    As one of the very few real black combative teachers in America, I have always said that karate is my base even when I do not use every technique taught in the style. Goju-Ryu (Okinawan) is one of the styles that is most useful in real life violent situations. I am extremely proud of the work being done here by these brothers. Long before the combative "movement" started talking about their value, gouges, pulling, eye strikes and so on were being done in this TRADITIONAL art. Sayf Carman

      I appreciate what you have to say, but dude, race has nothing to do with it and it should stay out. I'm a red-skinned Native American - am I special?
      The art and training is far more important than your complexion.
      I meant no offense.

      Uncle Butterworth SweetNSalty is right. Budo has nothing to do with race. As a human biology major in California State University it is my advice to loose the Race Card fast. I see that you have some famous Karateka's as your favorites. One of those you have as a video listed this is what real Karate is like ~ Is my teacher and his name is Morio Higaonna Sensei. Trust me loose the Race Card for Race in martial arts has no place and can cloud the mind for training. I am too a Native American Indian that is Cheerokee Indian still yet I rarely let people know it for many reasons. One being my great great grandfather was killed by the Comanche Indians in 1869. That is one of the many reasons that you can learn from. Just as the black man was captured and enslaved by different African tribes around him only to be sold off to different countries around the world. When it comes to Dangerous Martial Arts training race should never be apart of it. My own teacher Rickson Gracie never called it Brazilian Jiu Jitsu it was called Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Again the race card has no place in M.A.

      I have friends that are Kyokushin kai as well. Sensei Juichi Oyama, Sensei Kurosawa ( who passed away about a little over a year ago ) , Shihan Bobby Lowe ( who is also passed ~ R.I.P. ), Sensei Fred Buck ( who is Sensei Donald Buck Sr. Son. Sensei Donald Buck was one of Sosai Mas Oyama who was the founder of Kyokushin kai first American foriegn student back in the day behind Shihan Bobby Lowe) I am a student of Sensei Morio Higaonna IOGKF. I trained with many karate cross trained Teruo Chinen Sensei, Juichi Kokubo Sensei, Kazuo Terauchi Sensei, & Gosei Yamaguchi Sensei. My two main teachers are Rodney Hu Sr. & Sensei Morio Higaonna. I came up under Sensei Fumio Demura Shito ryu Karate organization under Dr Steve Rose until I was 15 years old then started training with the Goju-kai karate Gogen Yamaguchi Hanshi organization. My teacher was a member of the 1st World Karate Championships in which Sosai Mas Oyama was part of those karateka's who developed the tournament along side of Gogen Yamaguchi Hanshi and many others. The tournament was held in Tokyo Japan November 1970. Many master level teachers demonstrated at that tournament including Eiichi Miyazato Sensei, Inuoe Sensei, Teruo Hayashi Sensei, Morio Higaonna Sensei, and Gogen Yamaguchi Hanshi.

    Once again great job of demonstrating the art of budo. I think Sensei Chinen would be proud of you all. By the way, I did the master demonstration with Sensei Chinen and his students ( as part of the group effort) in Las Vegas, Nevada back in 1987. I was honored that Sensei Chinen ask me to do the demo with his Jundokan Karateka's. 🤙

    Thank you for your excellent demonstration. I'm very impressed. Although I'm an aging iconoclast at 72 having found my own "way" regarding martial arts (and other rigid traditions and established institutions of crystallized belief) ... I still admire many aspects of traditional Japanese martial arts such as you've impressively demonstrated. Also, it pleases me that you appear to be an excellent father to whom appears to be your disciplined son following your good example. It's a father's dream to have one or more sons to follow in his footsteps or better. :)

    Why do you put your hand on your hip when attacking with a punch? It doesn't really make sense to leave one side of your body totally unguarded. If you wouldn't fight that way, why is it in the training at black belt level? I've heard the kyu ranks use it to teach proper shoulder/back muscle movement for extra punching power and snap but at the higher levels I can't see a use for practicing attacking with a punch and one hand on your hip. I'm not trying to criticize, I'd really appreciate an answer because this has always frustrated me. I'm editing this cause I forgot to add that I really appreciate the power and control you guys have and that you did a great job showing these techniques.

    • @gojukobukan
      @gojukobukan  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you very much for watching ! In my experience over the years, I have learned that we should not get so caught up on where the hands are but what state of mind we are in. We practice may hand positions. For example, if I was walking down the street(my hands would not be up) and suddenly attacked, my hands still have to come up from a lower position. Basically its more about being aware of our surroundings. I have met people who lost use of their arms and were very good fighters. If you are a budo practitioner, good luck with your training.

  • @kbanghart

    Pretty cool. I noticed the weight distribution of the attacker, some of it on his front foot, so you knew he wasn't going to strike with that without shifting his weight.

    Rehearsed movements and routines are not practical. This is a waste. Fighting is dynamic and fast and ugly. Boxing and Muay Thai and Kyokushin are more practical b/c it allows a person to understand hitting and being hit; and one really understands that doing the hitting can hurt just as much being hit.

      Don't judge what they are doing by this video. This is not the only way they train. I guarantee when they spar it does not look like this. When they do train for self defense it is all about reaction time and repetition and muscle memory.

    • @Ash26Ken13
      @Ash26Ken13 5 лет назад

      @@foxybrown2 - I do understand your point it's just that on the street nobody punches nor kicks that way; so why waste time doing one step sparring when said method is not practical to a real world situation. I've been in a few tussles in my time and the display on the video will never work when fighting a guy who has the intent to bite, scratch and gouge out your eye balls. BTW, I'm retired Army and taught this tenet; if you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck. Train as you fight is more practical in my opinion. Your moniker is very cool by the way : )
