash is really lacking (and to replace the ones that drowned when my window AC unit turned into a waterfall one day). I have to pace myself though because books are expensive, especially ones that are out of print. 😅

I really enjoyed the video, love that you can use up your scraps this way, and that you have access to the scraps in case there was some little piece that you realize you could’ve used for something else. Great way to get rid of old socks. I have a hard time throwing away old towels that could be used for rags, so again this could be a way to use them and still have access if I decide I need one. Cool! Sorry to hear you’ve been sick; this is the first time I’ve seen one of your videos, so I don’t know how serious it was, but hopefully you are on the mend. I had finished 9 books and then took a lengthy break. On book 11 now. Not watching anything in particular but am trying to finish a project to fix cat damage to the couch. @@Costuming_Drama one is red and the other is orange. I used a Moroccan table that I found at a consignment shop to create my living room. I was loading the legs of the brass table and saw that it was painted wood. After scraping a bit off, I found that it had mother-of-pearl flowers glued into the wood!!! I can't find anyone who is willing to refinish the legs to get the paint off as they are frightened that they will damage the mother of pearl. We think that the wood may have also been brightly painted and whomever owned it before probably thought it was too garish and painted the legs black.
